Croatian delight!!!!!
from LadyfromLeeds
We holidayed here in June, 2006 and had a lovely holiday. The hotel was spotlessly clean, our room was cleaned on a daily basis; towels were also changed daily and the bedding was changed at least five times during our 2 week stay. The room we had was a front sea facing room which was absolutely fabulous with a separate living room!!! Very impressive!!! All of the staff were really friendly and polite and the entertainment staff employed by the hotel worked really hard although the evening entertainment was "nothing to stay in for". The pool was cleaned daily and the surrounding areas were clean with plenty of sunbeds, tables, chairs etc. We only went bed and breakfast which seemed to be the best way to do it as other people we spoke to weren't too impressed with the evening meals and there are loads of really good restaurants to chose from which were very reasonable. The position of the hotel couldn't be better - right on the front within 20 yards of the sea and within 10 minutes stroll into the harbour of Makarska which is a lovely town. There are lots of excursions within easy travelling distance, should you wish to go on any and all in all our holiday was just lovely. The weather was outstanding and we had 14 days of continuous sunshine. We also travelled with Thomas Cook and were very impressed by their organisation and the Rep. in the hotel, Julie, although we didn't need to go see her for anything, was always there when she should have been. All in all, a wonderful holiday which will stay with us for a long time.
Loved it all!

We holidayed in Croatia for the first time from 1 July 2006 for one week. We could not fault the Hotel Meteor, the accommodation was comfortable and clean, not luxurious, but you don't expect luxury for the price paid! The buffet style breakfast and evening meal was plentiful, varied and cooked beautifully (and I am fussy!) We booked through Thomas Cook and they could not have been better. The tours offered are excellent value for money and well worth going on with the Thomas Cook reps and tour guides friendly and very knowledgeable. We went to the waterfalls, Bosnia and river trip with traditional lunch - all excellent. Would certainly return to Croatia, and possibly stay somewhere like Dubrovnik so as to experience a different area.
Very nice hotel

we stayed at this hotel for the last week in June. The rooms were clean and tidy, and towels were changed every day. We were late arriving but the hotel provided a cold meal in the room. The restaurant was OK, and the evening meal always had a veriety of meats and a fish item. The drinks waitresses were very friendly and were quick in clearing used plates. We liked the compact dining room as we were able to chat to other diners. Breakfasts were also good with plenty of fresh fruit. The salt water pool was warm and we used it every day, although we mainly used the very convenient beach directly in front of the hotel. The large pine trees provided plenty of welcome shade and sun loungers are cheap for the day. You must use footwear (cheap) in the sea to avoid stings. Plenty of bars and eating places nearby, and pleasant walks along the promenade. Central position in Croatia for trips south to Dubrovnik (good), north to Krka water cascades (good), east to Mostar, west to islands, etc. Overall we would recommend this hotel.
Pretty Good....but.....

2 night stop in Makarska on way to Split via public intercity bus. It is 2 blocks from the public bus station. The hotel and rooms were modern and comfortable and roomy enough and the price for what you got in Croatia was great. Yes it does seem to cater to bargain seeking retired older English folk and the vast cafeteria style breakfast room with average fare is a little disappointing and frustrating. I guess the disco didn't work and it's franchised out to a strip/ lap dance club but I saw no problems assoicated with this. Did find it weird that they do not provide towels for the very clean, well sunned, salt water pool, nothing a little tip to the maid didn't take care of. Front desk staff was very nice suggesting good restaurants (Jez where we had one of our best meals in Croatia) and tried to lend me an electrical adapter. Despite a drizzle I found Makarska more charming than the grossly overpriced, hyped Islands of Hvar and Korcula. It's got a decent beach, a nice port and shops and very dramatic majestic mountains as a backdrop.
Good bread and breakfast

We stayed for one night while travelling Croatia and were very pleased, although I do not think we would have appreciated full board. We were able to book a room with a large balcony overlooking the sea, with sun beds and table, which was just what we needed after a long days travel. We thought the rate was very reasonable for an 'on spec' booking in June. The room was a good size with everything in order. The staff we met (not many) were all pleasant. The breakfast was acceptable, although the dining area seemed very crowded and we would not have wanted to have lunch or dinner, 'institutional meals' sprang to mind. That was no problem as there were many restaurants within walking distance. The pool was clean but cold. The other guests being mainly Saga did not trouble us, everyone was very courteous. Overall a pleasant experience for a night and a good location. The building itself is probably one of the two ugliest in Makarska, but if you are inside it that is not a problem!
Very disappointed with meteor

We stayed at the Meteor for 2 weeks June 2006, very disappointed with standard of food & service. In our opinion this is a 3* hotel, just. The Taverna is permanently closed. The indoor pool has restricted opening hours. The dining room reminded us of school canteens, we even had to lay our own place settings at breakfast. After a week we changed from H/B to B/B. Would not recommend this hotel. We found it soulless. .
Great for Saga-ites!!!Not So The Under 30's

