I've been to Vassiliki for windsurfing holidays many times over the past 15 years. It has grown from a simple fishing village to a holiday resort. It is a beautiful place to visit and has a great reputation for sailing. However, it doesn't have much else to offer other than sailing and a beautiful bay. If you don't sail or windsurf then it is likely you will quickly get bored unless you hire some transport to visit other parts of the island. The beaches are pebbly and swimming in the bay amongst the hoards of dinghys and windsurfers isn't to be recommended. Also, I've noticed that the prices at the restaurants and bars have increased significantly over the past few years and basically on a par with UK prices. There is a danger that Vassiliki is becoming over-developed and could easily end up looking like Nidri a few miles further up the coast - which would be a crying shame.
Restaurants: The Penguin, Miramar, The Dolphin and the Grill-bar in the centre of town all offer reasonable quality food. The Plane Tree in the next village also is good.
Bars: If you want to drink weak lager at high prices until 4am to loud music then the Vass Bar/Zeus Bar are the places to go. For that smoky, jass-club environment with smooth music and an individual atmosphere then it's the Tunnel Bar. For some live music and early night after getting wiped out on the water try the Wildwind Hotel on a Tuesday evening.
