All Riviera Resort Hotel

Out of all my years of traveling, this one goes down in the record books as the WORST hotel stay ever. Nothing was right! Lets see- were do I start. When we entered the courtyard we noticed a rather foul aroma- it smelled a bit like raw sewage but we didn't think too much of it at the time. When we checked in at 5pm & were taken to our room which had not been cleaned- we had to wait for for them to clean it even though we had reservations & when we arrived they told us they had been waiting for us. Spent 7 days in Playa (9/3/04 to 9/10/04). We loved it. Stayed at “All Riveria Resort”. I must admit at first impression I wasn’t happy. But we upgraded our room to Room #110 which had 2 large windows, which in turn, turned out great. We did a lot of walking along the beach and by far the All Riv had the best beach. Beach towels are available at the front desk. Very clean and staff very friendly. We did have to walk 2 blocks to the hotel with our luggage, as the street by the hotel was being worked on which wasn’t that big of a deal.... more

Except for our room not being ready until 4:15 on the day we checked in, I have no complaints. The location is ideal - especially if you take the bus from the airport (which I would recommend - only $6!) since the hotel is only a block from the bus terminal. 5th Ave. is a mess right now because they are putting down new paving bricks, but that inconvenience is only temporary. There must a lot of really crazy and picky people out there because none of the concerns I read about the Hotel came true. The TOWELS were just fine!!! I took my own and boy was I peed off when I realized I had taken up tons of room in my luggage for nothing...do take a beach towel though as they do not give you any. Playa del Carmen is great - much better than Cancun, and this Hotel is perfectly located on the beach (my door was 3 feet from the beach) and just off the main strip. Reading the reviews here i get the impression that these are some picky people. we thought the beds were comfortable, the towels looked fine to me and all the bathrooms smell in playa - must be the sewer lines! We enjoyed it immensely and we did read numerous reviews on this website before we left as a good hotel is important. if you are like us - ie feel all inclusives make you stay on the compound and what is the use of travelling far away to stay in a hotel, don't have small kids with you (can't drink water in rooms and might be... more

We stayed Feb 28 - Mar 6, 2004. The hotel is located right on the beach, but other than that everything else was a disappointment. Amenities are minimal to say the least. Not one single day did we get "clean" towels! The towels may have been washed, but every one of the ones we got had a stain of some sort. One day we even got a set that looks like they could have been used as floor mats. Don't expect matching handtowels and washcloths. Stayed at the All Riviera in February 2004, We stayed in Cozumel for 4 nights before heading back to playa. The hotel has an awesome location, the view is spectacular, the staff were VERY impressive! By the second day the front desk knew my name. The proximity to Fifth Avenue is great also. Location couldn't get much better than All Riviera Resort can provide.... First of all, the ocean is as close as it could possibly get. Playa’s renown 5th Avenue is just a few steps up the street which is in walking distance to everything you could ask for: bus station to airport and adventure parks, ferry to Cozumel, gift shops, restaurants, liquor stores, taxi service, car rentals, etc, etc., etc. Beware, though, The All Riv is in a no-parking zone. Wished we had read the reviews for the hotel before we went so that we were aware of the parking problem! We arrived 7pm ish, found the road no problem but couldn't drive down it! Then we had trouble finding the hotel itself, nobody knew where it was, luckily I found a helpful guy on the tourist information desk who helped me find it. Receptionist initially told me they did not have a booking for us but did find it after about 10 mins. I admit I was a bit disappointed upon first arrival. But as soon as I saw the sun and surf, I fell in love. Playa is not Cancun, or even Cozymel, so if you're looking for swank, all-inclusive....go to Playacar or the other "Americanized" cities. This hotel is spotless, new, perfect location on beach, to pier and bus station. Yes you walk 2 blocks from the road, but you're at the beach...how heavy is your suitcase?!? Great service and food. We walked the whole beach and knew we had the best spot.
