Sur Hotel in Cala Bona is a fantastic budget hotel. Run by a very friendly efficient family, this hotel is in a great position. Just a short few yards from the beach and near all hotels and shops. Very clean and towels changed every day.Good food. We will definitely be going back.

Me and my two children age 13 and 9 stayed at Sur for 2weeks. Since its classified as 1 star we were very surprised when we arrived. The hotel was great - our room was cleaned and tidy. The maid cleaned the room 6 days a week. We lived on4th floor great view over the sea.... more

We stayed that this hotel from 17-24 June 2010 half board - on arrival we were shown a warm welcome - room was small very clean and bathroom small clean. Pool clean and a sun trap Lift worked - This hotel has new owners and please dont be put off by previous bad comments... more

we found hotel and staff very friendly ,rooms very clean the towels were changed every day,we were half board only ate in hotel once as the resort was reasonably priced as we run a hotel we know what to expect from hotel standards(you get what you pay for)we will return with the family

We're (me partner and 3 teenage girls!!) in July this year and I've been dreading it cos I know if it's crap I'll be in for it!

My husband and I have just came back from a 7night stay at the Sur hotel Cala Bona. We have been to Cala Bona many times the resort it lovely. We both have trouble with our hearts and on arriving we were told we were on the third floor and the lift was out of order,which we found out later that it had not worked for 8 days previous to our stay that we know of . We had to carry our cases up 6 flights of stairs and needless to say we had to carry them back down at the end of our stay. The food was terrible very little choice, and what there was was all processed. The first night was Stewed Steak or fish fingers, the next night was fish in breadcrumbs or liver. The sweet was ice cream every night and that was it.We ate out after trying it for two nights.The guy who was putting the food out ( not sure if he was the chef) had no manners what so ever if you asked for anything he just grutted and moaned. The coffee in a morning was in a pkt with a thermo jug with hot /warm water . The bar area was filthy the high stools most of them had no seats in them just a cushion placed on the top and the other seats could have done with a good wash. The pool area was a joke 14 beds for a 4 storey hotel ? The pool bar was a dumping ground for old pots of paint and such. The room service, we only had our beds made once in 7 days and after the fourth day had to ask for clean towels which the manager brought up for us, and mind they were the only ones we got. Live music goes on until about 12 or later then it was followed on by a disco. We only used the hotel as a base. I think the hotel might have been OK when it was refurbished in 1989 but it is being run on a shoe string now. I will go back to Cala Bona but never to stay at the Sur. Hope this has been of some help.
Good for young adults from LAS123
We'd read a lot of bad comments before going so were a little worried. However, hotel was better than expected. Basic but clean. The waitresses in the dining area and waiters in the bar were all really lovely. The food was fine, but not much choice. The resort overall was very quiet, Hotel Sur seemed to have the only 'Bar' which unfortunately did stay open until 3am every morning - however, the entertainment provided was good (especially Dave who sang classic rock songs) and we were pleased that the bar was there. Myself and husband, both in our early 30's thought it was fine - probably not so good for the more mature as some nights were a little noisy. We are very used to 4 star hotels but were pleasantly surprised considering it's only a 1 star!

i was just seeing all the reviews about sur and i can tell you this is not true. i had such a good time there. everybody were lovely and my wife, kids and me, we felt like at home. what else you can search for. also good food, good live music, and nice and tidy. visit....

Hotel Sur is a a really great and friendly hotel. We had the time of our life in Cala Bona. The Hotel has only got 1 star but really it offered so much more than we expected. The staff were always smiling and really put attention to us. We were also in the Hotel Sur when the water broke but that was a mistake from the town and the hotel was not responable. All the members of our family agree that we are def. going back there next year. For the price we paid it was absolute a great holiday. The Wallace family

just arrived back from hotel sur cala bona with my wife and four children. this hotel should not even be open. on arrival the pool was absolutely filthy to the point where if you sat on the side you could not see your feet in the water. we had two days during our stay where we had two towels between six of us, there was no pattern as to when the rooms wuld be cleaned you have to keep going o reception to ask for more toilet roll. the food is very poor glad we were only bed and beakfast. finally cleaned the pool two days before the end of our two week stay yet by the time we left it was dirty again. lift broke three days before we left and did not get fixed. on the plus side it is in a good location in the centre of cala bona and close to the beach but if you want nice sands go to cala millor twenty minutes walk. this hotel is suited to somebody who just wants a bed and nothing else dont be fooled by the description it gives itself. can be quite noisey due to the bar beneath music goes on until about 2.00am. resembled fawlty towers.
Terrible place from malman
This hotel can best be described as a long way past its best! The room was clean with clean linen and towels so the chambermaids do a good job which made our stay bearable the rest of the hotel is shabby, the food is really terrible we just had breakfast (thank goodness) which was really basic with little choice (some of the "fresh fruit" in a single bowl was mouldy) the restaurant itself is a very poor environment (in the cellar) and the staff are dressed for the beach and are not friendly, the atmosphere is cool and unwelcoming, the food we had was badly prepared and presented by a "cook" who did not care at all. We had a room above the reception with the bar to the left of us the noise until 2 am was dreadful a nightly dose of karioke with the same tunes sung by the same people (who were the same unfriendly staff) with a DJ who clearly is stuck in one song list and should be retired as soon as possible! The noise rating and lack of sleep opportunity in this hotel cannot be stressed too strongly, this is a very unusual and drab hotel for Cala Bona which is a lovely place (we have stayed there in other hotels on many occasions and been very happy) I would strongly reccomend any potential visitors to avoid this hotel at all costs and if not GOOD LUCK!!

