An adequate hotel in a excellent relaxing location
from ireland65
Alykanas is a great little town, loads of great restaurants at really cheap prices. Not a place to go if looking for lively night life with only a few bars in the village. Think Laganas is the place to go on zakynthos for nightlife and this is about 20 mins away in taxi. The accommodation itself is basic, advertised as self catering but our cooker could not be used and the fridge wasnt very cold, but with eating out prices so cheap it doesnt really matter. Paid 50 euro for air con on arrival but we had a room which was on the bottom floor so we didnt need it, i would advise spending a while in the room and see if air con is need and if then pay for it. The beach is only a 5min walk but is very small and we just spent most of our time at the hotel pool. The pool at the hotel is of a good size and has a shallow end for kids which slopes down to a depth of shoulder height. Go on the day trip to shipwreck cove. Get to see most of the island and on the trip we went on got stop at a little restaurant built right on the sea on the way back. Overall an adequate hotel in a excellent relaxing location, the Alykanas Beach Aparthotel is right next door and opens out onto the beach so might be a better option for accommodation as it looks nicer from the outside anyway...
Good Hotel
from Honeylloyd
Just returned from a one week holiday at the Letsos. We found the hotel good and the staff friendly and helpful. Our room spacious and we had a nice view of the sea. The room was cleaned all but the day we arrived and the day we left. The bathroom was sufficient although the shower cubicle a little small. The lads who worked in the bar were cheerful and friendly. The pool area was clean and well maintained. The resort itself is fab, ideal for families and couples but with bars staying open late for those who wanted it. I would return to Alykanas and to the Letsos. In fact the Letsos is ideally placed for access to the shops, bars and tavernas and the beach, being only a short 5 mins walk. Can't wait to return.
Cant believe its a 3 star.... what a smell.

When we arrived we were greeted with a cheery handshake and smile. This is where the customer service ended. We were lucky enough to be housed a short walk away in the new part. It was spacious but a little dark. Our friends and family were not so lucky. They had to endure the cesspit smelling lift to get to their tired and dangerous room. They had broken locks on the doors, a gaping hole in the bathroom floor where the drain cover should have been and no TV. The problems they had were: no hot water... at all the whole holiday. They ahd 2 sheets for 2 adults and 2 children. The sheets were never changed, the room was rarely cleaned, normally the cleaning included the dirty sheets being folded. The bathroom was never cleaned. The problems could have been forgiven. The poor response and bellowing and rude manager cannot. He was abrupt, unintersted and rude. He often ignored you standing there and when you complained or raised a query he started shouting and saying that it wasnt his problem!! He demanded my friends to do the maintenance themselves if they werent happy! It took my 18 month old niece to slip and fall in the bathroom where the gaping hole was, and my sister in-law to bruise herself badly and catch her before anything was done. The Letsos needs a facelift and fast. The managers need to be replaced with the kind, friendly and very likeable sons and nephews who work in the bar. Its a shame that we had a bad experience as the location was great. If you have children or anyone who wants to get excited and run around the pool area.... dont go here. its a death trap. The cesspit smell alone would prevent me from returning to this place.
