Kirkhill Mansion reviews

Just back from a 2 day stay at Kirkhill Mansions (should have been a 3 day stay) and loved the peace and quiet (just sorry we had to leave early due to family emergency). I know the place is a bit run-down and that it could do with a lick of paint and a good spring clean,... more

this is a somewhat dilapidated old mansion which has only been partly renovated. Plumbing wasn't good, toilet didn't flush effectively, water from sink re-appeared up through the shower plughole and was smelly; electric shower went from red hot to ice cold without any... more

Greeted at the door by staff member who took us to a very nice room with a large bathroom. We were asked if we would like a full Scottish breakfast (we had paid for a continental but were told we could choose). The Flat Screen TV is Free-view and with great reception. When... more

This luxurious mansion was difficult to find - one of party was lost for an hour - due to lack of signage which was not a good start. Arriving, there was good parking but the mansion appeared a bit dilpidated and in need of a lick of paint. The rooms are nicely decorated... more

a really enjoyable break
i've just been reading some of the reviews on here and must say i'm really surprised. we stayed at Kirkhill Mansions in December and had a great time. the property itself is fantastic (with some rooms clearly freshly decorated), the staff were friendly and helpful and our room was fresh, clean and well equiped. we were told that a lot of the staff were new so presumeably that is paying off - we'd be happy to go back!
A breath of fresh air
My husband and I chose Kirkhill Mansions as it was recommended to us by friends. We were greeted by a very helpful lady who showed us to our rooms and was on hand when we had any questions. Our evening meal was delicious and I thought the rooms and general property was very clean and cosy. The most fantastic thing about the place is that it was lovely and quiet so suited us perfectly. I didn't even realise there was a hottub until I got there ... FAB!!! Clearly there has been a change of management here!
Nice place to stay
Myself and my girlfriend decided to have a weekend break from Edinburgh last weekend. We booked our room with a nice chap Scott who has advised us to stay at the Kirkhill House near Edinburgh. When we arrived on Friday night, nice young lady welcomed us and showed us our room.It wasn't too big, but not too small either. Plasma TV on a wall was a nice suprise though. Weather wasn't so great but we managed to use a very relaxing outdoor jackuzii. With a views over the valley and a glass of shampagne it was a very pleasent... more
One of the worst breaks ever!
My girlfriend and I travelled up from South London. We were met by unpleasant staff in a kitchen full of people smoking. Our room was shabby, breakfast was a plate of hard cheese and dry ham. We were left to make our own tea and instant coffee. I am extremely disappointed. I have phoned the emergency number which was turned off.
dont expect much
we arrived after a 10hr drive to find our rooms were not even made up, the owner was very nice but this did not help. We were left totally alone with no staff which was not great in a huge house. We woke up to no hot water in our room and had to use another room whic was unlocked to wash. After a long day we went to sleep only to be woken but a splitting noise with the whole house shaking my husband said it was the boilers over heating. We were totally alone and when we tried to get help the owner was away and other staff could not come as... more

WHAT A RIP OFF
Following a drive from East Anglia with time constraints as we were going to the Edinburgh Military Tatoo we arrived at Kirkhill Mansion for two nights.. The place was deserted, gardens not cared for and rubbish piled in black bags on the driveway. From the outside it was best described as shabby and in need of decoration. No reply. Having booked through Expedia I rang the agent (ScottishApartment.com) and was told that they no longer do business with Kirkhill as they were owed money. They will send a man to take us to... more
I think it is a con
I booked in May 2009, to stay for 4 nights starting 23rd August. During the 5 hour drive up from the Midlands on 23rd August, I had a call from home to say that the hire company was trying to contact me. I called them and they said that as i was going to the festival in Edinbugh, they had got an apartment in town for me. After a long discussion they fianlly admitted that there was a double booking, but i insisted on going to the "mansion" as we wanted to stay out of town and I had bought fishing tackle to fish the small river flowing though... more
Avoid at all costs!
I wish I had seen the previous review when I booked and paid my large deposit for Kirkhill back in April. What a disaster. On switching my mobile back on having landed at Edinburgh Airport, I had a voicemail message from the owner David, telling me that there was a small problem with Kirkhill. He had men who had been 'working their backsides off' to get somewhere else ready for me instead. This was at 9.45pm. When I rang him to find out what he was talking about, it transpired that rather than honouring bookings like mine, from... more
Shocking. Noone was even there so we had to find somewhere else to stay!
Having booked to stay at Kirkhill Mansion for a very close friend’s wedding in Edinburgh last Saturday, my boyfriend and I arrived at The Kirkhill mansion B&B on Friday evening (June 12). Having spent 10 hours in the car driving up from London we were keen to settle in for the evening but unfortunately no one was there. We spent the next half hour knocking at the door and trying to call the owner. Shortly someone emerged and told us that the owner was ‘notoriously bad’ at getting in touch and that this happened to guests... more
