I’d always dreamed of visiting Mexico and my dream came true with me and my boyfriend staying in Cancun for two weeks having a great time. The hotel was lovely with all the facilities you needed there, every type of food you could ever wish for and friendly staff at your... more

Perfect hotel for young couple not afraid of some bugs
I spent 13 days with my boyfriend in this hotel in November, and I met very nice people there. Of course this is not a wonderful hotel like the Hilton or the Sheraton, but look at the prices! And come on, this is Mexico! You are here to enjoy the cultural differences. Moreover, if you ask to, you can get a very nice room, very big, with a view on the lagoon and a large balcony. The thing is that you should not go there if you have luxurious taste. This is a perfect hotel for young people who don't have much money and who like to talk with people. The front desk's guys are lovely; if you speak spanish, they will appreciate you more. As my title says, there are some bugs... But you don't look at them or you tell the front desk and they come to clean. The maids are lovely and even wash your plates. And the restaurant is excellent; a little bit expensive comparing to small Mexican restaurants but it is a Belgian restaurant, the chief is Belgian and the food is delicious. Perfect hotel if you are eager to discover real Mexican life.
Give the Laguna a break!
Stayed there July 2004. For the price, definitely above average. Big rooms, air conditioning, balcony, kitchenette, huge shower room. Bit run down - cracked marble floors a bit stained in places, no lift. Furniture adequate but not luxurious. Staff friendly and helpful, grounds well kept and attractive, (Belgian!) restaurant definitely above average. OK not a place to stay if you want to be in the room all the time, but fine if you want a good, comfortable base from which to explore the area. Much quieter than the "strip". Easy access to taxis or buses to go downtown Cancun.
At Least We Have Stories
Where to Begin? We could tell what kind of place it was the minute we saw the place. And even though we knew that you usually "get what you pay for," this was ridiculous. Bugs everywhere, NO CABLE/13" semi color tv, forget guest relations, there are none and all we ever got out of the shower was luke warm water. Despite this, we did not pay much to stay there and we were in Cancun. They did have a/c. It was ok I guess, because we spent most of our time out on the town.
I thought it was a nice hotel for a great price.
I went to Cancun for the first time in 2001 and a friend and I stayed at the Imperial Laguna, and he and I thought it was very nice for the price and all you ever really do in a hotel is shower, sleep and you know what, so what is the difference? We got to spend a week in Cancun for a very reasonable price...so reasonable in fact that NOW I have decided to take my children ages 18 and 16 there next week and stay at the Imperial Laguna again. I like a quieter smaller hotel, they really do care about you, and you know it, it is within walking distance of everything, and their is also always a cab waiting if you prefer that. I really enjoyed it. Thanks! I highly recommend this hotel if you are on a tight budget, yet really want to go to Mexico!!!
Perfect if you are ONLY going to sleep there!
I had a reservation for 6/11/04 to 6/15/04. I knew the minute we turned down the little side street and pulled up in front of this hotel that this was NOT the place for me. I immediately came in and called my travel agent to have my room changed, and the guy at expedia who did that for me was excellent. I have to give them credit as the hotel did waive any cancellation fees. I should have checked Trip Advisor before booking! There were ant trails everywhere, it smelled bad, furniture was nasty looking. We talked to a guy there who was checking out after staying for 2 weeks, he said they had an inch of water all over the floor, he called the front desk and he just sent a maid to mop the water! The internet add for it was VERY misleading. They neglected to mention the crocs in the lagoon also! This is a place that the natives live in, so if you book an efficiency with a kitchenette, etc., don't expect to get one as the mexicans who live there need those rooms. I got changed over to the hilton, excellent hotel, top of the line service, staff and resort, I will definently stay at the Hilton again!
Imperial Laguna
Prior leaving to Cancun, I've checked all the possible reviews about Imperial Laguna. I kinda knew it was a hole in the wall type of hotel so I knew what to expect...I have to say it is not that bad for the price we paid. They did make some major lock and restaurant improvements while we there. If you're goin to Cancun to party I highly recommend this place since it is close to Hotel Zone. We went Sun thru Thursday but next time we have to stay at least Monday thru Saturday to go visit the Ruins or something.
above average for mexico
Nice restaurant Staff friendly (from desk people only) The big problem in imperial is , you have to walk to get to the beaches Not Cable tv only Spanish chanel But for the prices is ok Remember this is mexico

This hotel is a perfect example of the saying"you get what you pay for" The location was in the hotel zone, however the property it was on looked like a landfill. The view of the lagoon loooked like one big mud puddle. You could never get any sun because the hotel blocked the sun from the pool. The resturant however was good. The service was terrible and all the employees just wanted your money for any type of service.
Don't do it
My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel in October. We are budget travelers with not much money and we can endure most inconveniences and problems like terrible food or broken shower heads, etc. However, I just couldn't get past the bugs. There was a great big trail of ants making their way around the place on the walls and in the bathroom. There were geckos inside on the walls in the last place we stayed in Cancun, but I still managed to give that place a good review. Of course the ant/insect problem at Laguna did not ruin our vacation, but I recommend that you pay the extra $10 or $15 per person to get a slightly better hotel. Laguna had a decent pool and a restaurant which was pretty expensive and there was a little taco place out on Blvd Kukulkan that was good and cheap, but even Imperial Las Perlas may be a slightly better choice than this place. The picture of it looks nice, but don't be fooled, unless you don't mind little critters crawling all over the room!
Great value
Basic hotel for 31usd a night in Dec. 2003. We did not expect much and it was better than our expectation. We needed a base for travel and spend no day time there. Kitchenette is a nice plus. No roaches. The weird smell comes from whatever they use for mopping floors but opening the window solves that problem. If somebody wants to stay a lot on the hotel grounds - different hotel is not a bad idea. The rooms are not that bad and probably comparable to Sheraton where I stayed last time. Hotel grounds are uncomparably better at the Sheraton.
