" nice but noisy "

ust returned from hols in above hotel.rooms were clean n spacious but being a family of 5 we were put in the annex.due to no air con. u have t keep doors open at night to be able to breath due to heat.because of this u get all noise from people coming out of nearby pubs that dont shut till 5am.when u do finally manage to drop off the road sweeper does is daily rounds about 7am combined with barking dogs over road. get 3 to 4 hours sleep if lucky.also if wamt a sunbed u have got to queue in reception until they open doors at 9am then join mad rush.this led to several arguments and even police being callre 1 day when a fight broke out.staff friendly.great resort for all ages and will return but not to these apartments.

Advice: great resort with plenty to do

Activities: woody woodpeckers serve great meals

Good for: Beach

" dont stay in 2 or 3 bed annex properties "

this complex is disgusting i so wish i could add photos and you would see exactley what i mean. the thomson rep Abi was amasing but everyone else was so unhelpful,
smoke alarm fell off the ceiling hit my husband on the head, bare wires hanging out of the walls and ceilings, non working rusty old fridge( replaced after 11 days of moaning,3 days before holiday ended)the annex building is dangerous we were in a 3 bed apartment window locks missing, holes in the ceiling (you could see the waste pipes which had leaked and the smell was nasty. room 120 is the one we were in and they would not move us.... AVOID THESE APARTMENTS

Advice: nice beach, hassled by resturant owners for you to go in there premises

Activities: beach

" Good times "

Having read the last report I am shocked at the views expressed, I along with 12 other members of the party enjoyed our holiday at the apartments. Although no air con the rooms were clean and spacious (if you read the reviews they tell you there is no air con so be prepared) The staff were fantastic and friendly. It is family orientated if, you want quiet with no kids go somewhere else!!!. Alcudia is an excellent place to visit and relax beach is great and only a short walk form the apartments. The comment about northerners is no better than the comment about Frankie G being racist. Frankie was good with the kids and got them involved in the entertainment early (which is the role of an entertainer suerly) the entertainment did become more adult as the night went on IE after 11pm. I can't fault the apartments, staff, location or resort. They tried to accomodate all tastes during the entertainment however due to the range of guests and the spread of ages they can't please everyone all of the time. I didn't experience any out of control kids what I experienced was familys enjoying thier holidays and relaxing!!! No matter where you go in majorca or mainland spain you encounter british pubs and resturants if you dont want this don't go to popular holiday resorts, hire a villa outside the resorts.
I can't find any faults with this hotel and resort, our party had a very relaxing and memorable holiday and can't wait to go back next year.
We found Bugs Bunny's the best value for money and range of food available. the staff are friendly, cheers bar is also good but we prefered Bugs Bunny's.
We did however get feed up being pestered by street sellers asking if you want your hair brading. The market in the old town was good but you can buy the same things in the shops near the hotel cheaper.
The port area is excellent, however the big silver boat has nothing to do with the shumachers, it belongs to a german business man (this info came from people at the port who have their own boats docked there)
our appartment was in the annex overlooking woody woodpeckers and the sportsmans bar, all went quiet at around 12 you can't expect any better than this you are on holiday after all. Everthing about the holiday, resort, hotel and Thompson reps was excellent no complaints at all. I didn't have a single durger or chips. if you walk along the strip there are some excellent places to eat without getting burger and chips, get out and explore the resort is fantastic.

Advice: Great for families

Activities: The Port and old town is great for sightseeing and bugs bunny's for good food

Good for: Beach

" Disappointed "

