" Simply charming "

Staying at the 1811 Georgian Townhouse is a truly wonderful experience when visiting the busy City of London. The hostess is as charming as the property itself which has a distinctive character which takes you back to the opulence of years gone by....
As a hygiene conscious person, I must rate the cleaniless 10 out of 10, attention is obviously given to every detail to ensure a relaxing stay.
I would recommend it to anyone with a truly discerning taste. I always look forward to going back!

" You really couldnt do better than the 1811 "

Did as advised by reviewer and searched for a place to stay minutes walk from Angel tube in a quiet location at an affordable price and found the 1811 Georgian Town House. Nothing like a stay in an ordinary house or even a faceless chain hotel - its a genuine Regency gem. Well run by very helpful and friendly hosts. It's offensive to all readers that a review insulting them has been published. You feel very welcome and well looked after. Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms. And if you want to be further pampered there are luxury spa's around and 5* restaurants. Never been in a Regency house and this place lived up to expectations. Better than the website which cant show the charm of the place and the owners. If you have ever aspired to live as a Jane Austen hero or heroine then this is one way to achieve a dream if only for a few nights.

" Excellent & cheap "

I stayed here for two weeks (actually, this is my last night) and I've been more than satisfied. If you don't mind shared bathroom (yet very nice & clean) and you're looking for a good & quiet neighbourhood in Central London, you won't regret if you go for this townhouse. Given the price, you can't actually get anything substantially better around (I was looking for a place near the company I worked for at a reasonable price). There's nothing I can really criticise: my room was quiet & clean, internet connection was fast & reliable, staff was kind & helpful, and the place was easily accessible (nearest tube station: Angel). I would definitely choose this place again!

" Comfortable, Convenient, Clean "

and relatively cheap. Am a regular with other colleagues on the same professional management course and facing some competition as it's getting popular. Great place nicely furnished and has everything you want if you are studying hard. Tried the Travelodge nearby but dont recommend it doesnt provide the same quiet environment as the 1811 Georgian Townhouse.

Advice: London is expensive but you can seek out London for free.

Activities: Sir John Soan museum, Science Museum, La Porcetta and Strada for Pizza

" 1811 Town House - a superb place to stay "

The 1811 Georgian Town house is exactly as it says on the tin - a Regency property that has been metriculouly restored to English Heritage standards. The property is not only grade II listed outside but so all authentic on the inside and why the 1811 Georgian Town House was selected for my business trip.
Hats off to our host, I'm not the easiest of guests but she responded to every need without being flustered I'm lactose intolerant and vegetarian, dont like man made fibres and had too much to do in too little time. With a gracious and helpful attitude she arranged for me to borrow a lap top, helped me download a huge file for work and even colour printed my papers. This is a high tech house and the broadband is very fast and unfettered. We are not talking about a business centre here but a small guest house so this is really unusual and a life saver for me. After that whilst I was still panicing our perfect host organised a discounted restaurant using Top Table, directions to work and also onward travel maps. If not for the recommendations and help of our host there is no way I would have been able to sleep never mind enjoyed a great meal and a calming walk in an amazing area of London. Clerkenwell (EC1V) has everything from the top restaurants (St John no 12 in the world) some extraordianary architecture and buildings. After arranging such reasonably priced accomodation - (a single room with a home cooked/home baked breakfast was £60) I though I'd splurge on a meal but actually got a great priced meal at Zetters. The food was Italian, modern and very fresh and at 50% off via Toptable good value. Zetters is in Clerkenwell Green so gave me an excuse to sightsee as well check out the Sessions House and St Johns Gate. You can walk around at ease feeling really safe in this area of London.
Feeling thoroughly content with life if not pampered I returned to a spacious double room and spent a comfortable night surrounded by objects d'arte. I was in the front of the house and slept like a log with no noise to distrub in the quiet garden square. Breakfast didnt disappoint either. Whilst still enjoying this well appointed house I had a long dip in a deep claw footed bath and pampered myself with good quality toiletries provided. This house has the wow factor and the attention to detail is amazing. All of this meant I was relaxed and confident in time for my meetings. In my opinion as we as being an excellent place to stay for a business trip I really believe that the 1811 is the place of choice for a romantic weekend and cant wait to return with my partner. This is due to the proximity of theatre (Kings Head, Almeida, Barbican and Sadlers Wells are on the doorstep) but also that you are spolit for choice with top class restaurants on St John Street.
Did I feel at home? Certainly in terms of the welcome of the hosts and the accessibility of the property. Is it like home? Well I dont exactly live in the Ardwick area of Manchester with my mum but nor do I live in a Regency masion in Regents Park. No my surroundings were nothing like home - I should be so lucky !!. ( but maybe one day I'll live in a house this rare and beautiful). The hosts should be commended for maintaining it with such care. Whilst staying I was watched Criminal Justice and the host told me that the house had been selected as a contender for the part of the house of the barrister (the man with the designer house it says on the BBC website).
If I wasnt so selfish I'd suggest the owner restricts guests to 1 or 2 couples and provides an exclusive bathroom for each and thereby enters the luxury market. All the props and quality fittings are already in place. This is nothing like a British traditional B&B it's simply charming. I'm giving this place 5* because that how it was for me and not due to inducements. Have read other reviews and know the majority feel the same. Book early and enjoy a real treat.

