Pathetic service and really not a great experience
We had an aweful experience with Apavou. Was booked into La Plantation after being promised and amazing experience by our Travel Agent. When we got there the hotel was still being renovated with no warm water and the toitlet not working. The bath water smelled like sewage and there was obviously a problem with the water sanitation. We were then transfered, after much trouble, to the cheaper Ambre. Ambre is at best a 3star hotel. Although the beaches are beautiful everything else was poor. the waiters are not trained, food is budget and... more
Great Service
This was our first time in Mauritius and although we found the island slightly disappointing we loved the Ambre. We took the all-inclusive option as there is little or no alternative in the vicinity. The main restaurant was ok but the others (albeit some had supplements to add) were excellent. The room was large with great views and the maids were superb. The service in the bars was wonderful and after the first night they knew exactly what we wanted for pre-dinner drinks. The setting on the beach was great, ideal for long... more
NIce hotel and experience but nothing exceptional.
I stayed for 5 nights and although I had a great time and Mauritius as a destination is amazing the hotel just didn't excite me in any way. When you arrive the hotel has real WOW factor with security opening the gates so you can enter the courtyard, which leads into the open reception area with fountain and views through the bar onto the pool, beach and ocean. You are then given a welcome drink and welcomed by the hotel staff. I had asked for early check in and the hotel did make this available for me but they do have a transfer room... more
Heavenly Ambre
From the moment we arrived at the Hotel Ambre we were treated as if we were priviledged guests with VIP status. All the staff were totally helpful, friendly and courteous. Our room was large and well appointed, the air conditioning was efficient and not noisy, and we had views straight onto the beach, the chamber maid deserved an award for artistic presentation with her towel sculputres!!! Although we didn't have a balcony the layout of the hotel was such that we did not miss it. The food was first class and we were able to eat... more
Good location and comfortable hotel
We stayed here for 11 nights in September on an all inclusive basis. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday and the hotel met our requirements but a few points might be helpful. The room was very spacious and the cleaning was of a good standard. We paid the supplement for a sea view and were first given a room in the 600 block which mostly had a view of a very high wall . We demanded a change and moved a few hours later. Note that others were given rooms without proper balconies just french doors opening into the room. Service... more
Location wonderful, food good, rooms large and clean.
We were quite happy with the Ambre apart from the fact that our all inclusive finished at 12 mid day. We didn't leave the hotel until 7.30pm. The hotel wanted to charge us £13 each for lunch despite the fact that we had missed lunch on 3 days with trips and had eaten in the restaraunts on 3 nights paying suppliments. We felt this was petty and left us with a bad feeling at the end of our holiday. Those of you who think you will eat at Mauirius airport, think again! It has a tiny caffeteria with an equally tiny menu. The food was... more
Ambre Hotel - A great place place - a shame about the flights!
We spent 2 weeks in mid November. the hotel was excellent, very clean, good food - particularly the pasta. It is a popular place for Italians - mainly on a 1 week stay. Hence the fact they have some Italian Chefs and pasta of varying types on most days. The beach was good and clean. I found the water a little on the cold side (as we normally go Carribbean). however this is the side of the Island to go, although again at this time of the year the breeze can make it feel a little cold on some days (SE trades?). Because this and many... more
OK if you want a large busy hotel but not if you want a quiet enclave
On our 3rd stay in Mauritius ( having previously been billeted at the Hilton and & Paul et Virginie, both of which we would return to ) I have to say that we were not as impressed with the Ambre as the other places we have stayed. Some people wanting a more lively time in a large hotel & who do not mind a smoky atmosphere would enjoy it more than we did . Perhaps our perspective was clouded by the fact that during our stay Mauritius bore the brunt of a tropical hurricane , when for 4/5 days of our 10 day stay it was not possible to do... more
Honeymoon delight
We booked the Hotel Ambre in October last year for our "all inclusive honeymoon" in May / June 2007. When we first read the reviews, we were optimistic as the reviews sounded encourging but as time get nearer to our honeymoon, the reviews started to get a bit worrying, to the point I actually spoke to Mecury Direct who told us that the Hotel Ambre was their best hotel in Maurtius and if we had any problems to contact them if we were not satisfied with the hotel. After a long flight from Manchester via Dubai, we eventually arrived... more
Didnt want to return Home would easily have stayed another 4-5 days
Like most others here I had read the reports and well after 2hrs to Apris and then 11 hrs to Mauritius and my wives case going missing I was prepared for anything. Its a hour long journey over some strange roads but when you arrive at Ambre you wonder what all the bad things were , its out of season so able to get a sunbed and shade where and when you wanted staff are friendly and could not be more helpful , ok so some things are maybe a wee bit worn but the food was excellent no matter what your tastes and if it wasnt then there must be... more
