Hotel Son Baulo
, Can PicafortHotel Son Baulo Reviews
This was our second time, previously visited in September 2009 and the same as last time, we had such a good time. The Son Baulo is a very good 3 stars hotel in a superb location, the beach is one step away, with a very good service, food and entertainment at an affordable price.
We had a nice room with a double bed and 2 very comfortable single beds, nicely decorated. It seems to have been recently refurbished, double glazed windows, nice bathroom, flat screen TV and lovely air cond. Everything spotlessly clean. We requested a non smoking room at the time of booking, and we got it. Restaurant is also very clean and service is very good, all waiters were efficient and friendly. About the food, I felt that some of the comments were unjustified, breakfast selection was very good, fruits, cereals, meats, eggs, bacon, cheese, a range of teas, pastries….Both breakfast and dinner are of a high standard, and we always found the choice to be of more than acceptable. And we have travelled extensively and are not easily pleased. Very good service from restaurant staff. At lunch, 2 bars serve burgers, omelettes, chicken filets, salads, bagettes, sandwiches.
The rest of the hotel was also very clean, pool area never crowded, and gets the sun all day long. Plenty of sun beds, never had a problem finding one.
There is games room with TV, machines and pool tables for children, which we thought is was very good idea as this room is near the main area when entertainment is hold, so children can go there after the mini disco. We never ventured there, as our children loved the shows.
The walk from the hotel along the sea front it takes you to the resort centre and is a lovely, easy flat walk of about 20 minutes. The beach and the sea were wonderful.

we stayed here for 2 weeks and had to move rooms twice . couldn't get to sleep in first room due to generater noise every 7 mins' room 219 'room was also smelly.after a week of complaining we were moved to another room which was ok' unfortunatly we were given 6 hrs notice prior to last day saying we had to move out even though we had payed extra for late check out room. we were moved to room 119 which was under our ist room. this room was just as noisy and even more smelly. looking from the balconey of our 2nd room there never appeared to be anyone stayed long in these 2 rooms and im not surprised .worst rooms we have staayed in for a very long time. wouldnt go back there .staff in restaurant & bars & entertainment were top class.
- Advice: have a stiff drink & go to bed with tv on to drown noise if you're in 119 or 219

we have just come back from a week at this lovely hotel, and we did have a great time. the hotel itself was spotless-very well maintained and clean. rooms were cleaned daily, and the hotel itself was very well kept. you hardly saw any of the cleaners around-it bugs me when they are cleaning around you during the day, i think it makes you feel as though you are in the way! the staff were absolutely fabulous-must put out a special hello here to debbie and wayne(restaurant and reception) who were so helpful and lovely-and who, we found out, used to live just streets away from us before they came to work at the hotel! Gill, the entertainments manager, was brilliant-she was esprcially good with the kids. we went as a couple but from watching her with the little ones you could tell they all just adored her.the entertainment was ok-dpends on the sort of thing you like, but there was something different every night-they even do a quiz where you can win a free weeks holiday at the hotel next year! soooo wish we had won it!!! and watch out for the mad waiter, manuel-that guy should so be on the entertainments team, he's a natural.there are shops just over the road, about a dozen, but if you want the main strip, it's either a long walk, or the bus, or in our case the chugga chugga-the little resort train. the only thing i wasn't too thrilled about was the lack of variety in the food. there just wasn't enough choice in my opinion-maybe i have been spoiled by previous, larger hotels, but i struggled some nights to find a meal i wanted-and believe me, i am certainly not a fussy eater! i felt sorry for those with kids, as there was only one "children's" option per night-i feel they would have been better having one of the smaller stations just for children with the usual sausage, nuggets etc every evening. that was the only thing that let it down for me-other than that, we totally loved it
- Advice: the market on friday is brilliant, and it is right next to the hotel

Just returned from a very relaxing week at the Son Baulo, myself and my husband booked only the week before travelling and were looking for a value for money holiday which fitted in with our dates.
The hotels location was good for us as we appreciate a quieter resort and are too old for 'clubbing' every night. Beachfront position and we had a seaview! We were told our room was 'superior' but we were a little disappointed in the lack of facilities (tea, cofffee, kettle, complimentary toiletries etc), we considered decor and furnishings a little tired and were more what we would have expected from a standard room. However this said it was roomy, extremely clean and well serviced daily.
There was no information in the room which is normally provided, about mealtimes, sunbed hire on the beech, safe deposit facilities etc and this would have been most helpful. The staff however were alwasy happy to help and we found the reps around most of the time during the day.
The evening entertainment started too late for us and the 'kids disco' and 'bingo' every night were definately not our cup of tea.
The standard of food was excellent and we enjoyed every meal, especially the puddings, also excellent, prompt and friendly service from all the bar staff. Prices were not too unreasonable.
Overall we would recommend the hotel to others but would probably not pick this type of holiday had it been our main one, but nevertheless we think we had an excellent deal for a late break

