The hotel rooms are very nice, no problem at all. The air-con was useless, Told reception 3 times that it wasn`t working, only the fan, and not the cold air, reception said they would have a look at it but it was always the same no cold air, Then had a word with the thomas cook rep and that night it came on, we did not have to sleep with the balcony doors open all night, but that was for only one night out of 14!! it went off after that and never came back on, they just didn`t want to know.If you go all inclusive you still have to pay for your drinks with your evening meal but you get them half price and thats the local beer as well only thing you dont pay for is water, but other guests do pay for water. Now lets go to the food, If you like your food just warm thats the meat and the veg, fine. it was never anything but warm and the meat was always cheap cuts ie, liver, chicken nuggets, ox tail, sausages, the chicken was ok though but even that was only warm.... Had a word with the rep and she said she had a lot of complants about the quality of the food. the pool was very small for the size of the hotel and there was never enough sunbeds. if you stay at this hotel i hope you have a better time than i did...... My wife and i will not be going back there.

Just returned back from a weeks all inclusive stay at Hotel Hamilton, Mahon. The holiday overall was great and would give that 9/ 10, but the review is for the hotel and so give it 3/ 10
AGAINST:
POOL - Unable to get a seat by the pool as they were RESERVED with towels, before 7:00 EVERY morning. It was also TINY and only benefitted from the sun after 11:30.
FOOD - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner very repetative. Always cold!! Come day 4 i couldnt eat in the hotel anymore, and resorted to PAYING for food in the local restaurants.
ROOMS - On arrival we had to pay EXTRA for a see view room, even though we had paid for it and produced the receipt from the tour operator. Be warned, we werent the only people this had happened too, and the only way to get the room was pay an additional 5 euros per person. The rooms are VERY tired, and in desperate need of modernization. NO FRIDGE, NO HAIRDRYERS and towels changed every other day.
DRINKS - BE WARNED!!! The All inclusive drinks lack alchohol. If you want to a PROPER Drink you will need to BUY the proper wine/ spirits.
BEACH - The nearest beach is a 45 minute bus ride away and NOT 800 meters as the brochures say.
FOR:
Location is fantastic. The local harbour is an idilic place to eat, drink or just sit and watch the world go by. The locals are really friendly, and there was no pressure to buy when visiting the shops. The WHOLE of the area is extremely clean, even the local bins are emptyed daily.
The sea view rooms are clean, tidy and have great views, but these do come at an additional premium!!
The local bus stop was approx 500 metres away, (Up Hill), but the buses were on-time, cheap (1.55 euros one way to Mahon) and air conditioned.
Mahon is a great place to shop or browse, and the Port, with the Cruisers and Ships is a must to visit. You can catch the water taxi (The Glass Bottomed Boat) for 5 euros per person, that will take you to the local harbour, only 200 metres from the hotel. A must do as the views are breath taking.
Our REP was great. Always at the hotel on time every day. He was very friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble for him.
We will DEFINETLEY be going back to Menorca, even Es Castell, but not this hotel. It is not a EUROPEAN 3 star, i would only give it 2 Stars.

We went all inclusive and couldn't have wished for better. The food was excellent with so much choice it was difficult to decide what to have. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean.I still think about relaxing and having a coffee on that wonderful terrace watching the ships coming in and out from Mahon.Es Castell is a quiet place so I would not recommend it if you want a noisy nightclub type of holiday.
- Advice: A lovely place to relax.

We were a bit wary about this having read varying reviews but could find no fault whatsover with any aspect of this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was plentiful and with way too much choice. So much choice that we ended up eating far more than was good for us! There was something for everyone and you could eat as healthily (or otherwise) as you liked. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean too. Our only real complaint was lack of coat hangers in the wardrobes. This hotel provided fanastic value for money and, should we return to Menorca, would definitely return

I have just returned from a week at the Barcelo Hamilton Es Castille. My partner and 10 month old son were looking forward to the break. The hotel is small some 160 rooms. The rooms are dated, the beds uncomfortable, these were twin beds which were more camp beds. The cot was good quality, stable and clean. The room was clean but the decor needed updating. The door was broken as if it had been forced open at some stage then a bodge repair done. The staff were friendly even with alot of spanish in the hotel. We were not expecting the Ritz,I have been to Barcelo hotels before and they were of a very high standard. The food,I have never eaten so much salad in all my life. The menu consisted of Hake one day then every day after there was the same but each time with a different sauce,we also had Pigs Trotters and Tripe. The hotel would be ok for the older clientele, but even some SAGA holidaymakers were not impressed. For famililys it would be the wrong hotel and resort, for older people its a possibility.

