I have just got back from Cuba and want to tell you all about a great Casa particulare in Havana Vieja, run by the lovely Mercedes. If you want to get to know real Cubans and join them in their own houses- this is a great way to do it.
Mercedes speaks English and is very friendly and helpful, if you want to travel the rest of the island as she has contacts ( Remedios and Vinales etc). She can also give you ideas for restuarants and bars. She is particularly good if you are girls travelling on your own (like we were).
The casa is in Havana Vieja, and is an old colonial building with high ceilings, within walking distance to all the major tourist attractions and is very clean and comfortable. Mercedes also puts on a great beakfast (4 CUC) around £3 and an overnight sty in the double or twin room is between 25-30 CUC (approx £15 per person per night)