It may not be the trendiest place, but its position and staff makes it unbeatable.
There was nothing about the holidays we were unhappy with,we could not have asked for more.
The hotel is excellent, and away from the busier part of the resort.
The restaurant provided food for all tastes including dishes for the children to choose their own if they wanted, and for vegetarians. Even a fussy eater like myself had more than enough to eat
Rooms are a good size with centrally controlled air conditioning, cleaned and fresh towels daily. It is well worth paying a bit extra and getting a sea view or pool view. Bathrooms are also a good size with an excellent powerful shower.
Nice gestures like having a free baggage room, and a courtesy room for late leavers.
Overall is an excellent place, an ideal spot for locación, right on beach, pool, shops, etc.In 20 years of foreign travel this is one of the few hotels I would recommend to anyone. We have already booked for June .

The hotel is on a lovely sandy beach, there is only on step from the hotel terrace to the beach. We travelled a famiy of 7 including 3 young children, and my parents, we have a very big room interconnected with my parents room, so perfect. We all enjoyed the food and the entertainment. The beach is very safe, the water clean and warm

Please let me share with you, mine and my family`s joys of staying at the Hotel Son Baulo,Ca`n Picafort,Majorca. We discovered the Son Baulo purely by chance in 1981 when my family were quite young and we were looking for somewhere suitable and safe for our daughter and son on our first holiday abroad.Little did I realise that the Son Baulo has the best beach position in Ca`n Picafort and probably one of the best in Majorca,no roador even footpath in front of the hotel, simply walk out of the hotel on to the terrace, then on to the beachand into the sea.the beach is large and the sea is monitored by lifeguards in season. The Hotel is run by a Majorcan family who are very down to earth, friendlyand caring,as are all their staff who return to the hotel every season,in fact there arestill several staff members present who worked there on our first visit in 1981. The hotel offers all the usual things most good hotels do,good food and drinks, good entertainment with clean and comfortable air conditioned rooms but they are delivered in a way that makes you believethat anything is possible and nothing is too much trouble. We did try somewhere different in Majorca in 1982 but were so disappointed that we have returned to the Son Baulo every year since, including a fantastic 50th birthday holiday and a 60th birthday holiday when not only did my daughter and son come along, but also my grand-daughter and grandson. We have visited many different places including France,Germany and Malta and enjoyed each one very muchbut we always return to the Son Baulo, our little piece of heaven in Ca`n Picafort Majorca. We are now looking forward to our 30th aniversary of visits to the hotel, next year.

The Son Baulo - well what can i say, it is absolutely in a beautiful position with the beach a few feet away. We stayed by the patio on sunbeds as the cost of 2 with a parasol woudl be 8.50 Euro per day. The staff at the hotel are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble for them. We went in June and did not see any teenagers (brilliant). A nice drinking place is about 1 min from the hotel, turn left then right and Crazy Horse is on the right, Pedro is lovely and his wife, on the 2nd visit you are called 'my friend' and the beer is 1.50 Euro a pint, fosters is 2 Eur. this hotel was in a very quite location and 15 mins from the harbour, the walk up to this was gorgeous with seats plentiful to stop and have a rest and look at the sea. Buses are good and cheap, went to Puerto Pollensa for just over 2 euros and they are every 15mins. So much to do and see, the old town of Alcudia is lovely although my husband would have liked to explore more but it was raining so he never got to see too much but the market was to die for - you have to barter though and i loved it, got some really good bargains. We am looking for another place to stay and explore at the end of August but not sure where yet. We will certainly return to the Son Baulo probaly next June again. We upgraded our room to a Superior with a sea view which was to die for and well worth the money. The room was beautiful, very clean with a fridge in and kettle and TV. The beds were comfy in fact the best beds i have stayed in and actually got some sleep. the pillows were good as well, quite firm.
The food was brilliant, even the roast we had on a Wed was to for (yes even the yorkshire pud. We used to eat around 8.45pm ish and food still fairly hot although not boiling, the soup was gorgeous. Had a heart attack breakfast for 3 days then tried a ham & cheese omellet which was absolute huge. the fried eggss and omellets are cooked to order and hardly any waiting time involved. Brilliant holiday, thanks to Son Baulo staff and look forward to seeing you all next year.
Overall the holiday we could not fault, towels are not allowed to be put out on the sunbeds, if they are and no-one is with them then they are removed.

