First of all, everyone I met during my stay at the Rocamarina was very warm, polite, friendly and had great manners. Something quite rare these days. There was a sense of camaraderie and complete strangers would stop you and chat away like they’ve known you for years.... more

A spotless hotel with first rate staff.A very acceptable standard of food with plenty of choice and as much as you like.Evening entertainment was reasonable with some very good acts.Could find no justification though for the very high bar prices.Overall, I would recommend this hotel and visit again.

We are supposed to be on Holiday
Based on experiences at other Gold Hotels Impeccably presented Hotel, probably the cleanest we have experienced. The Thomson Entertainment Team are excellent with one proviso I will come to later, especially Joe Davis who has endless energy and a professional presentation. The team should realise that not everybody wants to play games during the day around the pool, however they should not be excluded from the evening events just because you guys don't know their names.(Come out of the comfort zone) The same people in the week we were there, were always called up on stage to the point of being embarassing, how many Thomson Gold Wine Stoppers and Luggage Straps can anybody want. The Dining arrangements are too regimented, we opted for the second sitting on the terrace were you are allocated a table for the week for dinner only. Breakfast is Pot Luck which we found to our cost. On our first night we went down for a drink before Dinner at about 7-45pm. The terrace was empty of the first sitting of diners except the couple on our table. All the second sitting diners were at their tables by 8pm however our table was not vacated until 8-25pm. I pointed this out the head waiter who did nothing. The following morning we went down to breakfast, however no tables were available on the terrace, this is were we committed a mortal sin and sat at a table inside the dining room. Within minutes the same guy who did nothing for us on the evening before leapt upon us and proceeded to what was tantamount to frog march us with plates in hand out of the dining room. We were not amused. The food is only average and some of the staff need to lighten up somewhat. We were supposed to be on Holiday not at School Dinners. As said before the Hotel itself is beautiful but eating and relaxing without a show down and queuing for Sunbeds was at a premium. This should not be difficult to resolve if the operators are interested, I don't think we will be going back.
What about those SUNBEDS
Stayed at the Rocamarina 24/7/06 to 31/7/06 - Full Board This was our first experience of Majorca and the resort of Cala Dor was lovely as was Cala egos where the rocamarina is situated. The food and entertainment was OK, we did eat out a few nights just to sample the local restuarants and also to get away from the, "you must eat at 8pm" , because we wanted to sit outside, rules!! To be fair the entertainment was OK. The Hotel was very clean and the staff were fantastic. However, and this is a BIG, however, if you want to sit around the pool using the supplied sunbeds, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !! unless of course you are one of those that is happy to start queing at 8.30am with your towel and when the hotel unlocks the doors at 9am, join the stampeed to the sunbeds and once there you must then jostle with other guest's to get the bed you want. These are all English people as well, not the Germans that we all tend to blame for this behaviour !! Well as you can guess I was not one of those !! and yes I went a whole week with not using the pool - what a waste of money !! I could have used the sunbeds in the Tennis club across the road for 10 euros a day, but again these were all taken. Not to be downhearted we hired a small car for the week and visited some amazing beaches which had sunbeds available every day - thank god !! I find it amazing that a so called three star hotel allows this to happen. I shall of course be writing to Thomson to complain about this but the only way I can get any satisfaction from all this is not to use the Rocamarina or Thomson again.
OUR THIRD VISIT
We have just returned from out third visit to the Rocamarina. The hotel still has it's friendly staff and comfortable well furnished rooms but it also has a few silly rules. On the plus side we did receive a bottle of champagne from the Management as we were returning guests. The dining arrangements are crazy. You are allocated a table on your first night which is yours for the duration of your stay. However, if you wish to dine on the terrace you have to be allocated a time slot. Whatever happened to - we're on holiday, chill out? Thomson Gold prides itself on tables for two as it's all about couples - however, the tables are set out in rows, with no space between each other, therefore, no privacy! Our overall impression was, school dinners, cruise ship! Due to this we chose to eat out every night. This wasn't a problem, there are lots of lovely places to eat out but it is a great disapointment after paying for half board. The hotel Rocamarina really needs to buy in a few more sun loungers. There was not enough to go round, causing the daily queue for the pool opening at 9 am. Its was ridiculous to see people standing in line, ready to run to get a sunbed around the pool. We chose to sunbathe in the gardens and managed to get a sunbed most days but we did have to go to the tennis club a couple of days and pay for the pleasure of a sun lounger, even though it belonged to the hotel! The dining arrangements and the daily scrum for the sunloungers are the only negatives we can say about this hotel. Luckily for Thomson it it two problems that can easily be sorted. The resort of Cala Egos is quite nice, fairly low key with just enough shops, pubs and restaurants. Calor Dor Marina is a short walk away as is the resort of Cala Dor itself. There is the Es Forti Fort a short stroll from the hotel, it's worth a visit, the views are lovely. We hired a car in resort for a couple of days. It wasn't expensive and it was nice to visit the places the Tour Operator will take you at your own place in your own time. The West Coast is truly breathtaking, we saw some beautiful scenery. The roads are well maintained and well sign posted. Valdemosa, Soller, Banybalfuar, Deja and The San Salvador Monastry are all worth a visit. Overall, we had a lovely relaxing holiday and will choose the Rocamarina in future. Let's hope that Thomson has sorted the dining and sunlounger arrangements!
