" african safari club "

The Fleurette 26/10/09 to 02/11/09. Our first impression with African Safari club was right, not only the way our enquiries were met with the Bromley team but also with all the relevant info before our trip. Our choice with the Fleurette was spot on: small and friendly, 78 guests on board, just the right number .Although this boat might be older than others, it is the standards of services in all departments that made it that little bit special.the choice of trips and timing were once again spot on. Breakfast, lunch and dinner in the retaurant could not be faulted ( I am a caterer) the variety and presentation excellent so was the service, Mr Hassam ,our waiter was the most entertaining.
Now for the piece de resistance...our guide, H, Hesham, waroo, king of the nile, whatever the name people gave him is probably the best guide any one could wish to have for the whole experience in Egypt.H should be training all the guides in Egypt to his standard and humour, definatly the highlight of our trip.

" MS Fleurette and Luxor "

We could not fault this holiday. We had a marvellous time on the Fleurette. Delicious food, lots of choice. Spacious air-conditioned cabin. And the 10 included excursions, what can you say about Egypt? we loved everything. I would recommend the optional Abu Simbel and Cairo excursions, both worth every penny. We are so glad we stayed on for the extra add-on week in Luxor, we went to Cairo in the second week. Abu Simbel and Cairo in the same week would be very tiring, but saying that we has a 94yr old man on our cruise who did them on consecutive days! The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable.
We spent the second week in the Mercure Hotel in Luxor, we could not have made a better choice. This hotel is on the Nile promenade, a perfect location. We enjoyed our breakfast overlooking the Nile, and the Valley of the Kings. The pool is ideal, the perfect depth for anyone not that confident. Again the food was great, lots of choice, friendly staff.
Thank you African Safari Club for the holiday of a lifetime.

Advice: A Nile Cruise is something everyone should do. We would highly recommend this holiday.

Activities: Don't miss out on Cairo, worth every penny. Strolling along the Nile promenade in Luxor is amazing.

" A GREAT HOLIDAY "

Have just returned from a 7 day Nile Cruise on the MS Fleurette - what a great holiday. As long as you bear in mind what you are paying on this boat compared to most other cruises, you are going to get excellent value for money. For the most part, staff are friendly, helpful although the restaurant staff could take a few lessons from some professionals. The food was plentiful and varied and, after talking to some passengers from the more expensive MS Da Vinci, it seems as though we got the better deal. The included excursions were great (but please do pay extra for Abu Simbel, it is worth every penny)and our guide, Ahmed, was tremendous - have been to Egypt 8 times before and he is certainly the best I have ever experienced. The boat was clean if a little faded and the swimming pool was a little small but it certainly encouraged you to talk to other passengers. Cannot recommend this holiday highly enough and am hoping to do it all again next year.

" don't stay on the flurette "

My partner and I have just come back from a week long "cruise" on the ms Flurette. I use the term cruise very losely!
We had booked a 7 night cruise down the nile in which was advertised by our agent as a 5 star boat but after the week went on we quickly realised this was definately not the case! The ship is extremely dated and in much need of vast amounts of repair or just put on the scrap heap, the cabins are small and in a bad state.... plugs and light switches hanging off the wall, loose ceiling panels, mould around the windows, metal strips sticking out of the floor, a fridge door that just wouldnt stay on, a filthy toilet bush and a plug that wouldnt go down! The list just goes on and on! There was a couple next door to us with the same problems but on top of that they had a wall panel fall on them and a cabin door with a 3inch gap top and bottom. There was a female guest aboard when taking shower the ceiling panel feel on her!
The first 2 days were spent on the river bank at Luxor, then started the cruise the following day, we only had 4 days actually cruising but it would only be about 5-7 hours a day. not exactly the 7 day cruise we was expecting!
Meal times were interesting to say the least, some meals wern't too bad but the portions were extremely small. For the buffet meals the food lables really served no use. The large tray containing "meat" could of been anything, same as the "vegetables" tray, both were very bland with no taste! Along with most food dished up coming to think of it! Between courses there would always be a long wait before the next dish would arrive and we just found ourselves in conversation everynight with other guests complaining about their experience. Luckily enough we are not vegetarians as their meals consisted every day of a plate of rice and potato's with some sort of vegetable mush in a bowl! not exactly 5* cuisine.
There are so many bad points towards this boat but i must say the trips with our guide Abou were fantastic! He was a fountain of knowledge and always made the day interesting for the hole group. If it wasn't for him snd some of the grate staff we would of got off the ship and came home within the first couple of days! The trips did tend to start EARLY in the morning but it was for the best, walking around temples in a 35 degree heat would not be nice! Beware though, all the trips are extra ontop of the original price but are not that expensive. All the trips are well worth the time and money!!
And as for money..... you'l need alot on the boat for drinks as they're expensive! 5* prices on a 3* boat, and they're not very nice. The local beer at nearly £4 a can was always warm and the water at £1.50 a bottle was out of date. the wine was around £13 or £14 a bottle, and that was just local egyptian wine, not that bad but definately not worth the price. The price list was a shock but to make it worse they then add 10% tax on top!
This is just a small snipet of our experiance on the flurette. don't get me wrong, a cruise down the nile would be and is fantastic, just not on the ms flurette!!!