Advice: Use Top Table to get a restaurant discount

Activities: Zetters, Clerkenwell Trails

" 1811 Georgian is too much like staying at your own house "

1811 Georgian Guesthouse was an adequate place to stay, but the feel and service was far too laid back for a proper guesthouse or bnb. You felt like you were a houseguest who had just turned up at someone’s house unannounced.
The -staying in someone’s house- feel of 1811 Georgian Townhouse takes away the feeling of being pampered you should feel when you go on holiday. That’s why I find all these reviews on the web saying it’s the best place in London, very strange. I’ve since stayed at the Kandara nearby, which is about the same price, and I much preferred that, because of they have SKY, many more bathrooms and it feels more like a guesthouse. Georgian Townhouse is in a pretty road though.

" Perfect value, stay, and very safe and clean "

I couldn't recommend this enough. Anyone who says anything else obviously is not in their right mind. I needed rest, somewhere safe, and somewhere in central London, and found this character filled Georgian house advertised. It was great, not just the room, which had a TV, and free wifi, but the owners too. They make sure anyone who stays feels part, and I would recommend this to anyone who would like to experience a listed building. It is also very quiet, which was perfect for me.

" Perfect home-from-home stay. "

I stayed here for two nights in July 2009. I found their website when searching for accommodation in Islington, where I was on business. I'm a female solo traveller and was on a rare visit to London from Cornwall. Though I'm sometimes daunted at being there alone, the website made me feel enthusiastic about my visit.
The hosts were so welcoming and helpful; the landlady talked to me about the area and suggested walks and areas where I might eat. Her enthusiasm and reassurance made me feel safe going out in the evening, and though I had anticipated taking food back to the guesthouse kitchen each night, I instead took myself out for dinner both nights and discovered two great restaurants - Medcalf in Exmouth Market and The Banana Tree Canteen not far from the Angel tube station. I also took a walk one morning to Smithfield meat market and St Pauls, both quite nearby. I wouldn’t have done these things without my landlady’s encouragement, and they absolutely made my short trip fun and memorable rather than just business. Breakfasts offered a good choice, including fresh fruit and freshly baked bread. And homemade jam if I recall rightly.
The website states that rates are lower than usual for the area (£50 B&B) due to having a bathroom shared between the four guest rooms. Sharing was no problem. I have often opted for en suites for privacy, but in a small owner-occupied home, I felt I could share. And to be honest, it felt like my own private bathroom anyway - it was completely spotless and fresh every time I used it, and I was surprised to never have to wait for someone else to vacate. It's a big, airy bathroom (choice of deep bath or huge shower) with an automatic fan, so none of the feeling of walking into a steamy just-vacated shower room, either. I know there was a couple and a mother and daughter staying there at the same time as me, so the five of us plus the two owners evidently had plenty of space from each other, as I only met the other guests once each, in the breakfast room.
I loved the house and would definitely stay again. It has character and history, which the owners talk passionately about. It is an old and restored house, and not without its occasional creaking floorboard, but I stayed at the top of the house and was not disturbed at any time by noise (and the bathroom was right under my room). The landlady is considerate enough of guests to offer slippers for use in the house to keep to a minimum any potential noise from shoes on floorboards. I had an extremely comfortable sleep both nights on crisp white cotton bedding. The room was clean and uncluttered, it felt more like a leisure break than a work trip in the end!
I hope I get an excuse to stay here again.

Advice: Research before you go and have places or areas in mind, as there's so much to choose from!

