Great hotel except the lift
from ajgun
The hotel was tidy, the staff were wonderful and the food was great - the only thing wrong was the lift (too small - not a lot of good if you are slightly clastrophobic , arthritic and on the thrid floor) but would recommend it anyway, especially if you are slightly older.
worse than faulty towers
from jonshirl
a very run down hotel not suitable for the under 60s .lifts only large enough for a suitcase, dining room passable but food not so good . .we shall not be returning to this hotel again and as for the all inclusive package -forget it ,
sad person
from kylascotland
my husband and i (both 57 yrs old) stayed at the beresford for a week all inc booked thro shearings. after a 14hr coach journey from scotland the last thing we needed was a washed out downtrodden hotel like the beresford. the lift only held two people at a time and since most of the other guests there were elderly( they called us the kids) we felt obliged to use the stairs all the time. the room was small dark and our only view from the window was a wall. the food was ok and the staff were very helpful and pleasant, but the entertainement at night was outdated, ( old fashioned singalongs and bingo) could be a nice hotel, but needs brought into the 21st century. newquay itself appears to be geared only for young people, surfers, stag and hen nites was not impressed and will not be back
Super Holiday
from happytraveller2932
There was 4 of us with ages from 70 to 77yrs and not having been to Newquay before was pleasantly supprised, unfortunately the weather could have been better. The Shearings organisation was first classfrom Streton back to Streton with only one complaint, the coach drivers first stop was at Sedgeburo on the M5. This entailed approx 3.5 hrs driving without a stop. when he did stop ,he then locked every one out of the coach irrespective of the weather with a large percentage of the travellers complaining. Appart from this the hotel, food, staff etc could not have been better ,with the hotel situated on the promenade. The Majority of holiday makers staying at the hotel was in excess of 50yrs. We would recommend this holiday to any one in this age bracket. " Well Done Shearings"

Just returned from an all inclusive 8 tour with WA Shearings at the Beresford Hotel, Newquay. Before going on hoilday I read the previous comments on this site and left wondering what was in store for me. Needless to say my fears were up lifted before I had got off the coach, when the manager had a short introductory word with us. My family and I had a wonderful time. Our rooms were adequate and clean. The food excellent and so too was the entertainment. The management and staff were very obliging and helpful. Couldn't have wished for a better stay. For future clientele, if you don't enjoy your stay there then you are extremely hard to please. Bye the way our ages 27 -60yrs

Oh dear!

Was slightly put off on arrival to find nowhere to park. Luckily, there is a staff carpark which staff said we could use. Next thing which slightly concerned us was the several wheelchairs in the lobby. We soon confirmed that this is a hotel most suited to elderly and infirm guests. We had requested a room with a bath - ours only had a shower. The only thing the receptionist could suggest was that I take my soap and towel and go to a spare single room (kept for drivers) when wanting a bath. This involved coming downstairs, crossing reception and lounge, and going up other stairs to a separate building. Quite a major operation first thing each morning! And quite entertaining to other guests. The food in the hotel was rather basic and it seemed processed ingredients were used rather than fresh whenever possible. Also tea and coffee in dining room were always 'stewed', even when we came in early, and morning toast was never crisp.
glad to be leaving

hotel in need of refurbishment, rooms dark , lots of noise from doors banging constantly and noise from motor off kitchen equipment. Food average small portions, entertainment needs to be brought up to date, its okay if you are aged 80plus. Newquay town centre boring, now becoming a stag & hen town
Off season break
from Homewright
Just back from a week at the Beresford Hotel in Newquay. Thoroughly enjoyed the break, although the hotel is definitely aimed at the more mature holidaymaker - especially the entertainment. Food was excellent, with a varied choice every day. Staff friendly and helpful. We were on an all-inclusive package which covered full breakfast, lunchtime snack, dinner and drinks from 6pm to 11pm. Hotel was clean and comfortable, albeit somewhat old fashioned. No phones in the rooms which are fairly basic - shower only, no bath. Noisy with seagulls (and some holidaymakers!) from early in the moring - no chance of a long lie here! Few complaints and good value for money.

Stayed at this hotel 08-09-09 till 15-09-09. Great food, staff very helpfull, our coach driver Neil was marvellous, really helped "make" our holiday special. Our bedroom 39 was clean but lacked any view or natural day light as you look out onto a brick wall, the bathroom... more
