My boyfriend & I stayed for two weeks at the end of May 2011 and both of us agree that this is the best all-round hotel we have ever stayed in.
The hotel is beautiful outside and inside, in an old colonial style - all whitewash and wicker...
We had paid extra for a sea view and I'm pleased we did - the room was on the top floor and had the most amazing view overlooking the infinity pool below and onto the turquoise sea. The room had free optics and a well stocked free mini-bar - refilled every other day.
The staff were very friendly and thoughtful, they remembered your favourite drink and provided an almost steady stream of them throughout the day.
It was a really chilled out environment, although children are welcome, in reality there wasn't anything for them to do and the heat would have been hard for children to cope with.
I would certainly go back to this hotel again, it was right in the heart of Cancun, walking distance to the shops and bars and had a very sheltered beach and pool.
We went with Thomas Cook - I wouldn't choose them again as the flight was just awful - they take a budget airline approach to long haul travel and charged for everything.

But once at the hotel, it wouldn't matter who you booked with, as the hotel took care of all your holiday needs and provided the excellent service throughout. The only minor improvement they could make would be to provide more parasols around the pool - as it was so hot, you need the shade.

This hotel is the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
The staff where extremely friendly and could not do enough for you. The restaurants where fab, all you could want, particularly the Brazilian and the steak house.
The hotel is well worth saving up all year for, and I would recommend it! Great accommodation!

Superb hotel what can I say. 6 restaurants to eat in Spanish, Gourmet, Japanese, Brazilian, Steak House and a running Buffet and finally an Italian (lunch only). The food quality and the service where out of this world. Me and my wife have just got back here after our honeymoon and we can only fault one thing - Americans.
Yes the majority are fine and decent people but the others are very noisy and drunken bordering on down right rude. But do not let this put you off staying in an outstanding hotel. The rooms are massive if the bed a little hard but after drinking and eating plenty this will be the least of your worries when settling down for a good nights sleep.
The mini bar stocked in the room has bottles of corona beer, Pepsi and 7up with enough water to refill the pool. This mini bar is free and gets stocked everyday. The staff in general where superb. But, don’t use the phones in the room! 8 calls totaling 25 mins back to blighty = $115.00 USD. That did put a dampener on checking out of the Hotel. The pools are nice and clean and very big with a swim up bar at one. They also have a gym and god knows why a hot tub just in case 90 degrees just isn’t enough for you.
Again the food is superb from breakfast to supper its all there for you from Hamburgers right up to superb Japanese and our particular flavoured choice Spanish. The waiters at the restaurants and the bars are friendly and polite and get use to having your glass constantly refilled. Sit by the pool and the waiters will bring you countless supplies of drinks when you ask. Do tip them a dollar or so because these guys and girls really look after you. The beach and water are just like they are in the pictures.
Blue sea and white sand. The beach stretches itself around the corner to the Riu Cancun where you can also use there facilities and do take them up on this offer. If I can finish with one bit of advice. Don’t do Cancun on the cheap. Spend as much as you can and you will be rewarded. I can honestly say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at in my life, we met some great British people, even if they are few and far between in the hotel. And some new life long friends. Honestly endure the 10 hr flight and enjoy 2 weeks that will feel like two days when you are there.

This holiday was one of the best yet . The service ,food, rooms and the staff were fantastic. I don’t think I can find fault with anything about the hotel , but I have to admit the Americans were noisy but DONT let that put you off staying in this hotel . It would be a holiday to remember .
I am booking the same hotel for next year.
Swimming with the dolphins is something everyone should consider , it is for all ages ,and I’m scared of water but still did it .
The excursions are very expensive when you book with the rep, but you can get them cheaper across the road.
We also went on the fun day on a boat DONT BOTHER this we booked from our rep it was a waste of money and wasn’t cheap either.
If you cant get in the nightlife because you are too young or have a family there is still lots to do in the evening , all the shops are open till late ,and just walking around where the clubs are there are artists on the streets and people braiding hair and little stalls selling souvenirs ,that in itself is entertaining

We were at the Riu Palace from the 11th May for 2 weeks, what can I say.... amazing!! The hotel is absolutely fantastic, the service provided by the staff is great, they would do anything for you and were so helpful and friendly. We didn’t have any problems getting sunloungers or parasols even after 11am in the morning and always managed to get a reservation for the speciality restaurants even if it was after 9am in the morning. If you wanted the Japanese restaurant that was very popular so you had to be early to book that. Food was good although it tended to be catered more for the Americans as more or less everything was fried which we were getting a bit fed up with by the end of the 2 weeks. Drinks were excellent and the mini bar restocked every other day.
The hotel was more for couples and we found that we were one of the youngest ones there (early 20's) but I wouldn’t say it is a hotel for Kids as there wasn’t much for them to do.
The rooms were deluxe, they had a sunken living area and his and hers sinks in the bathroom. There is maid service twice a day and the towels are changed twice a day.
If you’re going to do any excursions book at the shopping centre opposite as our Airtours Rep was wanting nearly double what we paid there. Watch out for the timeshare people in the shopping centre that sell you an excursion cheaper but get you with a timeshare clause, just avoid RCI and you will be fine. Would definitely recommend the jungle tour, its fun! Swam with dolphins on Isla Mujeres, which was one of the best experiences of my life (booked that through the rep as it was cheaper!) If you decide to try any of the clubs, you’ve got to go to Coco Bongo’s, but be prepared to tip even if you are on the open bar. Just have loads of loose change to put in their box. Coco Bongos was excellent and we would have went back again if we could have afforded it but it worked out about $50 each for the open bar but was well worth it, what a show it put on!
The entertainment was disappointing at the hotel as it repeated itself every week so if you’re there for 2 weeks you will see the same show on the 2nd week. The entertainment also finished really early at 10.45pm which was surprising as thought it would have went on till later. You can go to the RIU Cancun next door where there was a disco from 11pm.
If you are going to eat in a restaurant outside of the hotel there is a little Italian Restaurant opposite called Roma and the food is excellent. Would highly recommend it and the prices are very reasonable - Pasta Dish around $8USD and Steak around $13USD which is very good as some larger steakhouses were more than double that. The people that own it are really friendly too.
The only negative thing I have to say about the holiday is the Americans, they are so loud and act like they own the place, slamming doors and shouting in the corridors after midnight. They don’t have any respect for anybody else. I know they are on holiday like everybody and want to have a good time but they are so loud constantly. If you are British be prepared for this. (Take some earplugs!!!!)
We would definitely return to Mexico but would go down the coast where it is quieter and would probably go to the RIU Palace in Playa Car.

Have Fun!
