Hotel Son Baulo

We have just returned from holiday, thank goodness. Whilst the location of the hotel was good (right on the beach and an advertised 20 min walk from the busier pub/resteraunts) there was little else going for it. I would at this juncture say that the hotel staff, from cleaners to bar staff were polite, well presented and very helpful but none the less I feel the pros are out weighed by the negatives.
On the inside the hotel is clean and tidy, although dated. We had booked a standard room but feel that should have been called basic, with no facilities at all, not even a light in the balcony and although there was posters saying we could up-grade the room we couldn't due to the hotel being fully booked.
Outside, the terrace areas were far too small for the capacity and whilst this is a family hotel the children, it seemed, far out numbered the adults and this, at times, was a tad annoying. As was the inside, the outside was clean and tidy with the pool bar set well back from the pool area, you could eat without getting soaked, another rare bonus.
Whilst Lee and Jill did their best the entertainment was poor and repetitive. Asking a troop of acrobats (African Footprints) to do their act with less than 10ft to the ceiling is a big ask and if you want to see a better juggler take a walk down the promenade. I had hoped for more audience participation based entertainment than bingo, as for the kids mini disco the same three songs every night began to wear thin, even with the kids and yes that came from a 10 year old!!!
The restaurant whilst clean was far too crowded and the selection of food did not seem to change that much and the kids menu didn't change. The food seemed to be warm rather than hot and when busy the waiters struggled to keep up with demand for drinks from the bar.
We did attend the welcome meeting but chose not to buy any excursions, that was the last we saw or heard from the reps, on previous holidays we had always been asked how our holiday was but I feel that this reflects on the young age of the rep team.
All in all a poor holiday with little value for our money.

I had the most amazing time! I'm a teenager but still loved getting on stage and dancing with Lee! - had so much fun!
This hotel is great, really easy to find your way around and the waiters are so nice!
I really want to go back next year and hope it would be as good as this year! I loved it!

Well what can I say but fantastic, arrived in the afternoon it was very hot. Hotel is so clean and beautiful in lovely setting right on the beach. The hotel staff are very freindly and bend over backwards to please you. The food is very english but they do a good variety, if you are on a diet forget it, the puddings are so nice you have to try all of them.
Evening entertainment was ok but a stroll a long the sea front takes you into the heart of Can Picafort where you can sit in a bar have a drink and watch the world go by. There is lots of shops and in the evening there are a few stalls. The whole area is clean and people are very freindly.
The hotel pool is nice and the snack bar round the pool is good, we had lunch there nearly every day.
If you visit, a must do is the Pirate show in Magaluf and a must do with the kids is a water park, we went to the marineland but the kids were fed up after a couple of hours this excursion was not worth the money.
We loved this holiday and had a fantastic time thanks to the location and staff (Nacho, Zigas, and the entertainers Lee and Jill who made laugh all the time).
I would recommend this holiday for families.

I'm 14 years old and have been coming to this same hotel since i was 3 and wish to carry on coming here as i'm totally in love with the place and the people here.
All the waiters and workers here are amazing! From the receptions to the cleaners every one is so polite and welcoming. The food is great and the pool is the best! and it is lovely that you can just step out of the hotel and the beach is right there.
Lee and Gill are amazing with the children and all the reps are just great. Younger children will love this place. I totally disagree with the person that said nothing was up to standards, as it's way over what anyone would expect! I also disagree with the people that say its not a place for teens as me and my friends have loved every minute!
The main town is about a 30 mins walk however you don't have to walk as there is a train which can take and it is a lovely ride. You could also get the bus.
The bar staff and pool bar staff are great. They get along with anyone and everyone. The entertainment is good and so is the bingo.
I would tell everyone of my friends to come here as its just the best place ever!
I wish to come back in the future, when i have my own family as i've had the best holidays here and have loads of memories that will stay with me always.

