Hotel Giraffe

You gotta love this place!! Where else in NYC can you get a "free" breakfast and cocktail hour with a piano player for under $300.00? As an avid Trip Advisor reader, I relied heavily on the reviews I read about the Giraffe. Thanks for not letting me down.

Made the decision to stay at the Giraffe largely due to the shortage of available rooms, at decent prices, over the duration of our visit to NY. I am happy to say we were not disappointed. The room was large, comfortable and well furnished. The staff was friendly and were very accommodating to our late check out request. Was also impressed that reception got us a table in a renowned NY restaurant, albeit owned by the same people as the hotel, with a couple of hours notice on a holiday weekend. Great hotel with a wonderful staff. I wanted a hotel with a bit of charm and personality rather than the usual chain-megalith. Hotel Giraffe was all I hoped it would be. Charming rooms, friendly staff, great location. Hotel is just far enough out to make driving and parking reasonable, yet easily walkable to great sites. We look forward to visiting again.

I went to NYC for business mid-Feb 05 and stayed in the Giraffe for 4 nights because of its proximity to the office. Its location is good for travel downtown and uptown on the 6 subway. The room was rather dry in taste. Nothing stands out about the decor. Room was reasonable size but bathroom was a little cramped. The lobby area doubles as a lounge for both breakfast and drinks throughout the day. Cold breakfast is included which is a bonus and much appreciated. We stayed here while I was attending a conference at Jacob Jarvis Center last week. What a great hotel experience. I lived in New York some number of years ago and have been back to visit a few times. This was by far the best hotel experience that I have had in NY. We were in 7th floor room. It was lovely. The room was nice and very elegant. The service was outstanding. We would go again in a heartbeat!!!!

Ok, just so that you know - I am one of the fussiest hotel guests in the world. I have stayed in some of the world's best hotels and I am not easily impressed. Now with that in mind... if you are looking for real luxury, then the Giraffe is not for you. Stay at the Plaza, Ritz or Waldorf. If you are looking for the trendiest place in town, then again this is not for you - stay at the Hudson or the Gansevoort or Soho House. We booked the 'superior' suite for $425 a night. Following the ecstatic Tripadvisor reviews, we thought Hotel Giraffe would make a perfect ending to our 4 night stay in New York. We arrived at 1.45pm and our room was not ready. Fair enough, we were a little early but then we were told that the hotel did not possess a bar! Before I chose the Hotel Giraffe, I read hundreds of reviews. My head was spinning and I wavered back and forth between several old, well established hotels and this new boutique hotel before finally deciding. I stayed there by myself during spring 2004, and was amazed at the great service, CLEAN rooms, relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful amenities. My suite overlooked Park Avenue, and had a lovely view, unlike many hotels where you look out onto a lovely airshaft. The rooms with a Juliet balcony are awesome!
