chillout holiday
7 / 10
Jul 2009, a.murray

My wife and I went to the Haiti Hotel from 21-06-09 to 28-06-09 for a chill out break.
Before we went we read the reviews and we have to agree with most of the comments.
The hotel is dated, the bathroom needed an extractor fan.The room was cramped and the balcony was small. The food was boring and most of the soups were tastless. The rooms were clean and we didn't experience any noise. We chose June for this break on the understanding
that there wouldn't be many children over 5 years of age yet in fact it was like a primary school or kindergarden(why were these children absent from school?) They were very unruly so we couldn't stay to enjoy the entertainment. We were unable to acquire sunbeds as people reserved 6 beds at a time.
The entertainment guy looked and acted like Mr Bean and yet was quite aggressive and rude to the holidaymakers.
The beach at Ca'n Picafort has a lot of seaweed and we preferred Alcudia beach as it was a lot cleaner and shallow, ideal for children. On the front they were mainly German bars, there was not much to do at night but we spent most nights at Anne & Neil's bar and were made very welcome, the food there was very good.
We didn't exactly chill out,in our opinion this hotel is for families and not couples.

  • Advice: Avoid this resort if you like pleny of entertainment at night

Fab for families

Have just returned from a week staying in Hotal Haiti in Majorca. We were a group of 6 adults, two children and one baby. Have to say that the hotel was great for families. The rooms were basic and a bit small, but very clean (maid service every day). The food was fine, there was a excellent choice for breakfast, and a different selection of choices every evening for dinner, and although not fine dining you would need to be incredibly fussy to not find something that you like. The children in our group loved the buffet. The pool area, bar entertainment etc were all good. The staff in the hotel were all lovely and very helpful, as were our rep's (First Choice). The area around the hotel was very pretty and clean, the beach being only a short five minute walk, and again the beach was very clean, and safe. There are plenty of bars, shops etc around the hotel, and we would highly recommend The London Pub, which is run by a lovely spanish family, ask for Alex, he is very friendly. There is also a supermarket directly opposite the hotel which is great if you have a small baby requiring copius amounts of nappies, wipes etc. All in all this is a great place to take children for a lovely family holiday, my only advice would be to ask for a poolside room, as the ones we stayed in on the other side of the hotel were a bit noisy, and also watch out for the bed posts, we lost count of how many times we all stubbed our toes!

week in hotel haiti

 's photos of Hotel Haiti

Weve just returned from a weeks holiday at the hotel haiti in can picafort. We were part of a party of 8,which included 3 children, ages 3,10 and 11.I was slightly concerened after reading alot of reviews on the food not being that great, and the smokey rooms and entertainment area.I was also sceptical about the rush for sunbeds as mentioned in previous reviews. On arrival just after lunch time we were checked in quickly and the staff were great. The hotel was super clean and the rooms were clean and fresh. We had a family room with 4 beds in it and it was a great size.We had plenty of room. The towels and beds were changed and made daily. The food was fantastic all week.A great selection of everything for us.Our kids ate a wide variety and there was plenty of fresh fruit and veg available daily. The pool was great fun and even though the hotel was really busy,it never felt cramped. We didnt have a problem with gaining sunbeds at all,on only 2 occasions we had to wait but for no more than 15 or so mins. The only reason weve given a 9 is because we struggled to get a table to view the evening entertainment nearly every night as the area isnt big enough to accomadate everyone staying there,so although the kids would dissapear to the front, which was great for them, the adults didnt get to see alot.
The hotel entertainers were ok,but not overly friendly towards everyone. The thompson reps were again ok,the guy was in his first month repping and was enthusiastic and polite, but the female rep wasnt very approachable and quite stroppy looking most of the time.
Over all we would highly recommend the haiti for any families looking for loads for the kids and a lovely area with a fab beach. We really enjoyed it and would def go back again.

  • Advice: Its a beautiful area, very child friendly and well worth visiting

Leanne Findlay's photos of Hotel Haiti

Went for a 2 week holiday with husband, 2 year old son and mother and father in law. My self and husband have visted Majorca before but it was the first time for my in laws and was the best holiday we have had on the Island. The hotel was spot on for all ages. Good food and even better pool area for our little boy.
Anne and Neils bar down the road became our local and both made us all feel very welcome.
Just booked again for September 2009. Can't wait.....

we stayed at haiti in august, 4 adults, 2 kids, it was our 1st time in majorca, and we had a great time, although we did,nt think much 2 resort itself, very built up and residential. the hotel itself was very clean and food was adequate enough for us all, although a bit repetative at times, but u get wat u pay for and by any standereds a very cheap hol!!!! the entertainment on a night was second to none ,with a mini disco 4 little ones then a different caberet show evry night, which on whole were really god. drinks are a little bit more expensive in hotel but where arn,t they. just outside of hotel ther are sum great bars to visit, with mo,s karaoke bar and williams just a bit further down, where he put us big brother final on big screen tv no problem, the staff were all really nice bt gavin and josh the entertainment duo made our holiday 4 us.although i will not be returning to this resort as it was not our cup ov tea, i would highly reccomend this hotel 2 anyone.

