Just arrived home after two nights B&B at the Chiltern. We were only going for the one night but ended up stopping for two !!
Highly recommend to all visitors and Tourist both from the Uk and abroad..you will not be disappointed.
The Guest house stands out on the road very good kerb appeal and just looks ` loved` the inside is amazing very clean welcoming all the little details the owners have thought about..Our room was spacious with lots of storage it was warm and we didnt hear any noise from the neighbours.
The breakfast was second to none and we cleared our plates and didnt eat again until tea time wholesome, tradional english breakfast including black pud and mushrooms endless toast cereals fruit etc.
Jools and John are very friendly and accommodating nothing was too much trouble.
We soon found parking near to the guest house, and very reasonable at £30 per person per night.
We would definitely recommend The Chiltern ( it was recommended to us first)
We could not find one fault
Thank you Chiltern you will definitely see us again.

I cannot rate the Chiltern highly enough, we only popped over to Whitby from York for the night but Jools and John made us feel so welcome that we will be going back again for a longer stay.
The en-suite room was homely, excellently appointed and clean with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was typically Yorkshire which meant that we never had need for anything else until 4pm, but lighter options were available if the full English isn't your thing.
The real gem for us was that we could take our dog with us. Naturally he wasn't allowed to stay in the room unattended but the fact that he could stay meant that it became a proper family outing. To say that Jools and John are animal lovers is an understatement, so as previous comments have stated, there is no "Treading on ice" atmosphere, just genuine Yorkshire hospitality at it's best.

Stayed overnight in Feb 2011 in the family room. Huge super kingsize for me and the wife and a single bed for our teenage daughter (not a tiny bunk bed). Very friendly and easy going, beautiful full english, would definitely stay here again.

I searched the internet 7 weeks ago in search of good reasonably priced B&B's in Whitby for myself, my 7 year old daughter and my parents to stay for 2 nights. We just returned yesterday from our stay and we were very impressed with the Chiltern. Me and my daughter had a very spacious room with a kingsize bed with an equally spacious en-suite that housed a modern corner shower. We had plenty wardrobe space and a colour tv.
My parents had a double room that was spacious that also had an en-suite, however they weren't too impressed with the en-suite as it was very small.
Breakfasts were very good and they were served in a bright, airy, clean dining room. Dietery needs are catered for too.
Booking in was easy and the owners were very informative about local attractions and shops and there are plenty of leaflets on display that have maps in them.
The only downside was the parking as it is very difficult to park outside the guest house. However, you can double park as the road is very wide so unloading and loading isnt difficult to do and parking spaces do become available after 5pm.
The Chiltern is 2 minutes from the beach, 2 minutes from the shops and there are plenty of places to eat.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we booked a full week there for next year before we came away yesterday. Thank you for a very pleasant stay Chiltern, see you next year.

Sometimes you just to get away from the rat race and spend a few days doing the basics. E.G. sleeping in a comfy bed, having a good breakfast, having a central location and made to feel welcome and comfortable. That's why I booked into the Chiltern Guesthouse after trawling through hotel/accommodation sites for hours. School holidays is always an awkward time to find good and reasonably priced accommodation.
We booked Chiltern online after being told by countless search engines that there was nowhere in Whitby for us to stay for 4 nights. We received an email from Chilterns offering us what we wanted.
Upon arrival checking in was easy although parking wasn't, but managed a space 40 yards down road. We were shown to a lovely double room with a king size bed and lots of storage. The bathroom was roomy and efficient with a corner bath unit and shower. All for £224 for 4 nights B&B.
Can't fault John and Jools the owners because everything was as on the 'tin'. The breakfasts were good, wholesome and plentiful. The rooms were kept clean and tidy while we were out exploring. The information and knowledge of the town was execellent and there was a pleasant friendly ambience about the place. Some places I've stopped in feels like you're treading on broken glass at times. Not this little haven.
Chiltern is about 10 mins walk from the swing bridge on the front, so eating, shopping and sight-seeing is very handy. The only drawback is the parking but as most people who visit Whitby are day trippers, after 5pm is it fairly easy to find a parking space within 2 or 3 minutes walk.

If you want a "home from home" then this is the place for you because, from the moment you step through the door of The Chiltern, Jools and John make you feel like you're one of the family! The rooms have tasteful contemporary decor (not a chintzy duvet or curtain in sight), always clean and well maintained and our room had a lovely corner shower unit in the en-suite. There was loads of wardrobe space too! John cooks the best Full English brekkie in Whitby, if not the World, and with as much tea, coffee and toast as you can eat and drink, and a choice of fresh fruit, cereals and juice for you to help yourself - you won't need to eat again till tea-time! and then, if you're not sure where to go Jools and John will help you out with their local knowledge of the best places to go to eat and drink. This really is an absolutely great place to stay and, like I said at the start - SIMPLY THE BEST!!!
