Having just returned from a holiday staying in Jake's Cottage at Doxford Farm cottages I can only say we were rather disapointed. What was a distinctly average cottage could have been made more attractive with a little imagination and some attention to detail. The brochure... more

Management response from Richard Shell, Manager 05 Jul 2011

Thank you for taking the time to carry out a review of Doxford Farm Cottages. We are deeply disappointed that you were not satisfied with your stay in Jakes Cottage. I would like to take this opportunity to comment on some of the statements you have made within your review. Our shop and coffee shop was closed last summer, due to a decline in customers, however our games room is up and running and has proved to be a great success with our customers. There are clear directions within each cottages handbook which shows where our games room is located. The games room is well equipped with sky plus, pool table and table tennis. Our brochure is now being phased out which mentions the Farm Shop. At Doxford Farm Cottages we always endeavour to welcome all guests into their accommodation. However, if guests arrive out of hours this may not be feasible. A member of the family will always meet guests at some point during the first few days of our customer’s holiday. There is always someone on the farm to answer any questions or queries. I therefore apologise if you were not welcomed by any of the family. With regards to the pictures on the website, these are of all from Jakes Cottage. We ask guest to give us feedback immediately if appliances or fixtures and fittings do not work correctly. In this case, we did not receive this feedback; therefore we weren’t given the opportunity to rectify the issues. We endeavour to repair all problems as soon as possible. With regards to our “back yard” as clearly stated in our cottage handbook, under the section of future plans dated summer 2011 – we are planning to landscape the area with a new BBQ area. We do however stress to guests that this area is for drying clothes; therefore gravel surface is paramount as grass would simply turn into a mud bath with constant use and wet conditions. I would like to mention that we have 550 acres of unspoilt farmland for our visitors to use and explore. We advertise that our cottages are in a terrace row, therefore we can’t guarantee privacy outside the cottages. If a private garden was requested then we could offer a cottage which has a private garden (Northside or East End). I would like to stress that Jakes Cottage is a 3 star cottage therefore fresh flowers are not part of our product. We offer comfortable, affordable family farm cottages which we receive excellent feedback from. I know of other 5 star cottages within the surrounding area that don’t place fresh flowers in their cottages! Therefore we feel with the high standard of artificial flowers available on the market they substitute fresh flowers effectively. Once again, thank you for your feedback. If you wish to discuss any of the comments I have made please don’t hesitate to contact me. Kind Regards, Richard Shell

We have recently had a fantastic group holiday in seven of these cottages. The cottages were all clean and well equipped. Although the weather was cold, the owners supplied us with loads of logs for the wood burning stoves. We were able to get together at night either in one of the larger cottages or in the party room.