We spend one week end in the Son Baulo. We booked an offer for a Romantic week end. The hotel is outstanding in all areas. The hotel is very well kept. All staff were friendly and helpful at all times. We cannot find a single negative thing to say about the hotel, we have had a truly memorable holiday in mallorca and I am sure I will be back and we do not hesitate to recommend the hotel.
The hotel is a good base, quiet but can go into resort if you want nights busier.
We are now on our way to the airport, we have decided to leave earlier and stop in some of the villages. We recommend a visit to Muro, only 10 minutes from Can Picafort, today, sunday there is a market, the village is very lively with plenty of cafeterias serving beautiful traditional sweets, you can even find an internet cafe.

The staff are and the place was maintained very clean. We are young family with an infant and we had all the things we needed for a good relaxing nice and comfortable holiday in the sun. The rooms are really good size, the beds were very good too. There was TV, and fridge (for an smallm charge) but no kettle in the room. We asked for a kettle to boil water for the baby’s milk and for sterilising the bottles - it was provided without a charge straight away. The airconditioning did help a lot as it get really warm during the day and in the evening. In short, we recommend the Son Baulo hotel and we loved our stay there.
It’s good if you have a hire car as you can visit a lot of places around the island - everything seems to be in less than an hour drive, no matter which direction you go. We recommend to visit Cap de Formentor and the Formentor beach resort (amazing!), Port d’Alcudia, Port de Pollenca, Arta, Safari Zoo, Palma de Majorca. If you don’t have a car with you the local buses should do the job too.

We are two adults and an 8 year old and landed lucky with this well-loved and excellently cared for hotel which is superbly situated on a beautiful blue flag beach, abutting a totally unspoilt nature reserved boasting significant archaelogical ruins dating back to 800bc. We had a family room which was tasteful and clean. No TV or kettle or hairdryer, but it had a fridge and more than adequate bath/shower-room with hair and body wash provided. Our balcony overlooked the sea and mountains and the edge of the nature reserve and the interior garden of the hotel (which is fine, but nothing special).
The service at the hotel is second to none. Couldn't fault anyone, but could sing praises of many especially the reception staff. There is an atmosphere of a happy workforce.
The pool is fine with a reasonably priced pool cafe/restaurant, but with the sea as warm as a bath and perfect safe bathing for all, spent little time there. There are free sunloungers there too.
The beach is pleasant, 2 sunbeds and an umbrella available at 8.5 Euro for the whole day, but there is room to site your own umbrella and enjoy the captivating joys of Mediterranean bathing.
Back to the hotel and food - half board fare is fantastic value and the range and quality of food, especially for a 3 star is exceptional with lots of healthy and fresh options. Eating out locally is good too. We had the occasional lunch out and if, like, us you are on a budget fresh sardines and salad come in at 6 Euro and there is always a reasonably priced sandwich on offer or the standard spaghetti or burgers. ++ The lady in the hut opposite does excellent XXL bratwurst in a roll for 3.50Euro.
Entertainment is not our thing but there was a good range of shows that started at 9:45pm each evening which was too late for us as our boy needed to be in bed. The mini-disco and the bingo aren't what we're into so didn't sit around for that, but we did play pool and air hockey at the hotel a couple of times.
In terms of general location, it's a brilliant base. There are buses to Alcudia, Puerto Pollensa which is pretty (and you can take an onward bus or walk to Pollensa which is lovely)and Porto Cristo and the Caves of Drach and various other places. The local market is on a Friday and is fantastic value for shoes and bags and good for summer clothes especially trendy large sized ladies clothes so don't stock up before you go.
The Son Baulo isn't for snobs but it caters for all down to earth people whatever their tastes. If you're looking for glitz and glamour, it's not for you, but a clean ,pleasant and homely environment with comforts met - highly, highly recommend it.
- Advice: Son Baulo is a world away from Can Picafort being unspoilt, sedate with nature reserve & fab beach

I visited here as a family in sept 2011. This is one seriously good hotel. Great food, friendly staff, clean rooms, great entertainment and fantastic position.
unfortunatly i will not be returning due to a fear of flying, but this is easily the best hotel i have stayed in.
Thompson holidays were fantastic and their reps could not do enough to help.
Please book a seaview if you can, the view is to die for. Loads of sunbeds and entertainment round the pool. The snacks were large and reasonably cheap ( average about 3.5 euros ). My only gripe would be that the drinks are quite expensive and small in comparison to local bars.
We found a fantastic bar opposite called the Don Juan. Brilliant place to sit and watch the world go slowly by..
Please visit, you wont be disappointed :- ))
