The Plus and Minuses of Le Riad Monceau
Traveling 30+ hours, we arrived at Le Riad Monceau (LRM) to discover that there was no record of our reservation despite confirmation in hand. We walked around the Souks while new arrangements were being made. This was not how I planned to spend my first day in Morocco. Riad owner, Isabelle Aubry, did not approach me until departure to offer a half-hearted apology. LRM has many elements to recommend including proximity to the souks and other important sights, a serene patio and attentive wait staff and an extraordinary culinary staff!... more
Management response from RM-management

Regarding the lost reservation We confirm this point and apologize for the inconvenience - These guests were one of the very first users of our brand new online booking system and - unfortunately - their reservation never reached the hotel .. It was really a shame (and we really worried about that) but, as said in the review : 1/ we arranged a complementary 2 night stay in an other riad (Riad El Mansour) which is of same category and even more expensive than Riad Monceau ; 2/ we offered the guests a free upgrade in our Pacha Suite for 1 night ; 3/ we offered the guests a free dinner in our restaurant ... We are a very small house and we always do our best to satisfy our guests ; we really had the feeling that in this occasion we did what we were supposed to do and that - at the end - these guests had not much to complain about ...? It seems we were wrong. Regarding the “ant problem” As said in a previous review, due to its good reputation Le Riad Monceau hosts more and more people that use to stay in Hyatt, Meridien, Sheraton or other top class international hotels .. Of course it is an honour for us to be compared to such hotels but on the other hand, in some cases, it can be a problem too : one must understand that whatever are its qualities, a 7 room 18th century riad hidden in a small street of the Marrakech medina cannot be compared to such hotels .. There is no doubt on the fact that Le Riad Monceau is one of the cleanest places in town (we are proud to have 50 or 60 reviews which confirm that point on this website) BUT we must admit that, for sure, it can happen that an ant or two take a walk in your room or bathroom … just because, well,... THIS IS THE MARRAKECH MEDINA. This as nothing to do with hygiene or cleanliness. Some people understand - and they usually love places like ours - and some others don't ...and in that case whatever are the efforts we can do, there is a chance that these people do not have a good time while staying with us ... There is not much we can do to avoid it.

Riad Monceau
The Riad is conveniently located and some of the staff very pleasant. The courtyard of the Riad is lovely and a nice public space to relax or dine in. Our room was good but our shower did not drain and we had a bit of an ant problem. Noise was also an issue - doors and steps echo and there were a few nights where people in the courtyard wined and dined quite late and made it difficult to sleep. Unlike others, I did not find the decor of our room to be amazing, but it was well kept and clean. There were 2 staff members who were outstanding,... more
Bravo
Had a long weekend here to celebrate a birthday. The hotel, food and particularly the staff were absoloutely amazing. In a vibrant city like Marrakesh this place was an oasis of peace. Would definitely come back.
Special Occasion for 30th Birthday
Date 6th March 2008 for 4 nights Six months ago we started searching for a riad for 14 persons. Viewed approx. 150. My daughter (the birthday girl) requested traditional style, good location, excellent accomadation and food, roof terrace and swimming pool. Riad Monceau ticked all the right boxes and was perfect for all of us. The staff were exceptional and organised transfers and all neccessary transport for outside events, laying on a small band and a belly dancer for the big day. They recommended other restaurants for lunch or dinner... more
A gem
Just got back from 12 days in Maroc, including 4 at this delightful riad. The staff are absolutely the tops (Kaltoum especially, her English is flawless) and the location cannot be bettered. Look no further.
We fell in love with Marrakech at the Monceau
After staying in four separate riads in Marrakech, we found the best--Riad Monceau. Close to the Medina in the old city, the Monceau is a luxurious choice, at a reasonable rate. We consistently had exquisite meals there, the tagine and traditional foods were cooked perfectly. (Reserve in advance for meals-same day is fine). This riad is not only beautifully refinished, but the staff is professional, warm, and helpful, and surprisingly good at reading your mind. The rooms are inviting, the linens soft, and the bathrooms modern—each room is... more
Fantastic - Fantastic - Fantastic!
After a very lengthy search of riads in Marrakesh, we decided on Riad Monceau. We couldn't have made a better choice. The rooms (we stayed in 3) were all fantastic. If you can, book the Pasha Suite. it is beautiful. The staff made a fire for us in the fireplace (which burned all night and we woke up to lovely coals), and the huge jaccuzzi is incredible - they put candles all around it and rose petals...(see pics attached). Not only were the rooms fantastic (and clean), but the staff was extremely helpful and professional,... more
A great experience
This hotel is truly excellent. The Pacha suite was large and had its own fireplace as well as a fantastic bathroom with private jacuzzi. The food here is excellent and cheaper than at most moroccan restaurants in town. Can recommend the moroccan wines (fantastic Bonassia). Large fresh salads for lunch. Service was of the highest standard. Very friendly and helpful staff. All in all a great experience - a good place to relax and within a few seconds walk from the main square.
Pleasant Oasis in very close proximety to market square
I booked this hotel on the basis of other reviews on this site and was not disapointed. The staff - although not being able to speak a lot of English, were extremely helpful and gave excellent recommendations for food etc. My only critisism was that the service at dinner could have been more prompt - but this is could just us Brits being used to the USA fast food way of life.
A gem in the Souk: Magnifique!
What a gem! The RIAD MONCEAU is a discovery and a half. The architecture is so refined, the craftwork so well-etched and the food so delicious. Do book in advance to eat in the elegantly restored, tiny dining- room. Turn right and the main square, the DJEMA EL FNA, is but two-minutes-walk away but the silence at night in the riad uncanny. Elias Canetti wrote, in THE VOICES OF MARRAKESH [1967], 'In order to feel at home in a strange city you need a secluded room' [p.31]. So insightful. Our stay was an unqualified success and... more