Myself and my boyfriend booked an 11nights holiday last minute so we weren't expecting luxury but what we encountered pretty much appaulled us.
I have been to Alcudia before a few years ago and loved it, but after this holiday I would never return there!
Firstly, the hotel was a shocker. There is no air conditioning which means you have to sleep with the patio doors wide open all night even though the noise of the rubbish hotel entertainment and the nearby trashy British pubs are unbearably loud until the early hours!
The pool area is far too small for the number of guests and you'll be lucky to get a sunbed if you go down to the pool any later than 10am. If you do get a lounger you won't stay around long because of all the other guests that go to this hotel and their out of control children with no discipline or respect for other people. Our experience of the other guests were that they were predominantly Northern and were incredibly rude, the majority smoked non stop and didnt care if young children were nearby, they also seemed only concerned about making use of the all inclusive booze at the pool bar rather than supervising their own kids.
The hotel food is rubbish and stereotypical English food - burgers and chips! The same as all the English bars and clubs around the hotel. You can't even walk down the street without being harrassed to go inside and eat - It gets very frustrating! It's rare to see anywhere selling any traditional Spanish food.
However, the biggest shock of this holiday was the entertainer of the hotel, Frankie G, who based himself on Frank from the TV show Shameless as he is a dead ringer for him. Everyday he repeated the same activities; volleyball in the pool in the morning, rifle shooting in the afternoon, bingo and raffle in the evening (which he often got kids on holiday to run for him!) along with something like Mrs Sol De Alcudia. The shows started at 10pm which is very late for families with young children and also very irritating if you just want to go to sleep because the music (which is the same music repeated every 4 or so hours) doesn't stop until about 1am. He also made several racist jokes about Muslims!! This is completely unacceptable anyway, let alone in a resort full of children.
On the plus side, Alcudia beach is beautiful and the port area is brilliant. We managed to get some photos of Ralph Schmaucher's huge boat.
To sum up, this holiday was a bit like going to Weston Super Mare during a heat wave

Advice: Alcudia is very commercialised and has basically lost all it's spanish identity.

Activities: None!

" jolly holiday "

Me my hubbie and my 2 year old son, just come back from alcudia, hotel isn't as bad as some reviews, staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are ok ish, clean, but looks a bit grubby in places, could do with a bit of updating, we were s/catering, they have micro, but no elec kettle, just one to go on cooker, it takes 4ever, so take a travel one if i were you. No air con, but luckily it was cool in our room, and it was only may after all...Kids pool ok, very cold and very slippery, we kept going across the road to Viva sunrise hotel, pool ab fab over there plus they had a play area.
Best place to eat was at the top of the strip over the little bridge by canal, it is called TIVOLI TERRACE, it has a playarea for kids too, it was stunning, we only found it on our last day :-(
worst place LORA (something or other) i can't remember, sorry it's a steak house, looks very posh and nice, but crap basically, very oily and had a tang to everything.
Great place to take kids in the evening, the peach pit, round the corner from hotel, fab entertainment for kids, also cheers was good too.
Beach is very nice, place itself lovely, we would go back, but if you haven't booked yet, i personaly would go for viva sunrise.

Advice: yes

" Fantastic "

Me my wife and 2 year old son have just come back after 2 weeks at Sol De Alcudia, read some pretty dodgy reviews about the place so was a bit worried about it. I don't understand why people complain about some things though, "the pool area was wet" (the pool contains water!!) & "it was pretty noisy" sorry people you and thousands of others are on HOLIDAY if you want to be in bed my 10pm try Margate. Anyway back to the apartments, ours was basic, spotlessly clean (and cleaned every other day) and overlooking the pool (great view!!).Frank the entertainer seemed to work 10 hour days, never heard him complain or swear at the kids (some of which were downright obnoxious) everyone was helpful especially Abby our rep who always had time for everyone and seemed to be around virtially every time we went past her desk. The only complaints I had related to the resort itself, just try and find a Spanish bar or restaurant, it's English or Chinese everywhere, all pretty good but you can get that at home. Ola's was disappointing and pretty expensive, Bugs Bunny's great value if you have kids and want a "British day". The beach is incredible and the port area as well, try a day out in Pollensa, far more laidback and a bit more Spanish with some nice restaurants and a good market. Don't believe the negative things about the apartments, though if you do want to do some washiong you have to go to the hotel down the road, but since the complex doesn't claim to have any facilities how can people moan about it??? Read the brochure or look online these days it's so easy to find exactly what you want and if you want a cheap cheerful friendly base then you can't go far wrong staying here.

