Old Thorns Hotel and Golf Course

It was a shame the hotel had not mentioned the extensive building work going on when we booked, thought this was very discurtious. We could not have a lie in or a afternoon nap because of all the noise! The spa treatments were excellent however the spa itself was so disorganised I actually gave up as to what had been booked and when! We were lucky enough to have lots of sunshine but unfortunately there was nowhere to lie outside on a sunbed which was disappointing especially as the hotel was set in 400 acres of land! Golf course had interesting holes and was in great condition. Sadly the rest of the hotel did not live up to this. Staff working in restaurant did not appear to be effectively trained and directed. My friend is still waiting for his second bread roll from Saturday dinner which he was promised likewise his coffee from Saturday breakfast. When I asked for butter at breakfast I was offered left over stuff from another table by waitress. Come on Old Thorns give your staff clear direction and training and really capitalise on your great golf!

Just returned fron a overnight stay at hotel, staff very friendly and helpful, food was excellent, massage in the spa was oh so good, very relaxing weekend and will be recommending it to other people.

I stayed at Old thorns on a mid week break for some business, but mainly a pleasure break.. The room was fantastic with a plasma tv and very clean. The grounds were extensive and the golf course fantastic. The staff were very eager to please and courteous. Overall a great stay at Old thorns. I will absolutely be back!!

I was with 3 other friends and we came for the golf. The course was great...but thats about it. Hotel was good and the food was good but the local area was bad. Only a handful of pubs and restaurants so nothing lively. Will come back for the golf but not for the nightlife.

just back from an overnight stay at old thorns and am glad i paid no heed to the negative comments! reception staff were very welcoming and rooms very spacious and clean. swimming area/sauna/steam room lovely and clean and staff very approachable and friendly. now onto dinner, although the starters were quite small (but then i am quite greedy!) they were presented very well and the carvary was fresh and hot , all in all lovely. the manager on duty that evening (mike) was very good in ensuring everything running smoothly and all customers... more

Just back from a weekend at Old Thorns Liphook Very good value, and very comfortable room Even although they had two weddings on they treated the residents with excellent service in particular our waitress who went out of her way to see to our needs. The food was very good too. Good selection of Tv channels. For golfers driving range and nice course. Disliked the road humps in and out of the driveway !

We stayed here on a 3 day golf and spa break in December 2007. The golf course itself was superb. And the room was nice, with a large bed. But our praise stops there....the general service was poor, the atmosphere was awful, the bar was poor and the restaurant food was barely edible. We are Ladies Golf Society who go on golfing weekends several times a year. 14 of us stayed here for a weekend. Golf course was wonderful, as were the staff in the golf pro shop. However, thats where the good service ended. The bars had no Brandy, Baileys, and several bottled soft drinks which we requested. The fridges behind the bar were not working so drinks could only be cooled with ice. This was in the middle of a heatwave!! As you can see from the hotel's title, it is set on a golf course and the location is very beautful and tranquil. The room was lovely and large and was top class with a view over one of the holes on the golf course. Hotel guests have free use of the indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room and gym. The pool was quiet at the weekend but on Monday morning got packed with OAPs who did not seem to like to share!