Visited Hotel Meteor 15TH MAY - 22MAY we are couple late 40'S/ely50'S but were classed as a young couple, only 1 other couple our age until day 5 of holiday when a late 20'S/ely30'S couple arrived - with a toddler!! !nearly a wk& we had not heard a childs voice anywhere in hotel/pool area or dining room! Met a few young-at-hearts but average age 76! They even have a special Saga room - out of bounds to anyone else, BUT when their " free" bar ended at 10.30PM they wobbled to hotel bar - which shut at 11.00PM!!! Think we went a couple weeks too early in the season as resort not operating on full steam, due to the fact most of resort visited by older generation!! Ferry service also sparse but will be up & running beginning of June. Makarska very pretty & unspoilt, not for you if you want English pubs/Food/Loud music bars,(Probably very different in July/August)but people very welcoming & friendly, they speak excellent English& are veryhelpful. Hotel Meteor very clean/bed linen & towels changed daily/Bedrooms of very high standard- you can see the sea from a side sea view - if you lean carefully over the balcony!(but dont expect to see anything when sat on balcony due to balcony wall being high)-& reception/maid sevice/dining room assistants all friendly & cheerful. We found more choices of food @ lunchtimes so swapped evening dinner for lunches which enabled us to walk into centre-10 mins stroll away- to sample local cuisine at a very reasonable price.
Spot on

Very plesant hotel situated in an ideal position for local walks and for touring the Dalmation coast, some of the islands and the inland villages. Rooms were good and kept really clean every day, the food was plentifull and vairied. Hotel facilities were excellent and the staff could not do enough for you.
Very good Hotel, pity about the catering

Tour Company Holiday Options May 2006, Male and Female both aged 59 This has the potential to be an excellent hotel but, at present, it is very badly let down by the food and dining room. Location The hotel is excellently situated, on the sea front but separated from it by the swimming pool. Makarska is only a few hundred yards away along a flat promenade. Rooms We knew from various brochures that most, if not all double rooms, had views described as “Side sea view”. (The front facing rooms seemed to be larger Family rooms) We asked for a High room to enable us to maximise the views and we were not disappointed, we had room 903, one of only 4 rooms on the top floor of the right hand wing, as viewed from the sea. The room was spacious with excellent views of the Mountains, Sea, and the Town of Makarska, Public Areas Spacious and well furnished, plenty of Sun beds when we were there. Facilities Apart from the outdoor pool, there was an indoor pool and Spa pool as well as a well-equipped Gym sauna etc. The weather was excellent when we were there and as we wanted to explorer Croatia, we did not have time to use any of them. Staff All the Staff were helpful and friendly, the Bar staff in particular remembering what we usually drank, our Room Number and where we were likely to be sitting. Catering Before we went we read, on this board and similar, that the food was not the best and we budgeted accordingly, (we were half board) but in our opinion the food and catering in this Hotel is certainly more like a 2* hotel rather than 4*. As you would expect from the Adriatic/Mediterranean region the local shops sell an excellent range of Fish, Meat, local vegetables and fruit but it disappears before it gets to the Meteor. If you like monotonous food with large helpings of Brussel Sprouts and frozen Carrots followed by combinations of Blancmange and Angel Delight then this is the place for you, that is if you can survive the “Bun fight” for Service in a cramped dining room. The popular comment among the guests was “reminds me of school dinners” It was early season but it was not possible to get poolside snacks but Tommy’s Supermarket is only 100Metres away with a good fresh bakery section at very cheap prices. We had a number of Picnics round the pool for less than £3 for 2 Would we go back? Certainly, if we could get a room only deal, we had some excellent continental breakfasts right on the beach only 200metres along the promenade, and between there and the Hotel there is a superb restaurant and a terrific Café-bar. The Marina, 10 minutes walk has many fine eating establishments, thankfully not a KFC, Mcdon…. Or “English Breakfast” in sight A special thank you to the Holiday option Rep who arranged for a Bouquet of Roses to be in our room when we arrived.
Wonderful stay in Meteor Hotel.

We have just got back from a week in the wonderful Meteor Hotel to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday. Due to late arrival of aircraft we did not arrive at hotel until after midnight but we had been left buffet meals in our rooms so were well fed. The rooms were well presented and were of high standard. The rest of the week just got better by the day. Staff were great and could not do enough for us. On my daughters birthday she was given a surprise bottle of wine even though we had not told the hotel that it was her birthday. We later found out that they had noticed her date of birth from her passport. The facilities were superb and there was a good spread of nationalities staying there. We had the beautiful Adriatic to our front and the magnificent mountain range to the rear. Our Balkan Holiday rep, PAKA, attended the hotel on a regular basis and was very helpful. The weather was sunny and pleasant. We have already booked our return trip for next year.
