We recently visited the hotel to celebrate our anniversary. We would never stay here again.
The public areas of the hotel, admittedly, are wonderfully OTT! The reception area is spectacular, as are the stairwells with indoor fountains and highly extravigent furniture .
HOWEVER the bedrooms are tired and not in keeping with the promise of the public areas; faded duvets and a distinct lack of cleanliness in particular in the bathrooms. The televisons in the first pair of rooms we were given didn't work, so eventually we were moved to another 2 rooms. One room(at the back of the hotel) was far better than the others but still had dark blue plastic coloured mugs in the bathroom, grotty!! The other room was at the front of the hotel overlooking 2 late night, noisy venues. As there is no air conditioning in the hotel we requested a fan. After 4 requests a fan was found and left on the 1st floor landing for us to collect on our way up to our room!! The second room we had at the front had no fan and therefore led to our son getting no sleep due to the noise. Admittedly the hotel can't be held responsible for exernal noise but then maybe fans should be put in every room so windows could be closed?
During this and 2 other trips we have made to Belgium, this was the WORST breakfast I have ever experienced!- despite being the most expensive, (allegedly 3*), hotel we stayed in. Firstly breakfast was only served to 9.30am and the door was physically locked on the DOT of 9.30! We had to ask to be let out of the dining room when we had finished our breakfast at 9.35! All that was available for breakfast was a piece of french bread and a croissant- neither of which were fresh(as they had been left out on plates at the table since the start of breakfast service)plus a slice of processed cheese. We got the feeling we were being served the leftovers of the breakfasts of all those who hadn't managed to get down before the door was bolted the previous day! As a coeliac I can not eat wheat based products and in EVERY other hotel I have stayed in in Belgium (including some really good 2*) there has always been fruit/cheese/cereals/yoghurt available.
The staff weren't openly rude but there was a strong degree of indifference in them. Whenever we approached reception, staff were either on their mobile phones or on the internet! Absolutely zero effort in putting the customer first! We also really resented the persitent "when are you going to pay?" comments. There was also a VERY strong feeling that they wanted cash. Like some other reviews I have since read, we were told the machine wasn't working so could we pay cash.My husband told them that we didn't carry E150 in cash and miraculously the machine was then fixed and we paid by credit card.
The hotel also has no accesible internet connection for guests- despite being told we would have internet when we booked.
There is a lift to each main floor BUT the hotel is such a laberyinth that you still may end up walking up 3 flights of stairs to get to your room.
One to avoid other than going to look at. WAY overpriced and have no idea who gives it a 3* rating
