Sevenways Guest House reviews

10 / 10
Aug 2010, romantic_traveller29

I booked a stay at Sevenways with my partner for three days. As soon as we got there I knew we had made a good choice. The property from outside is so so romantic and very victorian. It was well maintained and immaculate. Just as it was described on the website... more

SO DISAPPOINTED
Met by friendly manager but what a cold, unfriendly place to walk into. Guest lounges almost devoid of furniture - couldn't tell if they were moving in or moving out. Only fire was that in the hall by the front door. Bedrooms w/ensuite nice and large and staff friendly but not amenable to complaint. It was supposed to be a treat for my elderly parents and at GBP.STG.180 for the four of us for one night, it definately is not good value. We will not stay there again.
Good location, friendly staff
We had no problems with booking and were very warmly welcomed by a member of staff who made loads of suggestions of places to visit and was very helpful. He also provided fresh milk for a cup of tea on arrival and offered bedtime milk for the kids. The breakfasts were great (both cooked and continental) and we all enjoyed them - breakfast staff very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We appreciated the internet access, which I wasn't really expecting in a B&B. We did notice a smell of cigarette smoke in our room (Room 5) on arrival... more
Skinflint owners!
We stayed in Buxton over the half term week just as the weather turned really cold. We appreciate that this is an older property but I don't think the radiators were on for more than a couple of hours each day. There were heaters in the room which just about made it bearable. Owners were nice when we saw them but they were really not about very much. Food was terrible - not much choice and half of the cooked breakfast was microwaved. Coffee was really weak! Overall it felt like the owners wanted our money but couldn't really... more
Go elsewhere!
I agree with those who say it is a 1* bed and brekfast. The house is nice as arts and crafts monument but as a modern B and b forget it now. Go elsewhere. There are some really good B and B's overlooking the park at the same price. I know we looked. 1960's bedrooms. Luke warm baths and no central heating in your room. Poor tv coverage - it rained heavily one of the two nights and we decided to grab a meal and return. The lounge was at about 6 degree C -literally! so sitting and reading was out so retired to our drab room and watched... more
So rude
Please don't book this B & B because the male person I spoke to was so rude when I said that I could book a hotel for less than their price. He suggested that I book the hotel then. They quoted me £70 for 1 night but I booked the Westmister Hotel for £60 a night . It's so overpriced.
For One Night Only - Thank Goodness.
I don’t usually write about such things but we feel so strongly about this place that I’ve just got to. My wife and I have just stayed at this ‘guest house’ for one night only – thank goodness. It was booked after seeing it advertised online, (it looks very nice from the outside), and we had to pay all monies up front - £70 before we got there – we know why now. To be fair, and positive points should be mentioned as well, the lady who met us on arrival (owner?) was pleasant and helpful. We were shown to our room and... more
Overpriced, undermanaged
I can only agree with the sentiments of those who found this place below par. While not a total disaster it was, in my opinion, a cheek to charge £70 a night for a double room which was just about warm enough to be acceptable but whose bathroom looked as if it had last been decorated in the 60s. When my partner and I came back in the afternoon from a long walk and wanted hot bath/shower the water was lukewarm. The light fitting over the sink didn't work and the toilet roll sat on a storage heater. These are minor points except when you are... more
Hated it!
We stayed on 7 December 2007. Very disappointed with our recent stay. Very unwelcoming; in fact we still do not know if we ever met the owners - just this woman who served breakfast and a man who showed us our room (who worked for the owners). The room looked as if it had last been decorated 20+ years ago when pink was in fashion. Although there was a nice big radiator it was never on, just an electric radiator with another electric heater in the bathroom; the sanitaryware was all pink (which shows how long it had been since it... more
Good B&B
Just spent one night at this B&B and after reading the mixed reviews on this I was a little dubious. However, I was pleasently surprised. It was clean and spacious, staff were friendly and helpful with a tasty breakfast. We stayed in room 7 which was clean and tidy. The only negative comment I have is the bathrooms need updating, ours was clean but basic however our friends stayed in room 1 and said their bathroom wasn't so good. However, on talking to the owner they informed us that they are in the process of refurbing all the... more
a lovey getaway
My boyfriend and I stayed at sevenways for one night in august. The victorian house was quiet charming boasting many of its original stone and woodwork features. The room itself was very clean. Breakfast was beautiful and the staff pleasant and helpful. It was a shame we could only stay one night.
