Quinto Sol Hotel

We were very pleased with the exotic feel of this hotel. It is built around an open garden with a large tree growing up the middle. The look of the place on the inside and the outside was great. As one previous review said, our room was pretty dark, which just seemed to add to the atmosphere. The bathroom was nice (except you can't put toilet paper in the toilet - which seemed pretty standard for the whole city of Playa from what we saw of public restrooms), and the room itself had plenty of space for us. What a lovely place to stay in playa! This hotel does not have every luxury and amenity - but it doesn't cost as much as the hotels that do. The room was charming (king sized bed, good A/C, private terrace) , the staff was friendly, and we had no problems with outside noise or room cleanliness. There was a mistake on our phone bill but the staff was quick to try and remedy the situation. I was expecting a much better experience than we had. The reviews on this site that praise cleanliness must be outdated. Something has changed since then. The staff is mostly friendly but a little offputting in some subtle ways. I didn't appreciate the staff giving us a discount card and pushing us to visit one of the cheesiest restaurants on the strip. I am a travel agent and sent my daughter and her boyfriend to Hotel Quinto Sol. As a travel agent you always feel so responsible for your clients having a good time as a travel agent whose daughter is spending hard earned travel dollars on her one vacation, the responsibilty is enormous. We arrived at the Hotel Quinto Sol and were very happy with the exterior of the establishment; however, upon trying to register we found out that they were completely booked (overbooked) and we were out of luck. They referred us to a small inn down the street and that was it. There was not a hint of an apology nor have I recieved a call or email from the manager who took my reservation to apologize. I would not recomend this hotel in the least bit based on this experiance

Hotel Quinto Sol is perfectly playa! I would stay here again without hesitation! Staff was especially pleasant. Rooms were clean, and cleaned well every day (maids even decorated a bit with fresh flowers). Showers were hot. And our top floor room was spacious enough for sleeping which was the only time we really spent there. And the closet was huge. Do your research. The hotel is OK. Rooms are dark and some of the standard rooms are quite compact. This end of Playa is less built up than the Playacar end, however, development has kept abreast with the popularity of the town and building sites and undeveloped plots surround this otherwise tranquil hotel (Mexicans work from 7am until 11 pm on building sites). First things first. If you are looking at Playa del Carmen, that probably means you have already decided to skip the glitz of Cancun and the isolation of Cozumel. If that is right, this may help you make a decision on a place to stay. If you are in the tattoo/piercing crowd and are traveling with a backpack, you?d best check on down 5th Street. Quinto Sol is a very nice, clean hotel...I would recommend staying here, but as a caveat--we were denied the continental breakfast advertised on their site because we booked through a web discounter (Travelweb)--after we ate breakfast on the first day we were presented with a bill and told that breakfast was NOT included with our room--very embarassing and we would not stay there again for that reason.

We wanted to be close to town and not stuck in a big resort. The hotel Quinto Sol fit the bill exactly. Located on the corner of 5th Ave. & Calle 28, just 5 minutes walk to the heart of Playa & 200 yards to the beach.
