Quinta dos Tres Rios

In many years of travelling, we can honestly say that we have never come across such a warm welcome as arriving at Hugh and Jane’s off-the-beaten-track lovely old house. We weren’t even booked in, just travelling in northern Portugal looking for places to stay as we went. It made no difference; they greeted us like old friends. David & I spent a lovely week at Quinta Dos Tres Rios. Hugh & Jane have restored this stunning farmhouse into the most comfortable household. Their hospitality was outstanding along with their help in planning our daily trips. Penny and I flew to Porto from Bristol with Ryanair.The flight was very easy and we were met by Hugh at Porto airport.We had hired a car in advance but Hugh had taken the trouble to come down to Porto airport with Jane so as to guide us back to the house which is an hour and a half drive away.Quinta dos Tres Rios is situated in a beautiful valley overlooking the Rio Pavia which has kingfishers,dippers and a family of otters . What a second stay. Sunshine and good food for 7 days. Sampled the house wine from 2006 vintage-direct from the Oak barrels. The owner Hugh Forestier-Walker was invited to join the local Wild Boar hunt and I was also included breakfast at 7 am till 10 then off on a great day. See my picture I stayed in the Vineyard suite. Quinta Dos Tres Rios means three rivers and the hotel is at the point where they all meet. Its STUNNING! You can do cultural stuff or just relax or you can do both. Brill. Family run and very special. My stay at Quinta Dos Tres Rios was fantastic. The hotel is family run and has recently been restored back to its full beauty. We were welcomed with enthusiasm by Jane and Hugh who immediately made us feel "at home" and relaxed. We thoroughly enjoyed their hospitality and the excellent meals prepared and cooked by their daughter Caroline. We were very comfortable in their lovingly restored Portuguese farmhouse which maintains original features whilst being updated for modern living. I have stayed at Quinta dos Tres Rios more than once. The standard of accommodation is superb, and the advice on the local area is second to none. I would recommend to anyone staying in this area of Portugal

The Qunita dos Tres Rios is a fantastic place in a lovely location. The Forrestier-Walker family are all brilliant and work very hard to look after your every need from a great breakfast with lots of lovely locally grown ingredients (I loved the home grown strawberries and raspberries), ensuring we had a bottle of water and a cool bag when we went out each day, to a superb gourmet meal each evening if you wanted it.. My wife and I (Noga and Gabi Schimmel, from Israel) spent the first week of June in the Quinta Dos Tres Rios. This was one of the loveliest vacations we have ever had. Great acomodation, great and most friendly hospitality and company. The Forestier-Walker family accepted us as part of their own family, and helped us also with our daily plans. I have had the pleasure of staying at Quinta dos Tres Rios twice now, once in 2005 and once in 2006. Hugh and Jane, and their daughter Caroline, made us feel very welcome and I would like to congratulate them on the amazing job they have done restoring this once old and disused Portuguese farmhouse, into the most delightful retreat for others to enjoy.
