Strazhite Hotel

The hotel itself was fine . The rooms spacious and well maintained. but the food left a lot to be desired. Cold and uninteresting about sums it up. The fact that the hotel hosts a disco on Saturday nights which start at 11 and go on to 3 is not good for people who aim to walk or ski next day. Also the fact that we were told to have our evening meals at the Pirin hotel on both Saturdays to accommodate the Disco. The level of customer care was a negative feature as there was a definite language barrier between staff and customers.

The Strazhite hotel is a very pleasant, clean and well appointed hotel which is lets itself down in number of key respects. The most serious deficiency is the variable standard or lack of training of staff closely followed by an inability to serve hot food. Apart from one notable receptionist the attitude of the reception staff was exclusively one of disinterest, a profound inability to provide information or advice and a preference for sttiing in the back office chatting with the absent bar staff and watching television. Chose this over the Kempinski because it cost less than half the price and looked just as nice and a lot less 'stuffy'. A clean, comfortable, bright double room with a large balcony overlooking the garden courtyard (with a free range tortoise and fantail doves) was less than 100 leva (about £33), including the very ample breakfast. Good points about this hotel are.... Clean, good location, rooms were excellent size and good snowbaord/ski equipment storing facilites. Bad points.... I had knickers taken from my room, a friend had his phone stolen and my sister had some sweets and bicuits taken. When we reported this, the lady at reception was very rude and wouldnt do anything about this. The hotel was huge!!! I got lost all the time trying to get to my room and out of the hotel, needs more signs. And we had to pull our luggage up so many stairs as the lifts only... more

I have just come back from a weeks skiing in Bansko, we stayed at the Strazhite and we were pleasantly suprised. The rooms were spotless, beds comfy, we had a great view of the mountian (if you ignored the builiding site!!) and were a 10 minute walk from the gondola station. The down site was the food, we ate dinner once and ate out for the rest of the week. But it was so cheap in the local restuarants, (called mexhanas) we didnt mind. We chose the Strazhite because the Kempinski was fully booked and this seemed the nearest 4* hotel to the gondola. However what a difference one star makes. We arrived very late at night but even though we were a large 'expected' party there was no possibility of food. we were only offered crisps from the bar or the mini bar in the room. There is a lift to all floors but we still had to lug our cases up lots of steps to get to the lift and then down lots again when we got to our floor. If you are booking the Strazhite (or like us were cancelled from another hotel due to a double booking, in our case the Tamplier Apartments) then have no fear. Other than the Kempinsky Grand Arena (5*) this is probably the best hotel you will find in Bansko. First the good bits: v well located and easily walkable to the Gondola (5-10 mins), though they do offer a shuttle service, every half hour (Top tips: this runs from the side of the hotel, not the front. We have just come back from visiting Bansko and we stayed in the Strahite Hotel. It was really nice and very clean. Its four stars are well earnt. There was a restaurante called the Steak House which was beautiful and excellent value for money, five of us ate three of which had steak, 2 drinks each and desserts all round and it came to 125.00 lev which worked out approximatley £8.00 each. My family & I stayed at the Strazhite Hotel in Bansko in February this year. I feel I should write a review as I have yet to see one on this superb hotel. What can I say? The location of the hotel is great, just 100m (if that) from the gondola station and the same again to the bars and shops. A free shuttle service runs daily from the hotel to the gondola (saves ya carrying ya ski's/boards) and brings you back to the hotel after a great day on the slopes.
