The best holiday I have ever been on!!!! This hotel should be rated as a five star as I couldn't fault them on anything. The food was fantastic and really cheap. The staff went out of their way to help and as for the standard of service, it was out of this world. I have... more

I've stayed in quite few hotels owned by the Accor chain. This has to be the worst for drab and lifeless rooms. Although they are spacious (odd numbered rooms are smaller than even numbered rooms, which also has the best views) they are in urgent need of decoration. The... more

We stayed at the Mercure for 1 week on a B & B basis.
I could not fault this hotel at all. All the staff were courteous and helpful.
The pool area is excellent, as is the Italian Restaurant and the room service also.
10 out of 10!

I had the pleasure of staying here in June 2005 and it was the perfect base for the holiday of a lifetime. Not particularly lavish but doing exactly what it says on the tin, the hotel is ideally equipped to cater for all holiday needs. With a fantastic sized pool, several... more

Excellent accommodation, beautiful hotel with amazing lobby area. Nice pool and a large choice of restaurants in the vicinity.
The hotel overlooks the river Nile and is within walking distance to the temple, museum and bazaar. Will be going again next year...fabulous!

Following a weeks Nile Cruise where the staff were so caring and attentive, the Mercure did not live up to the standards of a 4 star hotel, in my opinion. On the cruise towels were changed 3 times a day, and rooms were constantly inspected, yet arriving at the Mercure, the... more

Having stayed here 8 years ago it was with disappointment to find that the Mercure has not improved. There is now a new extension (in which we stayed) and we had the view we wanted, overlooking the Valley of the Kings, however the balconies were small. We could have had a... more

This hotel was absolutely awful. When we arrived there was a huge party going on next door and our room was pounding from the noise. We then found a lizard on the wall and asked to be moved to a different room. This room was on the ground floor and was still unpleasant... more