never again

We have just returned after a two week holiday in Alykanas. We stayed at the letsos hotel. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady, who issued us the room keys.On first appearances the hotel, its pool and reception looked very good. ( but how looks can be deceiving ). We had booked a family room to sleep four, having two children aged 6 and 3. The room was split level with stairs that were nearly vertical, it was difficult for adults to negotiate, never mind the children. On the lower level both sets of sliding doors didn't lock and after recent events made it very worrying indeed. After politely going to reception to ask about getting the room sorted out. I came across the most miserable greek man i have ever met, who's response to the fault were he was too busy and may sort them out later. Later came ,and the following day ,after going through the faults with the rep some were sorted out. The rooms are generally very very basic ,grubby unless you are lucky enough to get in the brand new block, however these mainly are occupied by greeks. ( A little tip air con can be turned on manually) or can be paid for, for 50 euros a week. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Nice renovations to pool areas and lower floor
from blackcabbie
Hotel Letsos in Alykaknas has a good location close to shops restaurants and bars. Five mins flat easy walk to the best beach on the island. Beach sandy and clean. Water clear. Beds and brollies avaliable for 6 euros. Also many water sports (though over priced). The hotel is having more building work done but this doesn't affect guests in any way. Air conditioning is available in modernised rooms for an extra cost per day. However some guests were given wrong controllers for several days and couldn't get a refund. Some lower floor rooms experienced drainage problems some even had sewage flooding through the bathroom floor tiles and into the corridor. These guests were forced to change rooms. The problems were dealt with as quickly as is possible (in Greece) but the smell remained afterwards in the corridor The family owners were always keen to please. Without the drainage problems our stay would have been excellent. Perhaps these were just early teething problems after the renovations but probably typical meditereanian drains that have not been and should have been improved. The hotel has a beautiful new pool, lounge area and bar. Dining room is also new but we didn't eat there. Good places to eat out are (at the beach at Alykanas Beach hotel) and along the main street Apollo and Dionisos restaurants and for breakfast - Busters full English Mm Mm Really liked the area and the people and would come back, probably to Alykanas Beach Hotel if possible

We arrived at the hotel mid afternoon and was greeted by nice people. They were friendly and funny; they laughed a lot. We went to our rooms. If you have a split level room, the stairs go over the kitchennette and when you boil the kettle your feet get steamed as you climb the stairs. This is a dangerous setup. However, all the rooms have a good view, many having a side sea view. The rooms are spacious and clean. In the first apartment my grandma went in the toilet leaked, but they moved her without cost or argument. The hotel is also facilitated with a pool which is very nice. There are lots of sunbed room; and the bar is shelted and near the pool, which is very handy when its hot.The hotel is close to Alikanas, which is a pretty little village. There are a good selection of restaurants, and the beach is only a few minutes walk from the hotel. The only big problem with the hotel is that in peak season, there isn't a lot of hot water, and on normal days the water is only switched on for a few hours a day. This is no problem though; as it is on at the important times of day. On exit, the owners were still very friendly. It was a good holiday.
Basic and noisy
from whiskysplits
When we arrived at the Letsos we were not greeted but spoken to like naughty school children by who I presumed to be the eldest daughter of the owners, she was behind the reception with her equally grumpy father who never smiled or even spoke. She was abrupt and made us feel like a real nuisance to be arriving at her hotel. We were asked if we wanted Air Con and told if we didn't we would be put in a room without a unit so we wouldn't be able to change our mind. It was very expensive (100 euros for the fortnight plus 10 euros deposit for the remote). The room was basic and not particularly clean but passable. There was no kettle so we boiled our water in a sauce pan for tea and coffee, the Air con was noisy and a trip switch on the balcony door controlled it, this kept falling off as it was only stuck on with blue tack! The shower was cold on our arrival but this only happened once. The shower itself was tiny, my advice is don't drop the soap because you won't be able to pick it up unless you step out of the cubicle because you cant bend over in it!! The pool area was dirty , there were cigarette ends all over the floor as there were no ash trays available, however the pool was lovely and apparently the biggest in Alykanas resort. The son , Dennis, was very sociable and mixes wicked cocktails and his Mum was very friendly and always laughing. (At least someone made the effort!) Consequently we spent very little time at the hotel and soon found out that we could use the facilities of the other Kosmar hotels in the resort. We spent our days at the Alykanas Beach Hotel using their pool and sunbeds, this place was first class the only pain was the "Good Morning!" welcome from the entertainment staff and the annoying "Shonke Shonke" song that seemed to go on for ever. Next door to this hotel was the Ammos bar, I recommend lunch at this place it was excellent (long waits though). The best restaraunt in Alykanas for Dinner was "La Carretta" They have a very charming guy who beckons you in and if you remain loyal and keep going back there, there are freebies to had, like a free pitcher of wine or even after dinner liquers!! Andreas, one of the waiters, wears gorgeous after shave by the way!!. I really can't say "don't stay at the Letsos" for what we paid for our 2 weeks (£538 for the two of us) I can't complain but if you are looking for something a bit more classy I would recommend the Alykanas Beach Hotel.
