Koukias Village Apartments

Just back from a week at the Koukias Apartments in Troulos, Skiathos. I can't recommend Skiathos enough.. it's a beautiful island and small enough to get around and see most things. The beach at Troulos is a tad busy but not compared to the beaches you see in Corfu and other more "touristy" places. Not full of kids - which was good - and not full of drunken British teenagers - which is even better! The Koukias was a weird experience though. For a start, the building looked nothing like the picture in the Thomas Cook book (infact, we have almost come to the conclusion that it's not it). The only other slight problems were the noise of the farm nextdoor at about 5am (I've never heard such an aray of animal noises, it was almost funny) and the karaoke which occurs every night. Yes folks, Koukias is owned by Skiathos' own King of Karaoke and he sings (even if no-one else does) EVERY SINGLE night. We were unlucky enough to have the closest room to the bar and the first night it was dreadful - it was soooo loud and went on until about 2 am. But it did quiet down during the week and didn't bother us much after the first night. It's a shame you can't have any quiet evenings in the bar though, without the awful singing! All in all - a lovely island (Skaithos town is brilliant) and Troulos is an ok resort but Koukias was just average. Which is a shame because it had the biggest and nicest apartment I've ever had.