Advice: cruising the nile is fantastic for the site seeing and relaxation

" not 5 star accomodation "

Just returned from a week on MS Fleurette nile cruise and overall we had a really excellent time. However although the boat was advertised to be 5 star accomodation it definitely would not be classed in this catergory by Englands standards it would probably struggle to achieve 3 star. The boat was kept very clean at all times but the cabins were old and in definite need of a refurb, the pool was more like a foot spa in comparison to similar boats that were moored alongside it with holidaymakers having to take it in turns to use it. The sunbeds were few and tatty, some in need of repair and drinks were sold at four times the price they were on shore we got off the boat in Aswan and walked to the Egypt free shop to get our cheap beer and sneaked in on also the prices fluxtuated when we were paying in cash at the end of the holiday. The food was plentiful but repeative and in my case it was not what I wanted to eat but what I would eat to stop myself going hungry, (lots of bread!!) however no sign of anybody with upset tummy, the chefs worked really hard and was happy to try to accomodate you if they could, the soup bowls were chipped and broken and the glasses on the table were various sizes. Also in the dining room you have to sit according to a seating plan even if this is not what you want you were allocated to a table at the beginning of the week and was told you had to sit there all week it felt very much like you were at school, if you tried to move you was told "this was a problem!!" and you was not given any drink even water with your meal you had to buy them and the drinks were more expensive in the dining room than anywhere else on the boat even upstairs at the pool bar. If you only book light excursions like myself you will have to either forfeit your breakfast or get up withn the rest of the groups who were on full packages early morning (sometimes 5 am) so you can get a drink of tea.
We were not told about the additional tips required at the beginning of the cruise at £15 per person for the staff on the boat and also expected tip at the end for the tour guide of £1.50 per person per day (additional £21.00) altogether £50 out of your spending money for 2 people. The waiters ansd cleaning staff also expected tips daily too. I feel that this should be at the holidaymakers discretion or goodwill.
Please note this is not a negative review about the boat it was a lovely experience but I feel the boat is definitely falsely graded at five star and could give you the impression that you are going on a luxury cruise liner this you are definitely not think more along the lines of a cheap floating b+b in Blackpool to be more realistic, but I would certainly recommend it to anyone who was looking for the nile experience and does not have high expectations after all you get what you pay for and we were happy with what we got for what we paid.

Advice: yes definitely

" Magnificent Egypt "

I have just returned from a weeks stay on the MS Fleurette and can honestly say, that apart from one to Las Vegas, it is the best holiday I have been on. From the minute African Safari met you to when you were left at the Airport to come home, everything was perfect. The boat, cabin, staff, food, cleanliness and atmosphere were second to none. Nothing was too much trouble for the organisers. I have to mention in particular our guide, Yousef, who was so passionate about the history of his country, his talks brought the whole era to life. He was such good fun and I shall miss him very much calling his & “Sunshine Group” whilst on our tours. Ashraf was also very helpful and friendly. I am aiming to go again in two years time and am hoping to once again have Yousef as my guide. Well done African Safari....
I will have no hesitation in recommending your holidays to friends and family. A truly memorable experience. Thank you.

Advice: Amazing
