La Battigia Hotel

Too far from Castellammare, no taxis, no buses. You MUST RENT A CAR, before you arrive to get a better deal.I rented for 2 days from hotel for €70. Driving is fine on all major roads but towns have narrow streets and any damage can be expensive! Rooms are ok, fairly large with mini bar, check prices 1st. most only have a shower cubicle which is entirely unsuitable with anyone who is tall, broad and with any kind of disability. Staff are friendly and service is fairly good, menu for those on half board limited to one choice, there is no alternative other than the "al a carte" menu. If you are a confirmed carnivore forget it. Location for those wanting to sit on the beach is great, lots of sandy beach and the sea is fairly shallow. However, if you dont have a car the walk to the closest railway station is 2km's, I clocked it in the car, where you can get a bus into Castellammare only when the trains come in and costs €1.50 ea. Train to Palermo not very often, costs €10 ea. and takes 90minutes. If you go into Castellamare there are NO TAXIS, at least 5kms walk back. Be careful of drinks at the hotel, ala carte eating and even water has to be paid for, this can amout to €200 plus for one week. But if you want peace and quiet this might be for you. Trips to the various sites/places are good but tours are expensive €35-45 pp not including entrance fees €6 ea. at Segesta and Selinunte. Palermo worth a visit but don't drive take the train unless you are very experienced with Sicilian driving habits. ERICE is also worth a visit, go on a good clear day and you might want to take a light jacket. My best tip would be to keep a good record of what you have as far as drinks/food/extras so you don't get a shock at checkout and if you are not hiring a car make sure you go for the transfers because through the hotel it will cost €50 each way per couple! Please enjoy your stay as the people of Sicily are friendly, helpful and not out to rip you off.

My husband and I spent a long week end at La Battigia 2 years ago in September. We had such a nice time that this year we are planning to go there again. If you are a couple this is the right place for a romantic holiday.. The hotel is right on a white sandy beach and is not far from Palermo. The hotel is new and rooms are very clean.
