La Palmeraie

We were looking my boyfriend and me , a wonderful small hotel in Mauritius to get married and when we saw La Palmeraie Hotel on the web we were extremely fascinated by its architecture and concept it is really different from other hotel we visited on the web. This lovely hotel is populated by middle-age Europeans (mainly French), some younger honeymooners, and a few older British couples. Not many singles or large families. Compared to other locations on the island, this is relatively more quiet and serene. It takes close to an hour to get to Port Louis, so if you have business to do as well on the island it isn't ideal. But I managed. There are a lot of good things about this hotel - welcome, general appearance, very comfortable room with excellent sea view and lovely beach. However there were a few things that didn't quite hit the spot. For example,whilst at times the staff were very attentive, at other times it was difficult to get their attention. Went to Mauritius for 2 weeks in July 2007 flying with emirates and staying at Hotel La Palmeraie on half board basis. After months of looking at various hotels, decided on this one since it looked unusual and the reviews were good. Flew from Manchester to Mauritius via dubai with Emirates. We stayed at this hotel for ten days. The room was full of ants and spiders. When I complained no one came to spray the room, and the manager suggested we brought the insects with us from the beach!. I was bitten by insects all over and when I returned to Norway I had to take anti-biotics for a month. The food is boring and there's not much to do there. The staff is unfriendly and very dishonest. We spent 6 days at La Palmeraie hotel between 8th - 14th July. Thanks to the comments from other reviewers on this site we made the decision to stay there and were not disappointed. The hotel is very well-appointed with a contemporary and stylish Moroccan influence. We had a fantastic sea view from our room which was about 10m from the water's edge. We visited this hotel from 24-29 June 2007. Upon arrival at the hotel the receptionist welcomed us in a very friendly manner and smilingly joked that we brought the wind with us from South Africa. How true this was we only learned the following couple of days - the wind was extreme and we could only visit the hotel's beach on our last day when it subsided. The hotel is built in arabic style as in a fairytale, very clean with a very friendly staff . There were just enough rooms ( 60) . During our stay there were not too many tourists which gave us a great feeling of freedom with a verry personal service from the staff. The only thing we missed in our room was a bath . The hotel is charming: small, located on a cute little beach, nicely decorated. The staff is really friendly and helpful, especially at the restaurants and nautical centre; and the food buffets were amazing (wasn't impressed by the set dinner on some nights). The hotel has a very romantic feel but still there were families with children. We recently stayed 4 nights at La Palmeraie, and consider it to be one of the best hotel experiences we have ever enjoyed. The hotel is small (60 rooms) and very new. The architecture and interior design is very nice. The hotel is located on a very nice beach, on a lovely lagoon with decent snorkelling. Most importantly, we were treated extremely well by the friendly and accommodating staff and management. Food preparation and service was very good. We would highly recommend this hotel.