The hotel itself was really nice and clean. it is a little distance from the beach front but its not far enough to get a bus or taxi to. the staff were realy friendly. the bar staff were great and were always having a laugh with the entertainments team. the entertainments was great. Gavin and Josh were great and Josh made us feel welcome with his big bubbly personality. he really put the life into the place and always got the crowd going. i would hope to see them both there again next year as i thoroughly enjoyed my time at the haiti. would definatly recommend it to my friends and family.

Got conned into this looking for...

Got conned into this looking for somewhere different for a change and had been with Thomson last year and had no complaints. We were told it was a lovely place and read some of the reviews on here with the usual mix of good stuff and bad about the hotel and resort.
1) Staff at hotel were very pleasant and helpful
2) Room very basic indeed
3) Location of hotel is awful
4) Resort of Canpicafort its self (a dump)
5) Thomsons tours are wallet breakingly expensive for most of the trips on offer.
6) FOOD WAS ABSOLOUTELY DISCUSSSSSTING, Pork pork and more pork, foul smelling pailla, fish in this sauce or the discusssstingly tasteless potatoes, tastless sweets. We ate from the kiddies menu for 2 nights and after that we ate out, could not stand to look at it let alone eat it anyone who thinks the food here is good then all I can say is you are not very fussy what you eat and I would hate to see what you eat at home . It was certainly not a patch on Benidorm last year.
7) Entertainment was so so 2 really good shows out of the 2 weeks
8) Drinks in hotel expensive
9) Rooms not many with a decent view (main road oppisite a petrol station was ours)
10) Mallorca and here in perticular nothing to get ecited about.
On our last day spoke to a chap who had been moved from a Thomsons all inclusive place in middle of no where as the food there was C**P!!! and this was only slightly better at a cost of £2,000 for him and his wife what a shame.
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THOMSONS WE PAID FOR EXCESS BAGGAGE BOTH OUTWARD AND RETURN AND AS WE WERE OVER IT WAS 9euros A KILO. THEY WEIGHED ALL OUR LUGGAGE INCLUDING HAND LUGGAGE AS WELL AT PALMA AIRPORT. SO BE CAREFUL PEOPLE, AND THAT WAS AN EXTRA 5 kilo ALLOWANCE WE HAD PAID FOR BY THE WAY.
So all in all I can say we wont be back her and we certainly wont use Thomson again either.

I went to Hotel Haiti, our first...

Sep 2008, Ms A Boardman

I went to Hotel Haiti, our first holiday in quite a few years with my partner and our 2 children (9 and 2 1/2yrs). We werent fortunate enough to get a family room and had a twin room with a 3rd bed and a cot, which made the room crammed but that was ok because your only in your room to sleep and get changed etc. (Didnt get stubbed toes thanks to this website and other people remarking on it...thank you!!).
The food was ok, not overly impressed with the kids buffet so majority of nights my kids ate from the adult buffet which varied from night to night. The sweet buffet was more or less the same every night but do recommend the cake....Mmm delicious...
As for the pool, only managed to get a sun lounger one day so always went to the beach which was fab and had a good atmosphere, people very friendly including the germans!!! We tended to go to the beach and then head to the pool so my little girl could have a splash in the pool at around 4pm when we could get a sun lounger!!!!
In general was very happy with the holiday, unfortunately I am not the type of person to visit somewhere twice but would recommend C'an Picafort to my friends.

went for a week form the 17th august....

