The Sol y Mar apartments were well located with the nearest beach only 20metres away.
The hotel staff were polite and helpful. I went with my girlfriend for the week and we self-catered. The lack of a cooker, frying pan, toaster or kettle made it very difficult to cook food in the evenings. We ended up eating out most nights.
The only other downside about the actual apartment was that the maids would enter with a 5second warning of ringing the buzzer. Also, they'd take dirty towels but wouldn't replace them with clean ones. Nor were the bed sheets replaced or cleaned during our one week stay.
Other than that the apartment was great. It was spacious and provided us with a fantastic view of the coast and the sea.
The swimming pool was a necessity with both a small pool for children and a large pool surrounded by sun beds near the bar.
The downside about the bar was that it displays signs for live-entertainment yet there wasn't any during our one week stay during the end of august. Would I recommend Cala Bona? Definitely! Would I recommend the Sol y Mar apartments? Ditto, definitely!
An overall rating of 9/10. The only downsides being the maids, lack of cooking facilities and lack of clean bedding. All of which aren't necessities, just additional bonuses.

All the bad comments are a load of rubbish! I have recently visited the Sol y Mar apartments and they are lovely.
The rooms are perfectly cleaned every two days and new towels every day. The food and drink is delicious and the pool is fantastic. There is a small pool for the younger children and a bigger pool for adults and bigger children. There is a deep end and shallow end to both small pool and large pool!
The staff are very polite and very easy too get along with. There are lots of activities for young children and teenagers and kids clubs for them to make new friends. Me and my children loved our stay so much that we have booked another holiday at the Sol y Mar apartments for later in October.

We were really pleased with the location of the Sol y Mar, our apartment had beautiful sea views and the reception staff were helpful and friendly but they were the only nice things about the apartments.
The bed linen only got changed once in two weeks, we had to keep asking reception for clean towels and the cleaners came in too early. The swimming pool is a danger for children, it is too deep and there were no steps going into it, only has a very steep slant which has a very rough finish, this is also around the edge of the pool and lots of children were getting nasty scratches on their legs, tummies and backs.
The pool is also very shaded with the buildings around it and not a lot of sun beds, so get up early with your towels. The bar downstairs with its so-called entertainment was a joke, there was an Elvis night (Elvis would be turning in his grave).
Also the barman was rude and would snatch the glasses off the tables, we were not made feel welcome, also if you order food be prepared to wait ages. We found two great places to eat. Cheers had playstations, movies, internet, quizzes, bingo and Yates’ had lots of quizzes and bingo. Would we ever go to Cala Bona again YES. Would we ever stay at the Sol Y Mar again NO.

It had lovely, spacious rooms and everything was spotlessly clean as cleaners came between 3 and 6 times a week.
All staff were very helpful and polite and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who was thinking of going to Cala Bona as it was in the main part of the resort. Just across the road there was a supermarket and then the beach.
Also, as you walked up after the beach and then keep walking there was a lovely restaurant called Smithys they did the best meals in the resort. As you can tell I loved the apartments and I am going back next year 2007.
Honestly, I was crying because I didn't want to come home. I could have lived there forever.

The apartments are clean and well kept. The cleaner cleans 3-5 days per week. The cooking facilities are basic with two rings for cooking. A fridge is also provided. You can hire a microwave and kettle if needed.
There is also a safe, which you can hire too. The bathroom has a bath, shower, sink, toilet and bidet. The bedroom had a bed, two bedside cabinets a wardrobe and a closet. Outdoors there is a terrace to each apartment, and a communal swimming pool. The staff are very friendly and are helpful. The beach is across the road and there is also a spar just outside the apartment grounds.
The Royal Crown pub is under the apartments and there is something on every night for people to do, from bingo to karaoke and children’s games and quiz’s. All in all we had a great time, mostly eating out, as it was more convenient.

We have just returned from an excellent stay at the Sol Y Mar.
The apartments were of an excellent standard, clean and spacious. We took our toddler and found the smaller child’s pool to be safe and enclosed and for the greater part of the day sheltered from the strong sun, however this may have had a lot to do with the time of the year that we stayed. The location was central to Cala Bona and Cala Millor situated virtually on the beach. The staff were friendly welcoming and helpful. The resort is for the greater extent flat and therefore is ideal for families with pushchairs and for wheelchair uses. There is a good variety of restaurants and bars catering for all tastes. There is also a good selection of bars with entertainment. The resort is extremely clean and well kept. The weather was very hot for October and it has to be said very humid.
We will definitely return to the Sol Y Mar next year and beyond!

Where do I start? We were travelling with our then 7m old twins and 4 year old and we booked 'blind' through Thomson Direct. Apart from the view of a fully operation building site (now finished) we had several problems.
We had requested ground floor - we were put on the 2nd floor. Access to the lifts was by 4 ramps none of which were wide enough to accommodate a twin buggy! Thomson said they weren’t aware that twins travelled in twin prams! We could not get it in the lift (big enough for 2 peeps only)and so in order that we could actually get out we had to buy 2 single buggies at our own expense!
The cots provided had badly fitting mattresses and one was actually a death trap - Thomson were totally unconcerned.
We had mould around the bath and splash back of sink, a sunken floor tile, the promised electric kettle was an on-hob type which held 2 cups of water and the hob took an age to heat up.
The kiddies pool is situated up a dozen or so steps and there are very steep steps down to an indoor pool area (not for use by guests) so you have to keep a very close eye that your little ones don’t go anywhere near either area.
If travelling with babies & toddlers I would recommend single strollers AND take your own travel cots.

Generally, the hotel is very nice. All inclusive, yet with spacious "self-catering" appartments! The food was plentiful, and the pool area clean.
Bar staff were very slow to serve, and appeared to have little interest in their customers (only with who they were interested in!).
Entertainment was very poor. No profesional entertainment whatsoever. Only the gay cook from the kitchens attempting to do mini-discos without even knowing the routines.
The mini-disco is from 9-10, and the highly excited children are still running wildly around until almost 11. If you are wanting to enjoy a drink in a bar, I would suggest going elsewhere.... unless you enjoy sitting in a loud kindergarten!
Reception staff all very friendly, and helpful.
Could get better for the money.
