More Traveller Reviews of Valentin Star Hotel
Star Attraction
from Famousfive_7
We took a lot of time finding the right place to take our 19 month old daughter on her first real holiday abroad and decided on the Valentin Star. The reviews had all been fantastic with the exception of the food and my one concern was that some guests did not like kids at the hotel. I need not have worried. The hotel was fabulous for kids and the staff were so nice and pleasant we could not have asked for more. The swimming pool is great for toddlers allowing them to walk straight in and gave them loads of space and freedom to play with their toys. There were a number of other kids there and they all managed to play together having loads of fun without any problem to the "quieter guests". We had a room overlooking the pool and it was even nicer at night. The restaurant catered for all age groups with a massive range of food. Pizza, steak, pasta, salad, fish you name it they had it and all very fresh too. The sweets were to die for and never ever ran out. The staff in the restaurant were fabulous accommodating all the families with kids. Nothing was a problem for them. The entertainment programme definately was a hit or a miss. There was something different on each night. One show you should definately not miss is the Fourtops they were absolutely fabulous. These guys could sing and dance. However Mamma Mia was entertaining to say the least. One guy took a laughing fit and could not stop. At least they try and don't ask any of us to do what they do. It wouldn't be me. The Irishdancers were good too. The only down side to the entertainment was that there was not much for the kids. The rooms were very well equipped and the housekeeping was second to none I have experienced. They were all very cheerful, even after cleaning all of these rooms. Well done Magdalena. There is a small mini bar (not fridge) but it did a job. The towels are changed daily if you want them to be and there are towels provided for the swimming pool which was great. Just don't put the towels down to reserve your bed they will be removed and quite rightly so. I could go on and on about this hotel it was such a joy but all I would say is if you are going to the Valentin Star you will not be disappointed. If you are there is something drastically wrong.
Superb hotel

We have just returned home after a lovely holiday at the Valentin Star, the hotel is superb, from the attentive courteous staff, to the lovely spotlessly clean rooms. The food was a joy, with a fantastic range of choice and something to please even the fussiest of diners. The pool terrace area is lovely, very clean with plenty of good quality sun loungers available. There was a good standard of entertainment on each evening, and a very comfortable lounge to relax and enjoy a drink. One thing however could affect the enjoyment of your stay, and that is to be allocated one of the few rooms overlooking some noisy bars across the street from the hotel, that said the music stopped around midnight and some people we spoke to who stayed in those rooms said it did`nt spoil their holiday. We would definately return to this excellent hotel!
Great Holiday.

Me, my partner and our 11 month old stopped here for two weeks. I had researched prior to booking and can say that it was everything i was expecting. Great service, good food, very clean, and the pool was designed perfectly for babies/toddlers. We asked and got a pool view room which was on the ground floor. Every morning my little girl would crawl out of the patio doors across the grass and straight into the pool, it was absolute heaven fo her. I will be booking this hotel again and am looking forward to next year already.
very nice

We went to this hotel as a last minute quick break just for 3 days. We booked it through Travel Republic. It was British Airways flights and half board for £504. The hotel is lovely and I am really fussy. Pool - really lovely, very well kept and very large. No searching for a sunbed. In fact guests are not allowed to reserve them so its was nice to have a lie in! Pool side service for drinks. Comfy sunbeds. Piped music during the day, not too loud and a good variety. Rooms- room was very nice and clean. Basic but then they always are. Nice touch in the bathroom, it had stereo built in! If I was booking again I would ask for a room facing the pool. Food- strange one this. The breakfast was one of the nicest we have had, a huge choice. Sounds really bad I know but they did a proper full English! Plenty of fruit including fresh Mango and Papaya etc. Loads of delicious cakes including the most devine glazed donuts! The Evening meal was absolutely awful. Food choice really poor and cold! Didnt worry us because we only stayed 3 days. If you were on a two week holiday you would really struggle. Not sure how such a nice hotel could get everything else so right and make such a bad job of the evening meal? Resort- A small resort in a harbour. Not masses to do but quite nice to walk around. Glad we only went for a short break. NO clubs for anyone seeking a night out! Feed the fish in the harbour though, they are massive!! Overall we had a really lovely stay and the hotel was very nice. We felt very comfortable there and would definately return but only for a short break. From what we saw when the coach collected everyone up for the airport we were in one of the nicest resorts. If you have booked you will be pleased I am sure.
Not as good as others suggest

