Forte Do Vale

Just back from a relaxing week at this hotel. Accommodation, location and staff top class. Decent size pool with plenty of loungers, hotel quiet but plenty of life nearby Hotel 10 mins from a beautiful beach, 10 mins from the strip and 15 mins from the old town. Apartments high standard and decent size with two balconies and TV with English channels. Plenty of decent places to eat nearby and also in old town. My friends and I stayed at this hotel half board. The dinner was horrible and upon complaining to the hotel 'owner' who walked away whilst my friend was still complaining about the food got the chef of the hotel to sort out our complaint. The chef informed us that the hotel management have outside catering for dinner and that the dinner is not cooked in the hotel. The hotel is newly built so everything was in good condition. We had a 2 bedroom apartment which included a balcony (granted, it overlooked the car park but we spent very little time in the room). The kitchen had the usual - stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, juicer and a toaster but no oven or kettle. Forte Do Vale - This is a recent development and we stayed 1st week in March 2009. We were given a 1 bed apartment on the first floor comprising, large bedroom, kitchen/lounge, bathroom, balcony and loads of storage space. Daily maid service kept it pristine and the reception staff could not have been more helpful. This apart - hotel has all the facilities you would expect from a 4 star and being new was a bonus. After reading other reviews we agree with most of what has been said. We found out by accident that in order to use the washing machine you have to ask at reception for the door to be unlocked. There was no kettle, no iron or a board and drying facilities. we were the LONELY EATERS in the dining-room. Half board was very good value and we were surprised nobody staying at the Hotel ever use it, only the odd couple coming from other hotels. This hotel really is 4 star, it was v quiet when we stayed as late in the season. However, it is luxurious. clean and everything you would expect from a 4 star establishment. Taxis to and from the centre are approx. 4 euros. We did not eat in the hotel as too many eateries we wished to try. Albufeira is a lovely resort, we enjoyed it hugely.

We stayed at Forte Do Vale for a week in October and the apartments were fantastic.I would fully recommend them and would have no hesitation going back . We booked a one bedroom apartment and it was extremely spacious and spotlessly clean. Like I suppose all fellow guests I booked late given star rating and price. Boy am I glad I took the plunge. As earlier reviewers have said you cannot really go wrong here. Unlike them I booked a studio, being on my ownsome but ,unless a studio now has a separate bedroom and lounge, I was upgraded. The apartment was huge and contained everything you could need, No nasty shocks with having to pay for aircon or TV remotes or breakage deposits. My husband and myself booked this hotel/apartment the day before we flew to Portugal, so it trully was a last minute holiday. As this is a brand new hotel (only opened in July) there wasn't any reviews online so we went into this one totally blind. The apartments are brand new - we were there two years ago and recall seeing them being built. They are approx 10 mins walk from the so called STRIP and 20-25 mins walk into the old town. Taxi fare to/from old town is 5 Euros. The apartment we had was divided into bathroom, large bedroom with two large single beds pushed together, living room, kitchen and balcony overlooking pools, Rue Dunfermline and the Tres Palmeiras roundabout.
