Maya Caribe Cancun Hotel

We had confirmed and prepaid reservations over one month in advance. Upon arrival, we were informed the Hotel had no availabe rooms. 2 & 1/2 hours later we were sent to the Holiday Inn Express in Pok de Pok, which is not on the Ocean. We were told we would stay in the Holiday express for two days & have a room in the Maya Caribe on the third day. These guys are scammers. They overbook and then stick you in a -------- hotel. It happened to everyone there and good luck finding a key that works. Go somewhere else...they own Dos Playa too and they just overbook so that they can stuff you in the other hotels they own.

I don't know how the hotel was...we had confirmed and prepaid reservations but they overbooked and so they put us up in another hotel that was not on the beach. We also talked to several other tourists that been displaced by the Maya Caribe, so it seems this is a common practice for them. They also own the Dos Playas next door.

My husband and I and another couple vacationed at the Maya Caribe at the end of May, 2004. I had read so many "bad" reviews that I was "scared to death" about staying at this place. When we arrived, my thoughts were "well, so far not bad". The staff in the office were very pleasant. We went to our rooms which were located close together. Both had excellent views of the ocean. We were not happy from the moment we walked into the hotel lobby.(ran down) The room was not what was offered,(no ocean view). The room had holes in the wall, planks coming out the ceiling, soap scum visable on the shower walls,room unsecure, lock box barely hanginon the wall, water for showering turned off during shower. We stayed one day. This is Mexico, and having to pass all other hotels on the strip,and to arrive at this dilapidated hotel was the pits. I don’t know who wrote the negative reviews about the Maya-Caribe. They must work for a rival hotel or just like to complain. I just returned from there after spending a week and I must say the stay there was wonderful. Everyday the towels were arranged in a different design, for example: Sunday was a Swan, Tuesday and Wednesday were baskets with fresh flowers tucked in the creases and Thursday was a Peacock. We went to the Maya Caribe back in June. It was a free trip we had won and it was all inclusive. Six days five nights. After reading the reviews from this site I was bracing myself for the worst. As soon as we arrived the staff was excellent- very nice and willing to help you in any way they can. The scenery at the Maya Caribe was beautiful- very private. I just returned from Cancun and truly enjoyed my vacation but the hotel had much to be desired. The hotel personnel were extremely helpful and the grounds were beautifully kept. But if you want to use an iron or a wash cloth BEWARE. We were told at check in that the entire hotel had on five irons - that was cool until our second night when we returned to our room and found no towels and no washclothes. The hotel was on a quiet stretch of beach, the staff was great, and the food was good. But, they regularly overbook the hotel and stuff visitors next door at Dos Playas. It happened to us the first night, and to at least three other groups. Not cool. Dos Playas was a smaller room, but it had a king sized bed and the AC worked well. Plus, the food was as good, if not better. But Dos Playas had more of a party atmosphere and was definitely bigger and more crowded. Once we were back to Maya Caribe, we were placed in Bungalow 3.