I have just got back from the Valentin Star after spending a week there with my Girlfriend. We are 28 and 26 years old respectivley. I have to say that the hotel itself was the best I have stayed in, better than your average Hilton standards that you would find in the UK. The food was good but the dining room was a very craoded when we are in there and usually full of screaming babies. If I was to review the general stay rather than just the hotel I would have to say that the resort itself was very boaring. I often stay at very quiet resorts such as Turunc in Turkey so I am not critical of Cala n Bosch because I am used to livley places. I found very limited eating places that were any good and for me the prices being asked did not meet the standards. We tried almost all the bars (only2 or 3 bars, most are pizza places) and didnt really find the staf very friendly. Don't expect to be offered a free drink or anything like you generally would in Greece, Turkey etc as it is not going to happen. You should only go to Calan Bosch if you have at least 1 child aged between 6 months and 3 years old as we seemed to be the odd ones out. I expect children on holiday it is a fact of life that kids are evreywhere but not like this place ! In the hotel restaraunt, round the pool, in the bars, on the coach, on the plane, in the streets you will find an incredible amount of babies ,children and prams, often accompanied by parents who think that you dont mind there offspring screaming down your ears whilst you are trying to get away from the rat race for a week or 2. Really, anyone who wants to have a quiet holiday and relax, believe me it is terrible.
Excellent hotel for a chav-free holiday!!
from jasebro
Booked as a late deal, stayed for a week. The hotel is modern and very spacious. Our room had a pool view after I requested it, and was also light, spacious and above all spotlessly clean! The food in the restaurant was excellent, always a large choice. The pool was excellent and was never too crowded, and there was always a space, even as late as 10am in the morning. Clientele was a nice mix of younger families and older couples, no chavs! Entertainment was a mix of very good and laughably bad, but that actually made it very amusing, rather than annoying. Location was perfect, it is in an excellent location right in the marina. Staff were also friendly and helpful. Myself and my girlfriend don't usually go for these package holidays, but this one was a cut above and would definately recommend to family and friends. Very, very pleased.
Perfect relaxation

Valentin Star is a 4 star hotel which is superbly situated near the harbour and is beautifully appointed. The rooms, reception and restaurant are air conditioned. The very clean pool is well designed with a large shallow area but a sufficiently deep area for adults. There are plenty of sunbeds and the staff even remove towels which have been put on chairs which are not used for hours...excellent! We had a room which was road facing and whilst disappointed at first, soon realised the evening entertainment took place round the pool! The beds were comfortable, lovely 4 piece bathroom, very clean and very quiet room. The bathrobes and pool towels were most welcome. We had half board and the buffet was of a very high standard every night with fish, meat and vegetarian dishes, some cooked whilst you wait. Very friendly staff. Wine a little on the expensive side but it is a 4*. Breakfasts were equally good, lots of fruit, continental and cooked breakfasts. Plenty of tea and coffee. There is an excellent fish restaurant called Aquarium round the harbour which we would recommend for a special treat. There is a small sandy cove within 5 mins walk, beds payable. We travelled with Thomas Cook and whilst everything we experienced was excellent, the trips we felt were too "boat orientated" although in fairness we were not interested in doing the trips. We did catch a local air conditioned bus to Ciutedella which was an interesting town, worth a visit. Last but not least, we did not get one mosquito bite! For someone who has ended up in hospital as a consequence of a bite before, this was definitely the icing on the cake!
Loved the Valentin Star
from bermondseybelle
We have just reurned from a 7 day half board break at the Valentin Star. Upon arrival the hotel staff were curtious, efficient and even offered us dinner at midnight which was quite a sweet touch. Our room was lovely, massive bed, air con, chair bed for our son and large balcony overlooking pool and entertainment stage (this was no trouble as the entertainment was great and went off by 11.30 every night) The standard of food at this hotel was impeccable and we did not have a bad meal at all. The choice was plentiful and i managed to avoid having chips every night! I found the restaurant well run, yes of course if you go in the summer holidays you are going to get children, we ourselves are a family, so we did not find this a problem. Entertainment was great, we had the beatles tribute, four tops, etc, it was nice enough to sit round the bar of an evening and watch. The pool was great, gently sloaping enough sunbeds to go round etc and the hotel staff do remove towels if reserved so beware!! The hotel provides towels so no need to bring your own. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and everyone we spoke to said they would be booking for next year and we can see why. We went through Thomas Cook but we will be booking direct with hotel next time. A fabulous holiday, in a luxurious hotel. Can i go back tomorrow please?
Another wonderful holiday

Third visit to this lovely hotel. Each visit the hotel improves and can never find anything to complain about. Wonderful hotel, location, and surroundings, not to mention great food and the most amazing friendly staff. This hotel is a must to visit in Minorca with its tranquil marina and warm seas. Cant wait for my next visit.
Perfect!

We booked this hotel for the first 4 days of our holiday, and didn't want to leave! The first impressions were good, welcoming reception, the bars and pool looked wonderful in the evening when we arrived. A porter took our luggage to the rooms, which was welcome when we arrived a bit hot and tired! We had booked three rooms which were not next door to each other, and even though we were only a couple of rooms apart, the reception immediately offered a change for the following day. We had a pool view behind the stage - this wasn't a problem as the entertainment did not finish too late (11.15). We were able to sit on our ground floor balcony and watch the entertainment. The food was wonderful - we all found something to our liking. My 15 year old son asked why he doesn't eat this well at home! There were selections of fish, chicken, veal, pork, beef, pizzas, salads, pasta, fruit, cheese, desserts - I have never seen such a choice before! The hotel was immaculately clean, and the pool area was outstanding. The pool starts as shallow as a paddling pool and gradually gets deeper - perfect for children. There wasn't much in the way of entertainment for children, but to be honest this wasn't a problem as we were able to spend the time with the children in the pool. A few games were organised in the pool but not many people joined in. The evening entertainment was good, not too tacky and my overall impression was that this hotel is ideal for couples and families. The staff were excellent - my husband was very impressed with the fact that he was followed by a waiter who had rushed to tell him that he had overpaid! I cannot fault this hotel at all. This is the best hotel that we have ever stayed at.
I went to the hotel in 2010 with my sister Jo and her family (She has written a review before, about the glass bottom boat..etc.) As children me and my sister always went abroad, but once we had an unfortunate flight with a lot of turbulence..etc. So my sister had a fear of... more