Activities: Exmouth Market, a few minutes walk away - great for a breathtaking choice of eating places

" Home from home "

Stayed 2 weeks at this clean and comfortable grade II listed Regency guest house. This place is run by the most helpful and normal managers ever. They really couldnt be more friendly. Everything spotless from the linen to the bathtub. Even the fussiest of guests would be happy here because nothing was too much trouble. As there was a maximum of 4 guest whilst I was there you get loads of attention. The shared bathrooms were not a problem these were available whenever I needed them. I was aware there was a second toilet and more washing facilities if needed. Also had a choice of a shower bath or walk in shower which were regularly cleaned.
Excellent laundry room in the basement. Relaxing reception/living room with a kitchen off that is kept so tidy. Good place to study as is so quiet. Really pretty location and now even nicer as the Square has been renovated to allow complete accessibility for disabled as part of an EEC grant. The pavements are now finished in old York stone and the corners rounded to allow people to sit and enjoy.
The house is not only beautiful its green and efficient from Euroloo to power shower. Has every mod cons you could name and most of the facilities look brand spanking new. You can be so spoilt you dont even have to make your bed. White fresh smelling linens, goose quilts, choice of pillow and lovely towels. Charming rooms with lovely furniture that is so perfect for the classy feel of the house. My tasteful room was huge with in mahogany furniture and some interesting original art work. The costly antique wilton rug over oak stripped boards was just like going back in time to Jane Austen. You take off your shoes because everything is so clean but the reward is walking on warm smooth antique floor boards and plush thick carpets. At less than £60 per night with a full breakfast for a single in a double room is what I call good value for money in central London.

Advice: Clerkenwell is rich in interesting architecture and well located for access to all parts of the Cit

Activities: Exmouth market has loads of good restaurants

" 1811 Georgian Townhouse Great place for interns "

Stayed there for 8 week internship. Was pretty scared about London but the manager help me. Like being home with mum well looked after. Everything was taken care of (including wake up calls when late for work). Very friendly. I sleep really well there. Laundry service always very good.
Very very clean and nice.
Good breakfast, nice food, good coffee. Good garden with fish pond where you can smoke and relax.
Fast internet. Desk for laptop. Quiet room. Lot of helpful advice. No curfew. No stress. Good pubs, eating places, shops close by. Safe & OK to walk home at night. Close to Farringdon and Angel tube.
Recommended for all interns or first time work experience. Guest house best place for in London the first time. Clerkenwell is the best location for fun, eating and travel.

" Comfortable Clean and Welcoming Guest House "

Stayed for a week at the 1811 Georgian Guest House in Northampton Square. The house was clean and tidy and the welcome was wonderful. The room was well furnished with nice bed linen. The guest house has a maximum of four guest rooms in use, and although it is a shared bathroom this did not detract from the stay at all. In fact the bathroom is luxuriously appointed with a wonderful walk in thermostatically controlled shower.
The location is very quiet despite being close to the Angel Islington which has a vibrant night life. You are within walking distance of the city and the West End and there are lots of bus routes as well as being close enough to use 5 different underground stations (Farringdon, Angel and Barbican are all within 400 yards, Old Street is within 800 yards and Kings Cross is not even a mile away)
Given location the prices are very reasonable and I will be using this Guest House again for any visit to London.
Facilities include both WiFi and wired internet access.

Advice: Lots to see without havng to spend money on transport

Activities: Visit the Jerusalem Tavern for good beer in the oldest pub in London.

" A perfect place to stay "

Ive read the review posted and think the readers should have a more objective and factual review. I have stayed at the guest house many times and have had a wonderful stay.
the owners are helpful with a wealth of local knowledge that they give up their time to share have a wealth. For me it ranged from theatre bookings, restaurant recommendations (Moro yum) and a whole lot of directions. This save me lots of time and money.
The rooms are well appointed and really comfortable. I couldnt have had a better nights sleep. It was like being in a suburb it was so quiet with the sound of church bells not traffic. The square is a cul de sac and probably the quietest central london location I have experienced. The house itself is very quiet and there were desks to allow you to study or read. The owner has some great books. I travel with my laptop so was able to watch the BBC iplayer without problem. When they said fast internet they really meant it. The house is also energy efficient the owner recycles all our waste. It was also squeaky clean, I booked knowing you share bathrooms but each toilet I have ever used is sparkling and always is. The other guests who share are also very considerate. The owner can pick and choose this place is so popular. The owner is so house proud she cook teach Kim and Agie a thing or two. No one should worry about the cleaness of this property. See the website the pictures are accurate. Highly recommended

" 1811 Georgian Town House Northampton Square, London EC1 "

1811 Georgian Town House, Northampton Square, London EC1 is essentially two oddballs renting out tatty, dusty spare rooms in their house. From the unmade beds to the ONE grimy shared bathroom, I urge you to AVOID this ‘hotel’ at all costs. It was horrible.

Advice: London is great. But avoid 1811 Georgian Town House, Northampton Square, London EC1
