This year I stayed at Cabarete Surfcamp and it was one of my best vacations. I booked a tropical style bungalow and was very happy with it, the room was clean and cosy, also my breakfast and dinner were included in the lodging. it was fun to meet other solo travelers from about 6 different countries on the large table at the camp restaurant, the food was great, I loved Churrasco and the atmosphere. every morning there were a shuttle going to the surf beach and I was surprise that in 3 days I could already stand up on the surfboard and ride the wave down! in the town there are couple good bars, where we went with our group, I felt like to be in a big family! Friendly people, good service, great food. For sure I will go back there!

we stayed at Alis Cabarete Surfcamp during the first week of january 09 and just loved it.
we had the special offer for 333 US one week including breakfast, dinner, room and surf lessons. The surf was great, i managed to get up on the board the first day.
The on site restaurant has great food and offers always something different for the house guest. You will almost instantly meet other travelers to hang out with or go surfing together.
the town has some purely caribbean nightlife and there is always something going on at some bar.
the playa grande trip is a must even for non surfers !!
my overall rating concerning quality and value is 5 out of 5
i will be back

Four of us total rented the Tarzan Treehouse for 3 nights which included 2 basic rooms and a kitchen for $140 a night. There were TONS on mosquitos and the windows in the kitchen were missing, so there was no escape from them while in the kitchen. It is far removed from the beach. When we arrived, the dishes in the kitchen were dirty, and there was no soap in the bathrooms. When I went down stairs to inquire about soap, the manager at the front desk told me that she didn't have time to talk to me, even though she did not seem to be with other clients. We did not receive soap, and had to buy our own. We slept in one morning past the 8:30 departure of the shuttle to the surfing beach and took public transport which cost about 50 cents US because we didn't want to have to wait until the next shuttle at 300pm to surf. We saw the driver for Cabarete Surf Camp at the beach later in the day, and asked if we could get a ride back with him if we paid. He told us "no way" in the rudest form possible. We decided to walk to the road and he drove the shuttle past us without slowing down and saying something at us out of the window. The staff is incredibly, incredibly RUDE. The service and cleanliness were lacking, and the rooms we rented were WAY overpriced. I do not recommend this place to anyone. There are many great places to stay in Cabarete (we have stay in Cab half a dozen times) -- this is not one of them. Read reviews of other travelers dealing with staff. The actions of the staff affected our stay in Cabarete in a very negative manner.
