I dont usually write reviews of places we've stayed, but feel compelled to in this case by the expansive and unpleasant cottages, and money grabbing attitudes of the owners.
Some friends and I stayed in 'bachwen' and 'the stables' over new year 2008.
These properties are just not set up for a winter rental. But 'The stables' is the by far the worst of the two. It is basically a stone outhouse 'refurbished' with the addition of a small electric heater and some beds.
It was incredibly cold at night, we had to badger the owner to get more heaters in place, and to disconnect the electricity meters to avoid paying through the nose just to be able to be warm enough to sleep (we had already paid £1500 in total for the rental, £600 for the stables, both for a week). The cold stone walls resulted in condensation running down the walls. We had to move everything away from the walls as the bedsheets ended up soaking wet, along with our clothes left on a chair touching the walls.
Then, the pipes froze in the stables. We couldn't get water and the toilet wouldn't flush, as you can imagine, this was disgusting.
We then left 3 days early, after one of our friends with a toddler had already left after they considered the conditions unhealthy for such a young child.
We complained to the owners after this, who claimed that this was just an unfortunate cold 'snap', and that this is how welsh people live, well, not for £1500 a week they dont!
As we left early, they said they would charge us their short week rate for the stables only, and refunded £130 out for the £1500. They wouldn't give us any further refund, as they falsfly claimed that they had offered a full refund when we arrived, and had we taked that they could have rented it out for the full week.
Presumably to people who dont require running water, dry walls, clothes and bedsheets and a tepertaure warm enough to sleep for £1500.
Avoid at all costs.