Advice: Very british, head for the port or Pollensa if you want to feel you

Activities: The Port and Pollensa

" just returned from a weeks holiday... "

just returned from a weeks holiday with a party of 18 people, aged 50 down to baby aged 3 months, the sol alcudia apts are situated in a central area of alcudia, 5 mins walk from the wonderful white sandy beach, but if you are given a room on the main road/reception side of the hotel, be warned you will need ear plugs to sleep as cheers bar on the opposite corner plays loud music till around 5 in the morning, 2 couples in our party were at logger heads with the noise and did not get a proper nights sleep in the whole week we were there, if you are in any other part of the complex you will be fine,we were on a side road and didnt have any problems with noise.

the pool: has its own lifeguard who is brilliant and watches the children like a hawk (in a good way) small kids are required to wear arm bands as standard, you can get them in any of the shops for around 2 euros, inflatables for the kids ars brilliant prices at all the shops,( 9 euro for a 2 kid boat) the only down side to the pool area is the toilets, the floors are lethal, so if you have small children, plse go to the toilets with them,as several under 5,s came close to getting a nasty fall onto the ceramic tiled floor,

complex staff: are all very, very helpful, the maids all had a cheery hello for evereyone, the bar girls seem to give the impression of being down in the dumps, but when you chat to them they are fine, reception sorted any problems very quick, be warned that the complex shop is expensive, other shops out n about are much cheaper.

if you go s/c you must try lunars restaraunt, super fast service, brilliant foot, not to expensive, and a playground to keep the kids happy while they wait for their dinner
try their steak pizza and kebabs brilliant, other places to eat would be bugs bunnys,in the side turning off the strip, there is also a english chippy at the side of the river, half way down the strip,

overall we had a brilliant week, would recomend this complex (minus cheers bar) to anyone,

WARNING, if you go to the hydro (water) park, they will charge you 4 euro for each sun lounger you need, and take armbands for small children,as they wont be allowed in the water without them, guess what they sell them for 5 euros a go, also take your own food, as what they sell is expensive and to be kind to the food its real CRAP, we brought it and threw it away, it was awful.

" When i arrived at The Sol De alcudia,... "

When i arrived at The Sol De alcudia, with my husband and 21yr old daughter, we were met by maria the receptionist, who told us there was no way a studio would suit our needs, as i am disabled and use an electric wheelchair, a studio would be 2 small 4 us.we did not actually book a studio we asked 4 a 1 bed apartment 4 this reason. Thomson booked this without telling us first..Maria was more than helpful and was surprised this mistake was made. After a few fonecalls and 2 nd a half hrs later we were allowed to upgrade at a cost of 400 euro's which we should get back from thomsons. The rep Stewart was also v.good and wrote a report 4 us..We were also told this was a disabled friendly hotel, it isn't: the ramps r too steep and the lift is too small as are the apartment doors and i found the bathroom a struggle, could not get wheelchair in bathroom and had to be lifted into the bath....When we were finally settled we decided to make the best of our 11 night hols. The hotel itself is very friendly, and we met some very nice people, it is a very family orientated hotel, frankie the entertainer was great wiv the young children, and wiv the adults: The pool was ok, (a struggle if ur disabled, they could have proper steps to get in pool 4 us) and the food was good: the apartments are quite spacious did have a microwave and fridge etc but, no air con was a bit like a sauna at night, and a fan would cost 20 euro's, per week, i thought that was a bit expensive but we had to get one we could have bought one cheaper. the hotel was very clean though and all the staff were very friendly and helpful..We did book the all inclusive drinks at £7 per person per day, which was a good deal, as both alcoholic and soft drinks were quite expensive even water...We did end up having a good hol (though was a bind getting up steep ramp and into lift) I also met another disabled person who had the same problems as myself and more...Alcudia itself is beautiful, especially the beach, and don't miss a visit to the port, there is a lot to do and plenty of bars and resturants, to choose from visit the bellvue there is lots going on there..The Sol De Alcudia is very basic, but very clean and friendly, i would return, if they made it more disabled friendly (as we were also told there were ground floor apartments..there aren't) and installed air con...overall (apart from a disastrous start and some discomfort because of my disability's) we had a pleasant stay at this hotel and enjoyed Alcudia.....

