Submitted By: pascallThe hotel caters for the children with meals and even have a lower buffet bar so children can be independent on obtaining there own meals.
Evening entertainment is provided, along with bingo and mini discos. My daughter and myself enjoyed it that much, that we had only been back home an hour when we decided to go back to thompson and book for 2009. Definately a holiday not to be missed.
Advice: definately worth a visit.
Activities: well worth a visit to marineland
Good for: Beach

Right opposite the beach with Bus Stop just outside the hotel.Fun Bike hire also available at 20 euros an hour for and 8 seater. There is a local market on Fridays just outside the hotel. Can Picafort main town is about 45 min walk along the sea wall. Alcudia is about half an hour by bus which do get packed abit like a cattle truck. Found an excellent English Bar Called 'Anne And Neils'that actually served a proper English cup of Tea and a Free biscuit also served the best Bacon and Sausages of the holiday.
ACCOMODATION.
Twin room and a Family room 5 adjacent room both with sea veiw although the family room was in the corner of the hotel and balcony could not seat more than two people. No T.V but apparently one could be rented from reception. Our room did have a fridge, but we did pre book and pay for it before we left England. All rooms have a safe which we paid about 35 euros for the two weeks.
FOOD.
The desserts were gorgeous, but the dinners left alot to be desired. hardly any potatoes or vegetables, However the hotel did attempt a couple of Roast dinners. The Kids buffet consisted of the same food each night Nuggets, Burgers, Chips and Pasta Spagetti.
COMMUNAL AREAS
Reception,Bar, Toilets etc were all kept very clean and tidy. The Swimming Pool and Terraces areas were also tidy and clean.
HOTEL STAFF.
Were very helpful, friendly and cheerful epsecially the waiters, Manwell and Segas were great and understood and spoke good English.
OUTSIDE ENTERTAINMENT.
Was generally good especially Liam Live, Arnold Guttbucket,Kool and the Gang, However the Parrot Show and Reptile show was rubbish.
THOMSON STAFF.
The reps were rubbish they didnt have a clue you might have thought it was the begining of the season, they did the minidisco dances but appart from that the Kids Club left alot to be desired and didn't seem at all organised.Gill the Head Rep [some might call her] appeared for about 2 hours a day to oversee a game of water polo if it wasn't too cold and when it rained she organised a game of FREE bingo and a quiz for about 2 hours in the bar in the afternoon. Evening entertainment consisted of Minidisco, Bingo, Caberet, Minidisco again and music off by 11.30pm. Gill reminded me of a Working Mans Club host I think maybe this hotel is the place where all the Reps start their training.[Well thats what I would hope]
TRIPS;
Only booked one Thomson Trip to the Marineland which was very expensive for what it entailed however the kids enjoyed the Seal lion show, the Dolphin show could have been better, apparently they had been playing up over the last couple of days. Trip included food vouchers but of course more money had to be added to the vouchers. Hotel arranged Horse Riding which was good for both riders and non riders providing you are confident as the horses do like to trott more than walk at about 20 euros for an hour.
OVERALL.
I wouldn't recommend the Hotel Son Baulo to Families as there is virtually nothing for children to do apart from a games room with one pool table and a T.V, internet, a very small climbing frame, and an outside Table Tennis table.
I would recomend to older couples who like to relax and who like to watch not join in with the evening entertainment.
So Although the hotel was not as expected our holiday was enjoyable even though the weather was not great. Unfortunately we will not be returning to the Hotel Son Baulo.

" This Hotel is so good !
Although the building is 40 years old this year, you would think it was actually much newer because of the way it has been looked after over the years. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the corridors, hallways, bars, restarants, TV rooms, quiet areas, pool areas were of the same standard.
The Hotel staff were very helpful, probably the best I have come across in 30 years of foreign holidays. Their spoken english was excellent.
We stayed Half board and found the food to be of a very high standard, breakfast and evening meals of every style were available. Lunch time snacks from the Bar areas were very good value for a change. Our kids found the food to their liking as well ( one being a fussy vegetarian ! ). I have to say it again, the food is great, if you stay at the hotel, you are probably going to pile on some pounds !!!
The only downside ( the factor preventing me from giving the hotel 10/10 ) was the poor quality of the Thompson reps. They forgot to book our hire car ( but did sort us out in the end ) and also were less than helpful in assisting my wife in finding the local tennis club, which turned out to be a 10 minute walk up the road. However we don't let this sort of thing spoil our holiday !
On the other hand, the reps seemed to work well in the kids club and disco so it isn't all bad news !
I would agree with other reveiws in that this hotel does not suit older teenagers and noisy groups. And because of that reason it suits families, couples, and people of a quieter nature !
We would return to this hotel if we were going to stay in Majorca again.

