Just returned from 2 weeks at the above hotel and we were extremely happy with our choice. Apart from the first 5 days when work was being done on the beach, therefore closed, we had an excellent stay at a lovely, clean, friendly hotel. The staff were absolutely... more

Situated on the beach it is difficult to fault anything at this hotel. The food was unbelievable with a choice that took longer to choose than to eat. Apart from the main restaurant the Steak House, Mexican, and Asian restaurants were all excellent. The staff go out of... more

Myself and my partner spent 2 weeks at this hotel and found it to be the best all inclusive hotel we have stayed in so far. The hotel and rooms are always spotless and the staff are the best I've experienced yet - they definitely made our holiday, especially Alex at the... more

Awesome!!!
We went to the Rui Playcar July 5-12, 2002. We had an awesome time! The beach and ocean was beautiful! The bar hopping tour to Cancun was a fun time! Koba and the Mayan ruins was educational, and the snorkeling adventure was incredible! The weather was sunny every day...never a bad day! The bartenders at Rui Playacar: Mosies, Pablo, Victor, and Fransico were the best bartenders anyone could ask for. I would go back to Rui Playacar again! A+++++
A wonderful Time
We just went to RIU Playacar from July 15-19 and had a wonderful time. The place is beautiful and the staff are very friendly and accomodating. The food is plentiful - alot to choose from. I'm a very picky eater and never left hungry. I'm not saying everything was good but by the time you try all the different things you are full. The breakfast is the best meal in my opinion. The beach is great. They had plenty of lounge chairs to use. There were of course some things that could of been better. First of all, we were told they had American beer and they don't. They only had one kind and I think it was Double XX, not very good. Their idea of a frozen drink is not mine. I like mine to actually be slushy!! The air conditioners don't work very good. It was still hot in our rooms at night. It was bearable but we would of liked it to be a little cooler in our rooms, some place to escape the heat. The pool with the swim-up bar was closed for a day and a half. They have two pools so it wasn't that big of a deal but aggravated us at the time. IF you plan on laying out in the pool, bring your own raft, they don't provide any. I bought one down there and ended up paying $20 for a $3 raft. Alot of the people there were rude but that wasn't the resorts fault. All in all we had a wonderful time.
Great time..Great food
This resort was great. I had a great time and the food was excellent. I like the friendly people who work there because they make sure everything you need will be available. Try a drink called "The MUMMY" it's good. And YES you do have to reserve your seat at the Turquesa if you want to eat steak. I had to get up and reserve at 7:00am. There a show every night at "La Cumbia" which is located at the hotel. there is a swedish guy there presenting the show who speak many different languages. He's fun to watch because he gets everybody involved including people watching the show. I was on the third floor and the room does have a musty smell. I recommend you bring some fragranse candles or glade.
Wonderful resort and destination to visit
We travelled to this destination for our fifth time July 7,2002. We have stayed at Riu Yucatan, Riu Palace and now at the Riu Playacar. I recommend these to anyone. Riu Playacar is a little smaller than the Yucatan but the beach and water were Fantastic! The hotel is nice and clean, great food, rooms are very nice with a changing area and mini bar. We read alot about the smell of the rooms but we did not have a major problem with this. There is a little bit of a musty smell but if you have travelled to any tropical destination, you know this is common. We did not notice it after the first day. The entertainment is ok but not the best I have seen. Everything is done in 4 different languages and is sometimes hard to follow. When we go back, we will probably stay at the Riu Yucatan for a few reasons.1-they had a lobby bar 2-they have a work out gym 3-the Caribbean Street is at the Yucatan as well as the Internet room. If you go this hotel you should ask for building 5000 or 6000-these are closest to the pool and beach and also ask for the side overlooking the walkway. All in all the Playa Del Carmen area is the best vacation area I have ever travelled to. It has alot to offer-eco parks, ruins, shopping right across the street. The town is great-it is safe to walk around in, alot of shops and alot of bars and restaurants to choose from. I would recommend this anyone-singles, families, and couples.
Great Vacation
Me and my wife just spent a wonderful week at the RIU Playacar. You may have read about the A/C problems, ours worked great, no problems at all. There is a bit of a musty smell that may be caused by the Raid that they spray. Just open up the screen door and the smwll will go away. The beaches are beautiful. There are two pool, the one with the bar is more crowded so we use the other one to swim around and lounge around at. The Resort was full but we encountered NO waits for anything. There are plenty of lounge chairs by the beach and pools. The food is plentiful and good. You still have to get up at 7am to make reservations for the steak and seafood resturants, it fills up by 7:30. We ate at the steakhouse once and felt the buffet was better. Men have to wear long pants for the dinner buffet, since most of the dining area is air conditioned it was not a bother. Women can basically wear anything they want. The service is excellent everywhere you go. I felt the drinks were not watered down and there was not a long wait for bar service. We wish they had room service and that you didn't have to eat dinner at the same tim either 6:30 or 8:30. You have to decide on your first day. Any question please e-mail me at kjjarema@msn.com
Greatest vacation spot on earth
I took my daughter to the Riu Playacar for her college graduation. It was the best trip we have ever had. The staff was great ,the hotel was beautifull, the beach was the best yet, I would rate it a perfect ten. We plan to go back next year.
Excellent Vacation, Our first to visit RUI Playacar and recommened it to anyone!!
I recommened this Resort to anyone. We've been to Cancun before, but our stay at Rui Playcar was the best. There was a group of six all together with us, and we all thought it was wonderful. The staff was friendly, and asked if there was anything else they could do for you. The food was great, night shows were excellent, the bar was good, great watersports. i don't want to tell you everything because then I'll ruined your fun but trust me the resort is awsome. I would like to take the time to say thanks to everyone at RUI PLAYACAR for making our stay the best. We will be looking foward to seeing you next year!
Excellent-our second time there
This was our second time to the Riu Playacar and we plan on bring my parents there in the fall. For the price you pay, you difinately get your moneys worth. We brought along my husbands ten year old daughter and she had a great time! My husband and I even got a chance to go scuba diving one day while an employee from the kids club kept her occupied (and she loved every moment of it). The rooms were excellent, employees very helpful. Although I suggest you remember to bring everything back with you from the pool. Once you forget something by the pool it's finders keepers. That's how I lost a pair of sandels. But all in all, this is going to be our vacation destination until we get bored and need something different.
We Are Going Back ASAP
We spent 5 days at the Rui Playacar arriving Cinco de Mayo. Having spent time at various resorts and venues around the Caribbean, we were completely taken in with this facility. The common complaint is the musty odor in the rooms, but to us that is a fragrant reminder of the tropics and quite common to island rooms. The food, the friendly and accomodating staff, the flora and fauna on site and the beautiful pools and beach all convinced us that this is where we are going next. We booked a package with USAir that was easily priced at half of its value. For us, this was Mexican Shangri-la.
thumbs up
We just got back from 8 days at Riu plyacar and I can't stop smiling yet.My wife and 15 yr old daughter and myself had a great time.We found everything to be as promised.Yes the rooms have a musty smell, however we have been camping all our lives so to us it wasn't a big deal.We brought a Glade plug in air freshener and it took the edge off the smell. The staff was very nice and the whole place is kept very clean. The weather was perfect everyday, which allowed us to swim everyday in the Caribean and the pool.Food was great, lots to choose from, We drank lots of non alcoholic tropical drinks and ate a ton of fresh fruit.Awesome place. We were figuring out our savings budget on the flight home so we can return next year.Go for it you won't regret it.