A miserable hotel in a decent resort
from pgwBournemouth
Alykanas is a decent place, but the Letsos is a place to avoid. As other reviewers have said, the owners are miserable and resentful - certainly of those who are renting self-catering/studio accommodation. (My guess is that they are all smiles to passing trade and those who are on half-board - but then again, maybe not). The guy in reception is horrible - he barks and grunts at you, at best. On arrival (6am, after overnight travel) we were shouted at, given a crap room, and quickly realised the only way we were going to get a decent room was to pay the exorbitant air-conditioning charges (the room we were in did not have a unit, and effectively, the choice to have a/c or not was taken away from us - if you want anything approaching a decent room, my guess is you have to cough up this extra charge . . . ) In addition to this, the guy tried every trick in the book (delaying tactics, 'you-come-back-later' etc) to not refund the 10 euro deposit for the a/c remote control. We left at 3am, when no-one was on reception - and they trusted us to leave the room key behind the desk, but for some reason we could not be trusted to do the same for this remote (and quite why they think we would be so attached to it we would walk off with it, I'm not sure). Eventually, I got the 10 note returned - tossed at me across the reception. The whole thing was a needless and pigheaded palaver that characterised the hotelier's attitude throughout our stay. My advice to him is to stay out of the way, and employ someone with some social skills to do front-of-house for him. Aside from all this, the Letsos is basic at best. The cooking rings were greasy, and the table on the balcony was sticky (hello cleaners?!). The resort is pretty decent, with plenty of eateries and bars. And the local scenery is great. Find somewhere else to stay though - it is not worth the hassle. (Several other people we met on our stay had to move rooms because of smells, damaged/unfinished decor or just plain poor rooms - one couple I know of even moved to another resort because they were so hacked off with Mr Letsos). All in all, a very poor accommodation in a nice enough resort.
Aka Hotel Letdown
from Mrsfoley
We stayed in a split level room NOT suitable for little ones as the staircase was so steep plus the aircon did not reach up their so kids ended up on our floor on mattresses. Room was clean but smelly, towels and sheets were grey and holey. Walls were very thin so you could hear everyword sneeze and cough from your nieghbours! Its family run but we found them very unfriendly although by the second week they could grunt or smile the odd hello! Not at all like most greeks we have met over the years! However, the resort of Alikanas was very friendly and children were welcomed most places!!!
What A Nightmare
from rdpn
We had booked a double room, but it turned out to a split level room where our 3 year was up at the top of the room and us down below, not much privacy, at all with walls that weren't finished. the brick came up half way and the rest of it was pine board, we could hear every word from next door. The bathrooms were smelly, we had birds nesting above the balcony and they pooed every morning so we would have to wash and sweep the balcony before going out, as the cleaners did'nt seem to notice the mess. The worst part of the place was by far the owners. There were moody, unapproachable and when we had two light bulbs go, we had real trouble getting them to change them, and then he would only change one of them. I think the Letsos family have definately had their day with tourists. They seem resentful at the very sight of you, by the end of the week we would take the back door entrance just to avoid them as they all just sit and watch very loud T.V all day in the front entrance In a nut shell don't go to Hotel Letsos we were very disappointed.
stayed at the letsos for 2 weeks 7/7/11but had to come home after 1 week as the noise from the jammin and dna bars was horrendous. we were in room 9 above the pool bar the noise went on every night till at least 4 am every night and then we had to put up with shouting till... more