Very expensive for what it is
This hotel is part good hotel and part low budget Butlins style. The rooms are of a good standard as are the reception and the lobby. On the bad side is the pool which is cramped and very, very poor. We did not once stay beside it in the day; instead we had to pay extra for the Tennis area pool which is a rip off. The food is ok but no where near 4 star standard and not worth the £600 + we paid through Thompson Who incidentally won’t be getting our custom again because of this holiday. Entertainment would give Butlins a run for its money, if you like that type of thing stick to Torremolinos and get it much cheaper. On the whole it is ok for older generation who have not travelled much and like an old fashioned beer and fags knees up.
The most enjoyable stay yet................
We both very much enjoyed our stay at the Rocamarina the staff we very friendly, the hotel immaculate the food, well, I must have put at least a stone on in weight. The restaurant was fantastic, the variety of food was endless, again the staff were impeccable. We enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms were very clean and the bed very comfy. The production team on the entertainment were very very friendly, and encouraged you to get involved in the many games and activities they arranged. This of course encouraged you to mix with the other guests, we made quite a few friends there. We also enjoyed visiting the many coves in this part of Spain, we did not have time to visit them all. We are going there again in May 2006 and looking forward to it immensely.
Roca rip off would be more correct
(1) A Safe deposit box can be hired for 13 euros per week. These sit outside the reception area which has 24 hour presence anyway. That means, for no further work the hotel is collecting 100 guests x 13 euros = 1,300 euros per week and each and every week for nothing. (2) Kettles can not be used in the rooms but they can be hired from reception at 28 euros per week! At that price, we expected the kettle to make toast and cook a meal as well. (3) Hotel postcards are 5 years out of date and show a separate swimming pool that no longer exists. When my husband pointed this out, the reply was a very Spanish shrug. (4) Rules are posted about 'no leaving towels' etc but are not enforced by staff..... so therefore completely ignored by guests. (5) "The tennis club across the road is part of our complex". Ah, but they don't add that it costs 10.50 Euros per day, per couple if you want to use a lounger and umbrella. You can sit in 5* hotel for that rip-off. (6) 'Wash and iron t-shirt - 3.50 euros.' In the shops up the road, a brand new t-shirt costs just 3 euros! (7) One couple got 'told off' by a manageress for taking a breakfast coffee back to their room. When asked why this was not allowed the reply was "it's the hotel rules". On being asked why it was the hotel rules, the reply was "because it has always been". The couple persisted - but why? Same reply came back - "it's the hotel rule." But why? "well it always has been and nobody else has complained". Repeat the above for 5 minutes and in the end, the couple just shrugged, drank the coffee in front of her and left the cups there for her to clean up. (8) Dining room staff (male seniors anyway) are aloof and disdainful and make you feel as if really, you should be waiting on them. They 'direct' you to a table and have their own wierd seating rules that seems designed to justify their existence. However, the young female staff (the juniors) are very smiling and helpful. But beware of leaving your table to get extra bread etc or your plate disappears. Happened to 3 guests while we were there ! To sum up: A lazy almost arrogant hotel that survives on it's past reputation and with the guaranteed bookings from Thomsons 'more mature' guests. 'More mature' guests also means they are more polite, better mannered and will rarely complain. Younger people would not tolerate the hotel's attitude and pricing policies. (3)
enjoyed
Stayed at the rocomarina in cal ador 3.09.05/ to the 17/09/05. Hotel very clean staff pleasent food ok if you like apple crumble and bread pudding on offer 7 nights a week. Entertainment ok but sometimes boaring and not professional. Be aware waiters very quick to remove your plates at times felt hurried. No chance off sun bed by the pool towels on then at 9am every morning.
Not for younger couples or people
This hotel was mainly full of older English couples. I would not recommend this hotel for younger people. The reception staff were very unfriendly. The food was good apart from it being cleared away before you had finished eating so you had to rush to eat all the courses in time. There wasn't a choice if you were vegetarian and didn't eat fish. There was a big rush each morning for sunbeds and by 9.10am there were none left by the pool. However the entertainment team were very good. The rooms were very clean and well decorated.
Bresh of fresh air,
What a breath of fresh air to have a holiday full of good things, great weather, great food, great staff and best of all the entertainment keep it up nice to see such a proffessional group.
1st class cleanliness
It was our first time on holiday without children!!! Hotel did'nt allow children under 16. This was the cleanest hotel we have ever stayed at - the chamber maids were excellent as were the reception staff, dining staff, even the guests, everyone had a smile on their face. Overall a very enjoyable holiday and I would definately stay here again. The only down side to this hotel was that we struggled to get a sun lounger, this meant we had to go over the road to the beach or tennis court pool and bar both being excellent but we had to pay.