Aug 2008, Mr K Stavely

went for a week form the 17th august. family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids (5+2). its an hour from the airport and we arrived at 1130am. had to wait 10 mins for a room but needed a nice cold pint anyway. we had one of the larger rooms ith 4 beds (top tip from a previous review to tuck yor bed sheets so you can se the bed legs- worked for us, no toe banging!)
shower over bath which was ideal for our small kids, 24hrs hot water. safe in the wardrobe (1.80 euro a day to hire). rooms cleaned and fresh towels every day from varying times, never before 1030 in our experience which was perfect for a lie in.
the breakfast and evening meal was different everyday and we had no problems with our fussy kids. there is a seperate kids buffet (pizza, chips different pasta and something like nuggets/ fish fingers varying each night) to the far right of the restaurant which we missed on the first night and our kids still ate from the adult selection.
the food is all suited to the english taste. in fact it was all english guests, not a german in sight!.
For lunch the bar do have a menu which we used a few times and was spot on. they have ice cream fridges and sky tv and air con.
lots of sunloungers, but mostly taken by 9.30 ish. people did queue up at 8 for the doors to open to reverve a spot. plenty of comfy ish chairs outside the bar to sunbath on though if the loungers all go.
the entertainers put a kids dvd on about 1230 to gets the younger ones out of the heat if required.
english papers for sale at reception- can be got cheaper like most things out of the hotel. if you go out of the hotel there is a supermarket almost opposite which a few people used and sneaked things back to eat by th the pool.
turn right out of the hotel and right again this road leads down to the beach a few minutes walk. there were a british bars on this street mo's (linked to the trotters bar on the beach front), william's bar, the london bar and ann and neil's bar.
all good bars catering for kids with toys and video games s use (x box, playstation etc).
there is a main pedestrianised shopping street if you go down to the beach turn left and walk along about 10 mins then trn left away from the beach (same street as burger king).
stayed in the hotel bar a few nights, kids loved the mini disco, bingo, prize depends on how may play but it was 125 euros approx the nights we were there. the acts we saw were a clown show and an act called take 5 funk, both were top nights.
easy to get served at the bar and not that much more money than outside the hotel.
the exchange rate at reception was exactly the same as in the resort - we looked.
would hestitate to reccomend to anyone, we are thinking of booking again next year.
ps we saw an english bar called 'shenanigan's bar' on the way nto the resort on the first day which looked good. spent hours one day looking for it (stoping off at various bars for refreshment) if anyone finds it on there hols please put directions from the hotel on here. i want to find it if i go back next year!!!!!
hope this is useful
cheers and enjoy your hols
keith, very happy from manchester

Location A 5 Minute walk from the sea...
8 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr M Silver