My partner and I stayed here for a week at the end of June. It is very central and is an ideal location for the harbour or the short walk to Cala Millor. We arrived late at night and the friendly night porter directed us to our room. He then informed us that when we were settled, that we were more than welcome to go to the bar for a complimentary drink. We really missed the air conditioning as it gets terribly hot and although sleeping with the patio door open is an option, the hotel has a very loud bar which we were situated right above. Throughout our holiday this was one of the things that ruined our holiday. You can hire fans from reception for about 15 euros with a small deposit, though this really just circulates the hot air. After the first couple of sleepless nights, we were going to ask to be moved to the back of the hotel but after talking to another couple, they had done the same thing and said it was even worse because after the bar closes, everyone goes around the pool drinking and making a load of noise. Breakfast was adequate but basic (this is a bit of a budget hotel), but I can't emphasize this enough, do not bother with half board as the evening meals did not even reach school canteen standards! Sorry boiled potatoes and over cooked vegetables are all you have to look forward to, we ended up going out and paying for our evening meal. The bar itself is nice though be warned, the drink prices were about double that of other bars that we found so shop around. The staff were quite friendly with the one exception of a paticularly poe faced blond girl, who took exception to the night porter offering us a free drink! The owner is very friendly and appears to be very 'hands on'. Another thing to bear in mind, we had an evening flight, so on our 1st day we asked to let our room for the day that we were due to leave. We were told that this should be no problem, but we needed to ask the day before we were due to leave. We did this and were told it still shouldn't be a problem but we would need to ask the morning of our departure. We did this and were told that they were fully booked so we couldn't. They do have a baggage storage room and A shower. This was vastly inadequate as when we came to use the shower there were 5 other people waiting, and by the time we went in there were a further 5 people waiting behing us. Everyone was leaving at different times so there was a bit of panic. The single shower simply isn't adequate for the amount of people that need it. All in all, if you go expecting a budget hotel, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The pool area is very nice and, I think, of a very good standard for a budget hotel. The beach is nice but take your swin shoes as it is very rocky. Hope this helps!

My sister and I first visited the Hotel Sur three years ago when we took our mother to celebrate her fiftieth birthday. We found the hotel to be everything we needed, clean and tidy with helpful staff and a wide range of food. The beach was a mere stroll from the hotel as was the marina with its many bars and restauraunts. We have been back twice since and are booked up to go again in September 2006. I can hardly wait! I would strongly recommend this Hotel to anyone looking for a laid back and relaxing beach holiday. Keep up the good work! CS Ayrshire, Scotland

I stayed at the hotel in july this year \aznd found it very small and quite bad.I didnt enjoy it mucj nd found the pool was very dangerous. As you go in you only have about 1?2metre of shallow and then there is a big drop in to the deep water which is very dangerous for small children. I t also meant my dad who is disabled could not go in and cool off.The first rtime he went in he slipped and hurt his back and ankle down the slope.

The sur hotel is sometimes referred to as The Sur Beach and the internet pics are not as truthful as one would like BUT the hotel whilst being tired in some areas [the carpets in the corridors badly stained and the furnishings very wild colours and a bit grimy] was agood place to be based as centrally located between Cala bona and Cala Millor. We arrived early hours and was shown to a room overlooking the pool area whilst it was cleanish...toilet abit grey and shower curtain not as I would have liked.....it was not as depicted on the net...it was very very small. The night porter though was very helpful and offered an alternative room which must have been one of the refurbished rooms as descibed on internet.215 [217 is supposed to be the best as gives sea view between the opposite hotels!] this was bigger. The hotel does not have air con so hire a fan from reception. We opted for half board and the breakfast was adequate nice selection of rolls cold meats etc but english breakfast cold. The main meal again was nice but repetative buffet style but only melon or ice cream as desserts. I am very particular where I stay and at first was a little wary but the staff made up for the plush decor and I managed it for a week without complaining. A word of warning if you dont like noise this may not be for you as the sur has live entertainment afternoon [4-6 happy hour] and also at night. If you like a siesta or an early night it may not be for you! I would rate it 5/10 a good base hotel.
