" great holidays with sport, and relaxing moments "

As sportive and adventurous couple we wanted to have a combination of outdoor activities and relaxing moments during our short vacation of three days.
Saxon Switzerland in general, and the Elbblick-Pension in particular, proved to be exactly the right choice for that.
First of all we had no problems getting there. We simply arrived via sub-urban train from Dresden, doesn’t take long and brings you directly in the nature. The hostel itself is very charming. The rooms are big and very welcoming - perfect to relax and to store any kind of equipment for outings. The large eat-in kitchen and the terrace are ideal for having meals even with more than five people and the view on the river Elbe is really paying off. We used the terrace especially for breakfast and for more relaxed moments when playing cards or organizing trips. Being surrounded by nature triggers a certain desire to explore all the natural events of the region.
Two of the activities we did are especially recommendable:
A one-day outing combing cycling and canoeing. We simply went on the beautiful cycle-path along the river Elbe and got to the canoe-station within 25 minutes. There you get some simple instructions and off you go, anything between 3 and 6 hours down the river is possible. The service team of the canoe-station is very friendly - they even brought our bikes to the place we got off the canoe so that we could cycle back. When cycling upstream your pass some gorgeous villages, where a stop for a coffee is simply a must. The mountain fortress of the 'Bastei’ is especially recommendable and the view is just fantastic once you climbed up there.
Our second outing was a trip to the Hentschelstiege.
Once again we took our bikes to get around and it took us not more than 30 minutes until we arrived. The Hentschelstiege is an ideal trip for not very advanced climbers that still want be right in the middle of the mountains. No special equipment is necessary, just bring some solid shoes along. The ascent goes along robes and the towering rocks and dark clefts make you looking for more of that. After reaching the top you are rewarded with a great view and a nice forest hike back to the point you started from.
All in all a very great stay in a more than charming hostel within wonderful nature.

Advice: very nice and charming town, not too big and with restaurants offering local cuisine.

Activities: Waterfalls, Fort Königstein, Steamboats,nature

Good for: City Breaks
