Arkleside Country Guesthouse

Had a really great weekend in December 2008. This hotel is under new management and it shows! Food , service and atmosphere top notch. Would definitely go again. Recommended.

We stayed at Arkleside for a long weekend in early December with a group of friends and had a great time. Apparently it is under new management (since Summer 08) and the new owners, Mick and Jan Woodard, are ideal hosts. The English breakfasts were all that could be desired and our room was comfortable with private facilities. My husband and i stayed at the Arkleside the first weekend in November after being recomended by a friend. The hotel is set in a fantastic village and has beautiful surrounding views from the bedrooms, dining rooms and lounge. We found the hotel owners very welcoming (we later found out that the hotel had recently been taken over by new management) and especially enjoyed the breakfast !!! We were expecting something reasonable based on the prices being charged but this was not the case. Bathrooms were very much of poor B & B standard where a price tag of £45 per room (absolute maximum) would be far more appropriate.

Booked for 3 night B&B stay. First room we were shown had a tiny narrow ensuite shower room up a step from the bedroom. It had a louvred door with open slats you could see through! Asked for another room. This had a slightly bigger ensuite shower room, but the same type of slated door which provides no privacy. Had to take this as nothing else was offered. The shower was broken & held on with tape so it couldnt be adjusted plus hot water stopped when other guests turned their taps on. Rooms fairly twee with lots of ornaments... more
