I was a guest at Mosquito Blue from March 6, 2005 through March 15th, 2005. During the course of our stay there, we experienced many problems, some of which were resulting from glaring misrepresentations listed on their hotel website.
First of all, their website states that they have a "Beach Bar with complementary sun beds and towels (location 500 meters away)." In fact, what they offered were lounge chairs at a public beach located a fifteen to twenty minute walk away from the hotel to which you were required to carry your towels from the hotel and back and which did not include even a palapa for shade. Three times during our stay when we tried to go to the beach, there were not any chairs or palapas available.
Their website also claims that all rooms have "customized white Egyptian cotton sheets with 300 thread count," "down pillows" "telephone with speaker capability and internet access" and "data port connections for modem/fax hook-ups," all of which was a complete lie. The sheets barely fit the bed and were certainly not 300 thread count, there were no down pillows provided and there was most certainly not internet access in the rooms, as the website claims.
In addition to all these amenities the hotel claimed to have and did not provide, there were several other problems during our stay. Upon arrival, the transportation we reserved through the hotel was not there to pick us up. We waited almost an hour for someone to come and take us to the hotel after being assured someone would be waiting for us with a sign with our names and the hotel name when we landed. Despite the fact that our flight was on time and we waited nearly an hour, no one ever showed up.
After we got there, we had to endure and overwhelming amount of noise from construction going on directly below the room we were staying in for the first few days. We asked for our room to be moved elsewhere in the hotel because of all the banging and sawing going on and the staff did, in fact move us. However, we were still able to hear construction noise in the second room we were moved to - as I imagine one could throughout the hotel, both from the direction of our original room and from construction going on directly across the courtyard from our second room.
Not only did we have to put up with construction noise throughout the trip, the second room’s sink did not drain properly, the toilet did not flush properly and the air conditioning completely broke and started leaking all over our room on our last night there.
When we alerted the staff to the problems we experienced, they were absolutely not helpful and offered only a 10% discount for the last night, claiming we should have done something or said something sooner. The trouble is, we *had* complained earlier the first time and despite being moved, our problems continued. When we complained, we were met with an extremely negative attitude from the front desk staff, and were thus reluctant to raise other concerns, since other issues weren’t addressed well. We attempted unsuccessfully to find other accommodations in Playa del Carmen and the surrounding area throughout our trip.
I am writing in hopes that you will take this information into consideration before considering staying there or recommending Mosquito Blue to your clients.
