Booked the Commercial Hotel in manchester to stay over one night with a friend for a party in the city. Having left it til the last minute and with a limited budget, we found the Commercial online and happily booked a room for £25 each, which at £50 a room is not really that cheap!
On arriving it was plain this was not a hotel at all- actually a pub with a few guest rooms above it. The staff were friendly enough, but the decor was dated and faded, wires were coming out of the walls and there was random furniture obviously abandoned in the corridors. Our room seemed clean enough on first inspection- but we soon realised the bathroom smelt of urine, the window didnt close properly (not a good thing, in november!), and upon trying to make coffee to heat ourselves up, realised there was a large dead insect in the coffee jar.
There was a tv, which only showed blurry or static images on every channel.
The pub downstairs actually looked nice enough, but when we walked through it to go out for the night, felt very indimidated by it's population of drunk middle aged men. Apparentley they did food, but we certainly didnt fancy eating there.
If youre looking for a place to stay overnight in manchester, fork out £20 more and stay at the Ibis! Definatley not reccomended for females travelling alone.
