Whitsand Bay Hotel reviews

Had a lovely evening meal at the new bistro at the Whitsand Bay Hotel. Really friendly service, lovely food. Although I don't play golf, the hotel also owns a fantastic golf course which hugs the edge of the coastline and overlooks Whitsand Bay. Highly recommended!

Upsetting
Aftter having visited this hotel numerous times for dinner and also treating family members to dinner here, we were most disappointed with an actual holiday here. We booked the hotel as it was nearby to our wedding reception and wanted to distance ourselves a bit from our guests for a bit of privacy. Due to the fact that we got married on the Saturday we missed the evening meal that night - again as per a previous review on here we were offered no discount or alternative option. From eating here previously a set menu price per head is just... more
A lovely surprise
We have just returned from a superb weekend stay at the Whitsand Bay Hotel and intend to go back again soon. The food was first rate and the staff without exception had a very 'can do' attitude. The atmosphere in the hotel was friendly and efficient and our children enjoyed all the facilities on offer. A brilliant family hotel. The room we had due to late booking was very compact but we were warned of this in advance.
The best hotel I have stayed in for a long time
We have just returned from the Whitsand Bay Hotel, Torpoint, Cornwall where we stayed for a long weekend with our daughter, son-in-law and two small children. We are not golfers, (it is primarily a golfing hotel), but we had a wonderful few days. the food was exceptionally good and the quality of the service was the best I have ever encountered. Everyone made us feel welcome. The children were given lovely, appropriate food, allowed to play with toys belonging to the owner's children and nothing was too much trouble for any of the... more
Perfect setting
My wife and I stayed here at the beginning of June for three nights. The weather was pretty overcast and misty for the majority of the time (not very helpful if you paid the extra for sea views). The hotel is set in a lovely location with good size rooms and a reasonable size swimming pool (the changing rooms could do with an update/enlargement). The food was excellent and could not be faulted and the staff were all generally very friendly and helpful. The only downside was that we were unable to take our evening meal as part of the... more
great views
Delicious food, friendly staff and spectacular sea views (especially as the sun shone the whole two days we were there). It's definitely worth getting a sea view room. Comfortable lounge area. Good sized swimming pool (changing room could do with refurbishing). The whole place has a very relaxed and informal atmosphere. The only negative for me was the extremely hard bed - I spent the first night tossing and turning.
a great place to relax
we spent 2 nights here last week and loved it, the atmosphere was laid back and relaxed with the oak pannelling lending it a hunting lodge feel. Our room and bathroom was freshly decorated with views over the sea. Apart from the location the best thing was the food, from venison carpaccio, duck, monkfish through to the desserts - superb! The golfer had a great time out on the course while I drank coffee in the lounge and had a couple of beauty treatments. If you want to get away, relax, play golf(or not), eat great food -... more
Heavn on earth
Part of me wants to keep this place secret for fear that if too many people know about it I will never get another room. However, the Phillips family deserve better. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They even went to the chemist for me - it being some way away and we had just driven from Essex to get there. We have been going to Whitsand Bay for 15 years but the Phillips family have have improved it no end. The food is top notch, fresh, beautifully cooked and presented with much variety. We played golf and would like to see... more
Loved it
We stayed for the second time at the fabulous Whitsand Bay Hotel and Golf Club and yet again it exceeded our expectations. The rooms are clean, comfortable and of a fair size. The only small complaint is that you must pay extra for a sea view (at a rate per person per night) which we preferred not to spend. The food really sets this place apart - ala carte meals in the restaurant are second to none - a choice of 5 dishes per course and the range was brilliant - we stayed for four nights and I had chicken, cod, guinea fowl and... more
Great family run hotel
a great independently run hotel. The Philips family cannot do enough to please and they seem to have passed this on to all their staff who genuinely seem happy to work there. The food is superb and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend. We have been visiting the Hotel for over 10 Years but the Philips famuily who have owned it for the past 3 have made inumerable imprvements to the Hotel and the Golf course.
Golfing and Pampering
As a party of 10 we have just returned from The Whitsand Bay Hotel at Portwrinkle Cornwall We all had a lovely time and are keen to return. Although we stayed 30 Sept - 2 Oct the weather was glorious, enabling us to stroll along the beach in the sunshine. We would recommend you upgrade to the sea view, the panorama is wonderful and on clear nights, without the light pollution we are used to, the sky appeared to be full of dazzling stars. The hotel concentrates on Golfing parties. Some of our Party played and enjoyed the... more