Good enough
The best with this hotel is its location. Right by the Nile and with a fabolus view over the Nile with the mountains from most of the rooms with Nile view. The breakfast/lunch/dinner resturant shares the same view. The hotel is also close to the main sights on the east bank. The good things about this hotel besides its location is: * There is a good level of service in the hotel with several resturants. * Nice and clean rooms * Friendly staff in the breakfast resturant. * A very good breakfast with a wide selection of food The backside of the hotel is the following: * The rooms are a little worn down and the bed is quite hard. * The resturants are expensive (dinner buffé 125 Egyptian pounds!) * Not so friendly staff in the other areas of the hotel. At the end of it all I would happily stay in this hotel again.
very happy
Happy with all the staff at hotel and the food was very good, the only problem i can think of is it is dark when we got to the airport .had to wait for people to get there visas, which they should of done back in the u,k.
Worst customer serive on the strip
Don't stay here!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were talked into upgrading to a more expensive room then awakened by loud pounding and hammering noises and 7am! I spoke with 2 different employees about this and wasn’t even given an apology, just an explanation saying they were working on the windows. Absolutely unacceptable. The drilling and pounding noises were so loud we couldn’t even talk to each other in the room, let alone try and sleep. I will never stay at Luxor again because of how poorly this situation was handled. Trust me on this one, stay ANYWHERE else!!
Going again
My wife and I visited the Hotel for a weeks holiday in September and found the whole experience faultless-we've already booked to revisit in September of 2008 for 2 weeks. You must pay a visit to an Egyptian guy who goes by the name of Ahmed who helped us with several trips up and down the Nile and to the Valley of the Kings.Ahmed was very informative, helpful and cheaper than the 'reps' regarding excursions. He had a friendly relaxed approach and even invited us for a meal in his home.He can be found directly opposite the Hotel on the river.See photos. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere 'laid back'-entertainment was nightly with a varied mixture of fun and games. The location was ideally situated to all sites of historical interest and the markets. If you see Ahmed sitting on the bench opposite the Hotel, tell him Andy and Julie said Hello.
great time, friendly staff
The rooms werent great but they're not the worst either, the only compaint I would have is the cleaning staff would insist on walking us around our room showing us what a "wonderful job" they did at cleaning it, this got very annoying as it happened a couple of times a day!! Pool staff are really friendly and the food is lovely.
Bad end to a Great holiday
We had been touring for a week from Cairo to Aswan up to Luxor & back to Cairo. We had lovely accommodation in both Cairo & Aswan, so were looking forward to our stay in Luxor. What a disappointment. The room was unclean and smelt of stale cigarette smoke. The beds were made with sheets that had holes in them (this in the country were Egyptian cotton comes from). The shower was not only cold but the water pressure did not exist. The buffet for dinner and breakfast was Ok, although the staff were very pushy and expected tips just for pulling your seat out. Seeing the sites of both the Valley of the Kings & Queens, plus the Luxor temple were truely amazing - too bad the hotel let down the stay
Mercure Hotel
I have just returned from staying at the Mercure Hotel for a short holiday. I must say that the hotel is a friendly place to stay and they seem to have thought of everything from drinks to plasters in the reception. I was impressed with the people working the hotel, covering all jobs from the maintenance to the chefs or the pool attendants. They all work so hard and there seems to be a constant stream of hard work going on. This was watched by me, lazing in the pool which offered games at lunchtime if you felt so inclined or like me, using it as an excuse to sleep on the sunbed. My bed had clean sheets every day and also clean towels. Visited Valley of the Kings but suffered hallucinations in the heat (about 45 deg!) Take plenty of water, a hat and wear sensible walking shoes. Well worth a visit though. Alabasta factory in the valley a little frightening. I find the Arab men over-powering especially with the need to haggle for everything you want to buy. Personally, I would have bought a lot more if there had been less haggling to do. You have to fight for everything you want to buy. I realise that it is their way of life but surely they should not want to drive the tourists away! Only gripe really is that because of this haggling, I found it difficult to leave the hotel just for a walk or to take photos. No shortage of cabs though if you needed one. I personally did not use the cabs that pull up in the street so do not know how safe they are. We were told to make sure of the price before getting in and make sure that the price is per car not per person. Wages are very low in comparison to ours so a tip of £1 is very gratefully received. Luxor generally accepts both English pounds or Egyptian pounds - especially as tips.
Excellent
We stayed at the Mercure Hotel for 7 wonderful nights in July 2007. From the moment we arrived the staff were very helpful, we stayed half board and we ate at the Gorna Restaurant which offered a different menu each evening varying from American, French Italian to an evening by the pool with Egyptian Food and of course local entertainment (Belly dancing). The rooms were adequate for our stay, as we were staying adjacent to the swimming pool, which was ideal for using the pool facilities, as we did not have to traipse through the main area in wet swimming costumes. There is also an entertainment’s manager who looks after all your needs, they have regular Volley Ball, Water Polo and Water Aerobics, and everyone is encouraged to join in. This was our first trip to Egypt, we visited a lot of the local sites, but missed out on a lot of events, we are planning to go back and our first choice hotel would obviously be the Mercure Luxor Hotel.
Absolutely Great
Booked hotel through Air Arabia in UAE. Hotel is excellent for the price paid. If you want five star pay through the nose, hotel may not appeal to you. However, if you are a family of five this place is great. Lovely pool, with recreation leader....who seemed to get the kids and adults going in activities. Breakfast buffet is good. French restaurant and Italian restaurant also good. The general restaurant not as good, as the Chicken Cordon Bleu I ordered was not completely done....got a free dessert though. Service very friendly, even though I tipped modestly. Hotel right across form Nile...two blocks from Museum, and about 4 minute walk to Eygptian bazar and Luxor temple. The tourist guys selling their services outside of hotel a bit pesky, but nothing to do with hotel. Also some great travel advisors, not hired by hotel, but available to help with side trips. Overall a very successful visit.
Fantastic holiday
We stumbled across this holiday whilst seaching for a last minute deal. We were looking to go to Southern Europe, but all we could find was self-catering apartments, and spotted an offer for Mercure, Luxor. With 2 teenagers in tow we decided to give it a try. We had never been to Egypt before, but had heard that it was a beautiful country to visit - full of history. The hotel itself was brilliant, the main restaurant that we mainly dined in provided us with good food with plenty of choice and the service was very friendly. The staff were very accomodating and even organised a special meal with cake for my husbands birthday. The events/entertainment organiser ALI was possibly the main reason why the children enjoyed their stay in the hotel so much. The events included a cocktail making competition with belly dancing, pool competitions and daily pool programmes (water aerobics, volleyball and water polo!). The variety of guests were able to mingle and make friends. The hotel itself was kept incredilby clean and the rooms were cleaned daily & clean towels provided. Poolside was clean & fresh towels provided. Loads of loungers & umbrellas & sun-terrace space available. The only concern is that if you exchange currency it is best to check the individual notes before you leave the desk as the 10 piastas & 10 pound notes look very similar.
