Sang Kha Ou Resort & Spa Reviews

8 good reasons NOT to go to Sang Kha Ou resort
1 / 10
Feb 2012, pachenga

We were looking for a quiet place on Koh Lanta, and had the bad idea to trust the lonely planet.
1. Obnoxious personnel
The personnel at Sang Kha Ou resort, is absolutely obnoxious, from the start to the very end. Otto, the "manager", literally jump on people coming to visit the place, saying: If you don't buy anything here, you can't come in nor take pictures.
2. You are a walking wallet
The only thing in which people from Sang Kha Ou are interested in, is money. The only thing Otto can talk about is money: "when do you pay, how you pay?", extremely pushy.
Then, everything there is at least 3 times more expensive than anywhere else on the island. A Pad Thai (fried noodles) should cost 30 baths on the continent, and 50 on islands. At Sang Kha Ou, a Pad Thai cost 150 baths, a shake is 100 Baths (instead of 30), etc... The list is endless.
3. You're trapped
This resort is 10kms far from anything else, meaning that you'll be trapped if you stay there. We asked to rent a motorbike: It cost 350 Baths (elsewhere on the island it's 150-200). The motorbike they got us had no rear break, so I told this to Otto, and asked for another motorbike the next day. He said: Sure no problem... The next day, Otto woke us up to ask for the key of our unsafe motorbike, and gave it to Australian guys we've met earlier. He told us: "You're motorbike is on the way, you should have it in less than an hour". An hour and a half later, we ask for the motorbike we already paid, and they told us "there is no motorbike available today. Why don't you stay here and chill"!!! If you read other comments on trip advisor, you'll recognize this sentence!! THEY PURPOUSLY TRAP YOU IN THE RESORT SO YOU CAN EAT AND DRINK THERE!!
We told him we had a deal and that he has to provide us a Motorbike, but on his opinion, we had to pay for a cab, and go rent a motorbike on our own elsewhere! Otto doesn't even understand what a deal is, and that it was his responsibility to provide us the service we've paid for.
4. The personnel lie to you
We got into an argument about the motorbike (see point 3), and the boss (Otto's sister) told us: "in 7 years of business, this is the first time that such situation happens". Please go read other comments, and you'll see that other people than me reported the exact same story. I told you, they trap you there so you can spend your money.
5. They don't care about your safety
If you have read point 3, you'll realize that Otto gave a motorbike to his customers, knowing that the bike was not safe (no rear brake).
6. The place is dirty
We got a treehouse. Of course, it is full of bugs. Some animal even ate our bananas, and made holes in our eastpak backpaks (ferocious animal) to eat some left over almonds. This was actually quite funny. The bad part is that the room was not done, only the bed. The ashtray was full of old smokes, and the garbages were full, even in the bathroom. We had to sak for towels and soap.
7. Where is the spa?
Seriously, where is the spa?
8. There are plenty of nice places on Koh Lanta, especially on the south west coast.
Conclusion:
Sang Ga Ou resort survives because it is still in the lonely planet, but provide the worst service we ever found in Thailand, and we've been travelling all over Thailand for a month.

You want to enjoy Koh Lanta? Go somewhere else!

Hi,
I've just spent a week on Koh Lanta and found the most beautiful, peaceful, isolated resort on the island. Sang Kha Ou resort is on Lanta's eastern side, at the end of the road and borders the Mu Koh Lanta national park. I heard about this place from a man I met at a street cafe in Bangkok and came to find it during my stay here and very glad I did.
I stayed in a tree house for a week, listening to the sounds of the jungle, the waves lapping on the shore and hearing the occasional long tail boat coming in and out of the harbours at the nearby Sea Gypsy communities. The resort has more unusual accommodation - boat houses, a Thai style house, stone and cave houses. Swimming is possible from the resort, although we took the resorts long tail boat to the nearby national park's sandy beach and trekked through the jungle back to the resort. The place has a beautiful restaurant with a chef from a five star hotel. Like most resorts here, they also offer a pick up service from Saladan pier and other resorts on Koh Lanta. This is an ideal location for nature lovers, adventurers and anyone looking for a peaceful stay away from the busier west coast. Contact them via email at [--]
Cheers
