I was a guest at Mosquito Blue from March 6, 2005 through March 15th, 2005. During the course of our stay there, we experienced many problems, some of which were resulting from glaring misrepresentations listed on their hotel website. First of all, their website states... more

Great hotel in the middle of town
Just got back and this was a great hotel!. I was surprised to read reviews that the staff was rude because I experienced the complete opposite. Everyone was very friendly. Every time my friend and I passed through the doors we always stopped and chatted with the people who were working the desk. The hotel grounds are beautiful, very charming. A lot of attention was spent on the details of the place. The courtyard was exquisite. The best about the hotel is that it is so tranquil, you forget that it is right in the middle of the town.
central Quinta location
Just got back. Mosquito Blue is quaint, quiet and relaxing. It is right in the middle of Fifth Avenue which is the lively main street in the Playa. The location is truly ideal. There are two nice pools which are about 10 feet deep. The beach is right across the street, but their complimentary beach club is 7 blocks away and if you don't get there before 9AM on a beautiful day, it may be full and you'll be outta luck for a chair, but there is SO much beach you'll have no problem finding a spot. I would not suggest getting a room on the side which faces the street, it could get loud at night, but there are no noisy bars or clubs right outside your window, only delicious smells from the various restaurants and folk strolling. We had a deluxe room with a balcony looking out onto the pool and were very pleased with the room, the service and the location.
Rude Staff! But beautiful hotel
A friend and I stayed at the Mosquito Blue April 2003. The hotel grounds and the pool are beautiful and amazing BUT the staff is rude and it can tend to be noisy. On a few nights, people stayed up partying to the next morning pool side, which we are no prudes by any means, but it was loud and the people don't care. Also, there was a claim to beach chairs and in our 4 days we had yet to find mosquito blue's beach chairs! The front desk was not helpful by any means and I would recommend either Desao, for those looking for a unique experience or a beachfront hotel.
Lovely Little Place
My boyfriend and I stayed here in late October/early November 2003 on a trade with RCI. I loved this hotel so much. Beautiful rooms, lovely details, great pools. While an Italian woman at reception was hardly friendly, she got the job done--handing out towels, passes to the beach club, answering general questions, etc. We had a room on the top floor with a patio and umbrella and I was in heaven. The design of the shower allowed it to leak but I was so relaxed, I didn't care. The staff cleaned it up each time. Playa and this hotel are so gorgeous and laid back. I wish I was there right now!
Rude staff
We called the hotel for reservation, because we were looking fordward to go on march, but the guy at the front desk, who answered the phone call, simply said look i m very busy right know, and just hung up on me twice. I He did not even bother the say something like , "If u give me your phone number i ll get back to you.. or something like that.. He was potentialy rude like you were asking for a favor..so we are actually going to Deseo, just across the street, alot nicer and wiilling to serve it scustumers, nicely... Tony
Great Room for the Price
My partner and I stayed at MB last weekend and really liked the hotel. With the front and back pool the place is nice and relaxed. We had an upstairs room with a nice patio...it is true that the ac was turned off after the room was cleaned and it seemed like the same woman was working the desk the entire time we stayed...but I have already told a couple of friends to check the place out...we thought it was cool and would go back if given the chance. The rate was good and the room was really nice...we had bell service to the room and no complaints regarding the service. We did not eat onsite or order room service, but there are tons or places to eat right on 5th ave. The beach is a little far, but was fine.
charming!
I'm amazed at the bad reviews I've read here of this delightful hotel! I stayed here with my boyfriend in January 2003 and we were both thrilled with the level of care and attention that had been put into the place. Our room contained beautiful carved wooden furniture and the whole hotel was filled with creative touches. If you find large brash hotels slightly offensive then this place is for you. A highlight for me were the little candle lit alcoves where you can while the evening away in complete privacy. The location for me was perfect, just set off the main restaurant/bar street and only a very short walk to the beautiful beach which stretches forever. We had a room at the back of the hotel, which probably was much better than being at the front. Admittedly the staff lacked the some charm, but to be honest I never needed to speak to them so it didn't bother me. I got this holiday on a cheap internet deal with jmc, and so for the price it was more than perfect. I've already highly recommended it to a friend.
Fabulous pools but...
Beautiful setting, with a lot of thought gone into the looks of the hotel. The pools are gorgeous and deep, you can't touch the bottom. I loved that. The interior of the rooms are brightly coloured and attractive. We were on the LHS first building/quiet side of the hotel and so sleep wasn't a problem. We had A/C but it was very weak and it was turned off after the room was cleaned. The down side was the staff. When we arrived there was noone to take our bags to our room. Not a big deal really, I know but! The room was very musty smelling. The sheets smelt unwashed and smokey. The porch doors were left open after our room was cleaned, we were on the ground floor! Nothing was taken but I complained to the front desk staff. There was only one person on the front desk the entire time we were there and so at peak times there were 5-6 parties of people trying to get get keys or get checked in or out. I think that the management has a problem and is not paying the staff enough for there to be so many minor problems occuring. We stayed 2 nights in September 2003. If you were tempted to go then go for an upstairs room they have balconies with umbrellas - they looked nicer.
Rude People Working there!!!
I stayed at the hotel last weekend with 6 friends. The room was terrible, right next to a very busy and noisy street. We asked the front desk personel for another room and they answered in a rude way. The beach is really far away, you have to walk like 7 blocks. The front desk italian girls think you are staying there for free because they are so rude and do not help you in any way feel comfortable. I hated the place and I am NEVER EVER coming back to the hotel!
Gorgeous tiny place !
Spent 15 night there and I found it perfect on every aspect : location, asian touch decoration, calm and excellent staff. The breakfeast was great and the room acceptable for the paid price! Honestly the most valuable within Playa, I mad ea our there and it comes that it is the best price quality ratio hotel in the area !