Submitted By: Mrs P HippouteWhat a fantastic holiday I here in the Son Baulo! On arrival I had a problem with my room it was facing the busy road and i could not sleep but after speaking to the Thomson reps i was moved and in a SEA VEIW room it was gorgeous!
Make sure you check out scandals bar hmmmmm very tasty and not too expensive either!
The hotel has a kids club too which was great for me traveling with a family it gave me and my husband some me time
The kids reps were great but my hat goes off to the Thomson reps, we actually got rather friendly with them Melisa and Rebecca they both were fantastic, thanks again ladies for the room change and thank you to Melisa for eveything she did for us.
Quite a few people complained about the beach being full of seaweed??? excuse me but its a beach? isent that what is supposed to be there? some people complain over the stupidest things!
Please dont be put off by the horrible reviews on here! i swear half of these people have not even travelled here!
Wish it was me going

Submitted By: Mrs L BillThe hotel is right on the sandy beach. It has a medium size pool with lots of free sunbeds and parasols, and a small Childrens pool.
The hotel rooms are quite large and cleaned daily and with fresh towels. you can pay extra for a fridge and T.V in your room, but we found that you could easliy watch the T.V either in the adult only quite room or the kids room.
The food was great, a different menu each day. Breakfast started at 7am to 10.15 ( at 10am the staff all came in to have there breakfast.) In the evening there was a spanish dish, a veggie dish and a british dish every day. There was also a kids menu, but you could pick and mix what ever you wanted so they did'nt have to have burgers or chicken nuggets. You could take as much or little as you wanted, some people piled their plates up high and left loads some ate the lot!!! The deserts were fantastic.
There is a kids club but it's really for the young kids, and the kids disco is very repetative every night. We did'nt find anything organised for the 12+. Sometimes the water volley ball was only for adults or canceled. The pool table in the kids room cost 2Euros and internet 1e for 10 mins but go to Stevie boys or Shannagons 2 min walk away 1e pool table or 30 mins internet. And the drinks were cheaper too.
The hotel organise Horse riding for 20e 1 hr ride which was great value and fun and go karting 12e for kids, 18e adults, for both activeitys you are collected and returned to the hotel for free. These can be arranged at the recepion desk with the very nice ladies.
You can also have your washing done too, (5euros) just see the hairdresser.
The only Thompson rep we saw was Stewart, he was great, but the others were never around.

Submitted By: Mr P J BastianiFood is of a good standard and varied with superb puddings!! Staff work very hard to serve you and seem a cheerful bunch.Rooms are perfectly adequate and clean ...we had a room overlooking the nature reserve, therefore quiet with lovely views but I understand that rooms overlooking the road can get some noise.
All in all a quiet hotel which is a good distance away from the more brash parts further along the coast.Guests seemed to be nearly 100% British and all staff have good English!!

Submitted By: Mrs L J DixonMy child is nine and made some great friends, the pool area was kept clean and plenty of sunbeds as most people like to go to the beach.
There is no TV in the room, but there is a childrens area with a wide screen tele and an adult area where children can not to go, which is great. The rooms are basic, but we did not spend much time in it. (no tea or coffee facilities)
It is about a 20 min walk to the town which is along the beach with plenty of shops and bars.
I would return to the hotel.

The service at the hotel is second to none. Couldn't fault anyone, but could sing praises of many especially the reception staff. There is an atmosphere of a happy workforce.
The pool is fine with a reasonably priced pool cafe/restaurant, but with the sea as warm as a bath and perfect safe bathing for all, spent little time there. There are free sunloungers there too.
The beach is pleasant, 2 sunbeds and an umbrella available at 8.5 Euro for the whole day, but there is room to site your own umbrella and enjoy the captivating joys of Mediterranean bathing.
Back to the hotel and food - half board fare is fantastic value and the range and quality of food, especially for a 3 star is exceptional with lots of healthy and fresh options. Eating out locally is good too. We had the occasional lunch out and if, like, us you are on a budget fresh sardines and salad come in at 6 Euro and there is always a reasonably priced sandwich on offer or the standard spaghetti or burgers. ++ The lady in the hut opposite does excellent XXL bratwurst in a roll for 3.50Euro.
Entertainment is not our thing but there was a good range of shows that started at 9:45pm each evening which was too late for us as our boy needed to be in bed. The mini-disco and the bingo aren't what we're into so didn't sit around for that, but we did play pool and air hockey at the hotel a couple of times.
In terms of general location, it's a brilliant base. There are buses to Alcudia, Puerto Pollensa which is pretty (and you can take an onward bus or walk to Pollensa which is lovely)and Porto Cristo and the Caves of Drach and various other places. The local market is on a Friday and is fantastic value for shoes and bags and good for summer clothes especially trendy large sized ladies clothes so don't stock up before you go.
The Son Baulo isn't for snobs but it caters for all down to earth people whatever their tastes. If you're looking for glitz and glamour, it's not for you, but a clean ,pleasant and homely environment with comforts met - highly, highly recommend it.
Advice: Son Baulo is a world away from Can Picafort being unspoilt, sedate with nature reserve & fab beach
Activities: Pollensa, Caves of Drach, Alcudia, Walking in Son Real and Torrent Son Baulo
Good for: Beach
