It wasn't that bad
It's not a resort at all, but for the price it's not a bad hotel. We didn't try the hot tub, so I'm not sure if it worked or not. They don't give you enough towels, so bring couple of beach towels. Don't expect do really do any cooking in the kitchen, there aren't utensils. You have a microwave, frig, blender and a couple of plates. We read the reviews before we went so we weren't expecting much and weren't disappointed. We thought the staff were very nice.
ants, theives, and cucarachas
The stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing. It is in desperate need of repairs, it was dirty...the windows leaked when it rained, rooms were under stocked...no Kleenex, washcloths, hand towels, cooking utensils. We had many problems with ants and roaches. The staff wasn't very reliable, we were supposed to be getting a two bedroom room overlooking the ocean, they rented it out to someone else. The Jacuzzi didn't work, the maid did the bare minimum and helped themselves to $100.00 out of my purse, I just went down to the pool and... more
looks are deceiving
In trying to book this hotel, I came across several problems just trying to get in touch with someone. If you book on line...they won't help you on the phone....and vise versa! I confirmed my reservation and within 1 hour I called back to cancel, because I made an error in the date and my husband was traveling that week with work. I tried to cancel it and they charged me $75!!! I had not even received the confirmation by email yet!!! While I was on the phone cancelling, I received the email.... If this is the attitiude before I... more
Must have been givin out 5 stars out easy that day
Very disappointed with the hotel. We thought 5 stars meant 5 stars......mislead on that point. Positives on the hotel is it's central location and beach. Negatives are too many to mention but i'll give a few. Musty smell in the room when we checked in. Ants in the room. I must have hit my head several times when i went for a shower because the ceiling was so low....btw i'm not goliath!! The whole room and bathroom was tiled. Loads of tiles chiped. Plastic presses....never saw that before. The drone of traffic... more
Checked in and out in a record 10 minutes.
Having arrive tired, we had problems findind the entrance to the Hotel. We checked in to our so called suite overlooking road and Shopping area, room was smelly and need airing..we had requested a sea view not available..we were offeres another room..similar problems. We got alternative accommodation in The Avolon down the road. Was I sorry I didn't check this site.
Funky Architecture But Beware!
Our visit was late Dec. 04. The architecture is funky and interesting. Our room was 30x16 with many windows and a 25' tall ceiling with exposed beams leading from corners to the center window well that was maybe 3' tall through the roof and contained 2 clerestory windows. Very interesting. As other reviewers note.. there are a lot of steps in this place. The lobby is between 2-3 levels up from the street level or the beach level. The rooms go up to what would be the 4-5 level from the lobby (count 'em up, from the beach you are making... more
Quaint Mexican villa-like experience.
Just spent a week between Christmas and New Years '05. After reading the reviews here, my wife and I lowered our expectations of this hotel before we got there. Therefore we were pleasantly surprised by what we found. Our two bedroom suite had a great view of the ocean and pool. No bugs, the phone worked, but the staff is very stingy with the bottled water and coffee in the room. After two days they started charging for any water requests and my wife learned that you shouldn't drink the tap water no matter how safe they say it is. The... more
Remember that you are still in Mexico....
This is a pretty nice little place for Mexico, but watch out for the timeshare salespeople. They promised bottled water in our room every day, we never had it, even after we asked. They screwed up our reservation and didn't have a transfer from the airport. The room was in pretty tough shape, windows cloudy and the doors didn't fit very well (warped), and we had the one they use in the brochure, but it was still an overall pleasant environment. The beds are hard as a rock, but this is not baccara problem, it is a Mexico problem. The... more
So Disappointed
Just got back from spending time at the Baccara. So disappointing. After not having a vacation for over a year (business expansion) and having only 4 days, this seemed to be the perfect, intimate setting. With only 28 rooms we knew we wouldn't have throngs of people and noise to contend with, as we were really in need of R&R. We booked the "honeymoon suite" (two decks w/double jacuzzi) because we just wanted to pamper ourselves for 4 days. Imagine our horror when we arrived to find the "honeymoon suite" on the 4th floor, with NO ELEVATOR,... more
Wouldn't stay here again.
My wife and I stayed at the Avalon Baccara Hotel in Cancun from 4-10 September 2004. We were very disappointed in the quality of the hotel and service. We stayed in two different rooms at the hotel because halfway through our stay they moved us to a different honeymoon suite which was unrequested and very inconvenient. We made the reservation online through Expedia and reserved a Honeymoon suite with "views of the Lagoon and ocean". From the very beginning the service was substandard. When the van dropped us off at the hotel,... more