We were unable to book a sea/harbour view with our travel company, and were advised we would be able to upgrade when we arrived, however we would not pay the 8 euros per night they were charging, so stayed in our room overlooking the tiny swimming pool.
The air conditioning was poor to say the least, and on our last night, it was actually blowing out warm air on an extremely hot night.
The food was ok, if you liked to eat the same menu ( with a few changes) for every meal, it was also warm not hot.
There was a severe shortage of staff in every department. The bar had only one person serving for the majority of the time, and the head barman didn't know how to smile. ( the rest of the bar staff were lovely)
The bar area was clean, however the outside area of the bar was dirty, tables not cleared away and the floor and viewing windows were filthy.
The reception staff were quite helpful, however after a bad storm when the hotel leaked like a seive, I overheard a lady saying they were in a damp bedroom, and she was advised there were no other rooms available, so she had no choice but to sleep in a damp bed.
The pool area was far too small, with not enough sunbeds. This was surrounded by high walls on all sides, so was impossible to get the sun all day wherever you went.
We will be returning to Menorca as we love the island, but wont be visiting this hotel again.

Just returned from a week at the barcelo having read a few negative comments before holiday so was a little unsure but turned out to be a fabulous holiday. The all inclusive basis was great, lots of Spanish traditional dishes, have sampled all sorts of fish including shark. Buffets for all meals were gorgeous, so much food. wine served was by the bottle. Children catered for within the variety of dishes. Rooms cleaned daily and thorougly, staff friendly, views from our room over the harbour were lovely. Short walk to local restaurants and gift shops if needed. Pool clean not huge but also has a jacuzzi. Breakfast terrace to watch the terrapins swimming in their pool, however some prefered the main pool early in the morning! Was my birthday there and found a complimentary bottle of cava in an ice bucket in the evening! Brilliant transfer from Mahon airport, takes only 15mins. Great view of cruise ships passing along the harbour, value for money? by day four I spent all of 40 euros in total (on jewellery). Great time for families and couples or those travelling alone, though not for the young and wild going by the evening entertainment!! 10/10

Not enough staff in dining room, when busy they ran out of cups and glasses. Good food, but they could do with more variation. Hard to get a table when full.
Generally clean. Wet mattresses on sunloungers which are left out in the rain. No hairdryers in room or fridge. No poolside service. No help with luggage (I'm in a wheelchair). 1/2 mile to bus stop for any trips.
Be warned you will be charged on arrival for a sea view.

After reading reviews of this hotel I had some fears about going. No need to worry as the hotel was wonderful.
I read that the food was ok if you liked fish and not meat, all I can say is that every day there was a choice of 4 meat and fish dishes. Also they had a chef cooking fresh meat and fish in front of you. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the rooms are of a good standard.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Having read hotels report on web and stayed at a Barceló hotel before thought I could expect about the same standards as others.
How wrong can you be, Staff were very lacking to say he least. There was no bar service apart from one bar man, Waiters! No cleaners for that’s all they did, not service of what you would normally get at a Barceló of same star rating. Pool to small for the amount of guests. Lack of sun beds approx 50 not all with mattresses. No poolside service, No pool towels, no hair dryers in rooms, not all rooms have sea view /pool view or any kind a view. Hotel in need of urgent refurb.
Locals take over bar Fri-Sunday and make impossible for you to get seats in bar to se entertainment, FOOD poor on a good day. Local area ok.. Food in tapas good which is just as well.

THIS is NOT a 3STAR hotel. Food very poor standard always cold. At breakfast you would have left over veg and potatoes. Very repatative meals. Had to pay 150 euros to have a sea veiw. Rooms very clean but no kettle, hair dryer. Pool to small only 50 sunbeds, and they where always taken by the SELFISH TOWEL night fairys. Never never again, would we stay at that hotel. Glad we where not all inclusive, half board was bad enough. They could do with a visit from the hotel inspector. And if you like air con then take you own fan theirs is crap complained 5 times, ended up having to sleep with door open, and getting eaten alive. The only ones that get 10/10 are the chamber maids