Im 13 and in a few weeks i am going back to the Son Baulo.
It's amazing, this will be the 4th time here. The best holiday ever I must say. And i wouldn't go anywhere else apart from here.
There is something for all ages. And all the children have great fun. Well who wouldn't at this hotel?!
The staff are absolutely BRILLIANT. Look out for Manuel, he hilarious.
Each night everyone has a laugh. And HEY... if you don't want to stay in the hotel... there is plenty of shops/bars/restaurants to enjoy! And a town nearby.
I love this hotel and will never stop returning.

FANTASTIC!
I couldn't be more pleased, in fact i am so pleased i am writing this review while i'm in the hotel now.
I have been here twice before and each time thoroughly enjoyed myself non-stop! I brought my wife and and my two teenage children with me and we all cannot stop praising the hotel, the food, the staff, the cleaners, the location basically everything.
Any queries we ever had,which were rare, the staff eagerly helped up to ensure our full satisfaction. I cannot thank the Son-Baulo enough for MAKING our summer 2007.
If you want a luxurious peaceful holiday full of activities for adults and kids book now!
May i also personally comment on the hard-work of the staff at the hotel who made our stay even more enjoyable

Just returned from a 2 week stay at the Son Baulo and would recommend this hotel to anyone with young children.
Hotel very clean although standard rooms fairly basic, otherwise spotless with no signs of insects or pests.
Hotel staff including reception, waiters, cleaners and catering staff always polite, cheerful, and happy to help making for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday experience.
Good menu available on most nights although children's menu very limited, unimaginative and needs revamping.
Evening entertainment offers a variety to all tastes, with the children's disco and entertainment staff (especially Lee) making the kids evening's something to look forward to.
We, after visiting for our first time would recommend this hotel to others, although if you have children under 5 please do not be drawn in by the Thomson reps to book for the Pirates show, unless you are sure that they will not be frightened by loud noises / bangs, darkness, and a theme more suited to older children.
I would rate the Thomson reps response to our complaints very negatively, unhelpful and merely based on making commission on a sale of tickets that where wholly inappropriate for a family with 2 children under the age of 5.

Just come back from Son Baulo with my husband and 2 children aged 9 and 16. Great hotel, very clean, staff all pleasant and happy.
We had a family room which was very spacious with 2 bathrooms, however the price for this was the balcony which was very small and crammed into a corner, I love to sit on the balcony and look over the sea, which is why I pay for a sea view, and I never once sat out on this one.
The pool was nice but I can imagine it getting overcrowded in the school holidays, we were lucky cos we went before the kids broke up, even then we couldn't always get a sunbed but there were more sunbeds on the terrace overlooking the sea.
The food was pretty good, although my children didn't eat that much but then they're fussy, they made up with the puddings though.
The beach was clean and so convenient being on the doorstep of the hotel.
All in all a very good value for money holiday, we are considering going back next year.

After reading the reviews on this hotel before choosing our holiday, we had fairly high expectations. However we were disappointed.
The location of the hotel wasn’t great, the hotel is right on the beach which was lovely however it was a good 20 mins walk to the resort, which unfortunately seemed to favour German bars over English!
The pool area was nice (the snack bar did lovely food-a good range), but it was very crowded.
The restaurant and main meals were not up to standard at all, whatever time you went it was packed, and we found the overall standard of the food was not up to scratch - not hot enough and poor quality (however the kids section looked quite good!).
Although the room itself was spacious and modern, it was lacking in any facilities i.e. tea/coffee making facilities, TV. The cleaners did come every day but they left a lot to be desired!
We always take our holidays with Thomson and have never had a bad holiday before but overall we felt we deserved better for the amount of money we paid for this holiday, it’s not a place we'd want to return to.

A first class hotel, have been three times. Excellent for kids.
Food is brilliant, something for everyone, waiters, and bar staff first class.
Can't beat the cleanliness and friendliness of everyone.
Entertainment is great; Gill is the perfect host, great lady, hope to see her again next year.
If you want a good family holiday, no worries about kid’s not eating, child friendly staff and a clean hotel then pick the Son Baulo.
Please ensure that you book sea view as some rooms look over the road and can be quite noisy, especially with small children.
