Poorly Managed and unsecure...
from A TripAdvisor Member
Pelicanno Inn gives great prices, and rooms are quite big. We took 3 rooms for 5 days, first day nobody was able to tell us when the breakfast started, they kept saying in 20 minutes for almost 2 hours. The woman who cleaned the rooms ask us for a tip the last day, that is supposed to be included in the price. And the worst of all, somebody took money from the 3 rooms, 50$, 20$ and 45$. As we had more money we didn't realize until the last day, we think it was during night when we went out for dinner.
Lots of Potential But Very Poorly Managed
from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel should be one of the best hotels in Playa since it is located right on the beach (midway between the ferry terminals) and only a block away from the great restaurants and shopping on 5th avenue. However, the hotel is very poorly managed and is in a somewhat rundown condition. We had several issues with the hotel during our 3 night stay. We had reserved a downstairs ocean-front category room but were assigned an upstairs ocean-front room (no big deal but not what we reserved). The air conditioner in our room did not cool properly...

17 of us loved Pelicano
from A TripAdvisor Member
We got a wild party of 17 people of various ages,( some single, one family with teenagers) we all loved our stay. The beach is feet away from our beach front room and the surf is audible from our suite. One of our party was honest about having dropped the remote control to the a/c and the management attempted to charge him in excess of 300.00 US. He only spoke english, so my husband who is fluent in spanish got involved and the charge was brought down to around 80.00 US. That was back when the breakfast was included with a week stay,...

Lacking
from A TripAdvisor Member
I just returned from Playa del Carmen for the second time. The only thing that came between a perfect vacation was the hotel. I had requested an ocean view room, which was beautiful. That was the best part of the hotel! Otherwise, the room was supposed to have A/C and a mini-fridge. The A/C was barely working and there was no mini-fridge. After several attempts to get the A/C working, I was moved to a garden-view room on the ground level. The A/C worked great but again, no mini-fridge and I lost the best part of my room...the view....

Nice and inexpensive place on beach
from TravelBugsEB
The positives: It is inexpensive if book through cheapaccomodations. The rooms are always cleaned. The inside courtyard is very nice and green. The location is right on the beach and only steps away from 5th ave which is the main site of action for restaurants and shopping in Playa. The staff is very friendly. The water is crystal clear and the beach to the left in front of the El Faro hotel is great. Restaurants that we really love were the 100% Natural and the best beef in the world on 1st calle and 30th--a must try...

Amazing place
from A TripAdvisor Member
4 of us stayed in a beach front room..this was amazing. No TV but yeck who cares when you have the beach one step outside the front door. The small resturant was clean with good food and coffee. Staff was pleasant and would serve us even thought breakfast was over. Bar was ok .. don't expect a waiter to serve you on the beach. This is a place where you have lunch and drinks in town and go to the beach to sleep it off. Beach at night was ok.. parties would happen along the beach especially at neighboring hotels. But security of the...

Not all is well
from Sofiehans
The hotel is, of course, very well placed right on the beach and is in many ways an ok place to stay. However, beware that in the Northern wing there are two rooms on the 2nd floor that should definitely be avoided. They simply smell awfully; the air is foul and the odour is very disagreeable. The fellow who showed us the rooms first led us into one and, when asked about the air, hastened to explain that the air conditioner would take away the stench! He wanted to demonstrate how, unfortunately, the air conditioner was out of work. It was...

Loved the Pelicano
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I just returned from Playa and stayed at the Pelicano Inn for the first time. This trip was to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, so we were looking for a nice hotel, but on a somewhat limited budget. The Pelicano was fantastic! The hotel is small and old-style Playa, with lots of character and a beautiful little courtyard. Our room was basic but very comfortable, clean, and with cold a/c. It had a wonderful balcony overlooking the courtyard, with the amazing backdrop of the beach and ocean. Jesus, the bartender at the beach...

Very Hospitable
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have been staying at the Pelicano Inn for the past 10 years. Have stayed other places but keep coming back to the very best. Pelicano has had several managers over the past several years, dont know why. The most recent was Antonio Padilla. Very hospitable man and speaks excellent english. He went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. Dont know if he is there this year, but we are booked for 2 weeks and will book next year. I am from South Dakota and my brother also books his vacation at the same time, he is from Oregon. Viva La...

A Gem
from Kenat323
My family (me. my wife and young daughter) have stayed at the Pelicano twice--each time in November, including last Nov. (02). We love it. It's very simple--no TV or phone, local handcrafted furniture, etc. We stayed in the same room both times: an oceanfront airconditioned room with balcony. When we noticed that the hammock wasn't on the balcony as it had been on our first visit, the staff fellow quickly got us one and installed it. The room has a great view of the pristine powder sugar beach and aquamarine sea. Many of the other rooms face...