2 readers found this review helpful

Location
A 5 Minute walk from the sea and set on the sea side of the main road to Alcudia which is convenient for all bus routes. There is a supermarket across the road.
Can Picafort is not a modern spaced out resort but is rather a developed village with narrow streets. The main shopping street is busy with all the traffic but the sea front is pedestrianised which leads to a more relaxed feel.
Hotel
This is a small 3 star hotel at the lower end of the budget range but you would not know it.
With 250ish rooms, it only has a limited number (8-10) of family (4 berth) rooms, but also has a number of single rooms.
The majority of rooms will have sea view but only 1/3 will have a pool view with ¼ having neither pool nor sea view.
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming and the communal areas are bright and open.
It has 2 lifts that can accommodate 4 people each which do run quite slowly and can become congested at busy times, but the main part of the hotel is only 5 storey high and so this should not cause a problem for the majority of people.
Bedrooms
The majority of rooms are ideal for 2 people and it is a squeeze to fit in the 3rd bed.
We had a 4 berth room with 4 single beds which was very spacious and was always spotless cleaned.
All rooms have air conditioning which is temperature controlled and worked superbly well. A room key must be inserted into a switch and the patio door must be shut for this to work to ensure it is not left on unnecessarily.
The room is confortable with cushioned chairs and a dressing table but disappointingly it was not possible to rent a fridge.
The bath room had a shower over the bath and there was a limitless supply of hot controllable water and clean towels every day. There was also a limited supply of shampoo/shower gel provided.
The balcony has a handy fold away drying rail and 2 plastic chairs and a table but lights go out at 11.45.
The legs on the bed do protrude slightly and I can understand how, in a more cramped room you can stub your toes be this was not a problem for us in a family room even with a 4 and an 8 yr old.
Restaurant
The restaurant is buffet style with a reasonable choice to suit all tastes.
You find your own table for both breakfast and dinner with most being set for 2/3 people and only a limited number of tables able to accommodate 4 or more, although the staff are only too willing to help if you struggle to find a big enough table and will readily set a clean table for you.
Breakfast – The usual English style breakfast with bacon, sausage, eggs (fried, boiled, scrambled) beans, etc. There is a continental style cooked meats section and a separate gondala for cereals. You serve yourself tea/coffee and orange juice and there are the usual conveyor type toast machines.
Dinner – Once you have found a table a waiter will take a drinks order from you which you pay for as you leave. There are 3 main meal choices that always follow the same format, one fish dish, one English style (Pork Chop, Steak & Kidney Pie, Chicken Strips) and one with a foreign flavour (Majorcan, curry, etc). Most dishes are covered with a sauce and they are continually being replenished.
Occasionally there is a carvery with roast beef, pork etc and for the kids there is a separate kids gondola that always has a selection of Pizza, Pasta, Nuggets, Fish Fingers , Burgers and Chips.
You can start with 2 choices of soup and there is also a cold salads selection.
Dessert is from a separate gondola with ice cream always avaiable and a varying selection of cakes and other sweets. There is also a small cheese board with crackers.
Pool
The pool has recentlybeen moved from the back of the hotel to the side so that it benefits from sunshine all day. It is a free form pool with a small children's area at one end ranging from 0.3 to 0.5m.
The main pool is quite deep ranging from 1.2m at each end to 1.9m in the middle. If you are not a reasonable swimmer you may find yourself limited to where you can confidently go and there is a severe step from the 2 side stairway entrances from 1.2m to 1.9m..
The Pool has 3 stairway entrances and is surrounded by a stone (marble) path and then a wooden decking.
The lounger's are located on a grassed area and surprisingly we did not suffer from the expected army of ants. The pool is locked off overnight and only opened at 8am when there is the obligatory queue to reserve lounger's.
There is also a small terrace area with plastic wicker tables & chairs that can be used when the lounger's are inevitably full.
There is a small sandy shaded kids play park (swings, slides, etc) at the far end of the pool area that can be seen from the bar area and is an ideal escape for the kids in the evening.
Although there is no official kids club there is poolside entertainment that also covers the kids with a morning craft club and lunchtime DVD and afternoon games. Adults are also covered with a morning quiz, and then afternoon activity (shuffle board, rifle shooting, darts, etc) followed by water polo.
Bar/Entertainment
The bar area comes equiped with computers (1euro for 15 mins) and arcade games. There is also a series of fridges on the pblic side of the bar containing ice creams, ice lollies, sweets and kids drinks that are too easily accessible for the kids to help themselves. During the day the bar has a snack counter with the usual selection of fayre that is all most acceptable, typically chicken nuggets and chips are 4.5 euro.
Beer is 2.8 euros/pint, a jug of sangria 7.8 euro and soft drink 1.8 euros.
The staff are happy and friendly but there is no waiter service although a waiter will collect empty glasses. The bar has an outside terraced area where the poolside chairs are covered with cushions in the evening for more comfort. Again there is no waiter service here so if you want a drink you go to the bar.
The Entertainment ranges from professional acts to hotel entertainment team provided acts. It starts with a mini disco at 8:45 and is followed by a quick game of bingo with a reasonable jackpot (100 euros plus). The staff entertainment is basic with ‘deal or no deal’ followed by karaoke beng typical. That aside the entertainmet staff (Amy & Gavin) work very hard and keep the kids well entertained.
The professional acts vary in standard from brilliant to dismal, but don’t miss the ‘Xerox Mimic Act’ as this was the funniest thing I have seen for a long time and the kids will love it.
Summary
This is a budget hotel that far exceeded my expectations.
It has freiendly, helpful staff and is spotlessly clean.
There is food available to suit all pallets and drinks are reasonably priced.
There is plenty for the kids to do and receptive pool in which to cool down and relax.
It is a short walk to the seafront where there are ample bars, restaurants and shops to keep everyone occupied.
I will definitely be returning in the future.

just returned 7 august 2008.not bad but a very noisy hotel not just because people arriving and leaving all hours[5days a week] but the cleaners start at 7am and drag funiture around so one up all up so you can go and queue for a sun bed at 7.05am,pool doesnt open till 8am so good start to the day.pool area could be cleaner and entertainment is poor by standards of other hotels we visited.staff where good, but food and drink expensive, its also on a main road with a petrol station opposite,if youre going for a rest forget it,children not the problem with anything in the hotel, its just a very noisey hotel,my son was even up every morning for breakfast and he nomally does see before 10am.i did my homework before booking this hotel and found it disappointing

have 2 agree with most of the last...

Aug 2008, Mr R Roberts

have 2 agree with most of the last couple of reviews as they r spot on with everything, room was basic but always clean, drinks were expensive but we knew they wouldnt be cheap, the food was very nice but evening meal if ur there for 2 weeks does repeat itself so we ate out a few times, the main man in the resturante was paco and he was a legend, the hotel needs a pool table or table tennis as if u dnt wnt 2 swim my kids got quite bored, but the entertainment was good and always had somthing different on, even deal or no deal, we went 2 our welcome meeting and was greated by our reps, Tony and jade although jade went home half way thru so a new girl started andrea, anyway the reps were good and we booked all our trips throught thomson as we booked our holiday with them.....so didnt see why we should buy our trips off of a company who we had heard bad things about, and we couldnt fault the trips at all, they were all spot on and no problems wot so eva. Just make sure u go and see pirates because WOW, u will understand wot i mean wen u go!
All in all great hotel friendly staff and BRILLIANT REPS!!!!!