" me my friend and our 4 kids (12,12,7... "

me my friend and our 4 kids (12,12,7 and 3months) stayed for 2 weeks.....the hotel room was clean and spacious we had an apartment which faced the front of woody woodpeckers....the only bad thing about that is the smell of the river in can turn ur stomach esp at nite....the rooms get really hot there is no air con which does make it hard to sleep at night....

the hotel room was cleaned every 2 days and also clean towles every 2 days

as for the entertainment frankie g i would not reccomend it we found him boreing avensive and did not entertain at all it was like he couldnt b bothered. in the afternoons around the pool he would ask the children to play killer pool not once did he come up to any of my children and ask them. in the nicest way i would say that he was aload of [--] and that was the worst bit of the holiday.

so we found that the best entertainment was across the rd viva sunrise not only was the shows entertaining the reps were brill they got everyone up and inclueded in the games and danceing and made us laugh alll the time.

we also found ourselevs going to the viva sunrise pool as well it has an exellent kids area and pool wiv little slides football and bouncy castle.

the other two pools that are there are good there is a deeper pool and a shallow pool. even tho there was nothing wrong wiv the sol de alcudia swimming pool it was clean and we always got a sun beds around the pool.

woodywood peckers is a gd place to eat the staff dave i think his name is and another boy both frm london were really nice and was very friendly to the kids they also liked them...billy bunters does gd food and the price is decent....the chinesse buffet on the main rd is exellent i reccomend to eat there and def worth the money jus b carefull tho the drinks r a bit more costly....the man on the bridge who makes fresh pancakes is a diamond the kids loved the pancakes and him. if u want a takeaway there is a fish and chip shop jus by the irish pub that it quite nice.... we didnt eat in the restraunt hotel as we found it cheaper to go outside and eat also the shop on the corner on the way to the beach sell ice creams for half the price that the hotel sells them at i surgest u go there to get them!

also cheers is good for food and entertainment the kids enjoyed themselfs...

if u r goin on day trips def go and watch the pirate show its for all ages and it got 10 out of 10 frm all of us.

the western park is also a gd day out lots of water slides and live shows like sea lions u also get a chance to swim and have pics taken with them!

" I am in sol alcudia center now after... "

I am in sol alcudia center now after 2 weeks and thought that i would warn you for what you are getting into. The rooms that are apartments are lovely and spacious and cleaned regularly. But we found lots pf giant beetles or cockroaches in the room.Admitadly they did give us spray which kept them away and killed them. The entertainment for kids is rubbish.many people complained when mini disco was on the ONE rep that had to do everything said 'sorry no mini disco not enough kids and he played music off his Ipod. They have the same acts every week so we went either to Cheers bar over tyhe road which was brilliant for adult and kids entertainment and to the BELLVUE HOTEL which had brilliant entertainment. The pools were not to good either. One was 1.55 meters and was too deep for children and the other was 0.65 meters so was okay for toddlers. There was always a life guard on duty which was good and sometimes there was water pollo in the older pool for adults.Mini club for the children had no attendant and they were left to sit in a room with crayons and playdough. We went halfboard and on the sencond week we were appaled. My little sister ate nothing as flys were over the food. One couple complained to the cook and he said its not flys its mosquito's and he still expected us to eat it.then he dipped his bare hands into the food and pulled something out and sneezed all over the plates which people had to eat off.so we complained to our holiday rep and we got 180 euros back for 1 week of not half board.I may seem fussy but i am 14 years old and even i was appalled. The beach is loveky and the water is shallow and clear. There are also lots of shops and bars. We stayed at the front of the hotel in room 224.nearly every morning we were woke by a leaf blower that was really loud. Then at night you could sometimes hear noise from cheers bar.

There is a race for the beds by the pool and sometimes when you put your towel on one to reserve it the life guards take them off as no one is sitting there. never come to this part of alcudia if you have children to be entertained at night. The bellvue was best for this and it wasnt to long away.i also had a hello kitty chain stollen out of my room. it was on the side table and when we went in we noticed it had vanished after the maid had been in.We didnt report it as we couldnt prove it, even though they were the only ones to enter the room.I was upset over that.

alcudia is verry comercialised.cheers bar was good for entertainment and food.Sol alcudia was rubbish for both. I feel sorry for you if you have booked this hotel and you have older children and younger.many children fell over on the floor by the pool which was soaking with o drain to drain away water.I would never come back here to this hotel. The port was good with more shops but the hotle would never be recomended by me!

" Just returned from a week holiday at... "

Just returned from a week holiday at these apartments with my partner and 8 yr old son and i have to say that before going i was a little bit put off by some of the reviews that i had read. Yes these apartments are very basic but what do you expect from a 2 star hotel. I had a studio room which i found quite comfortable for the three of us to stay in. There is a kettle in the studio rooms which you have to boil on the cooker ring and unless you put it to the right setting then it will take for ever to boil. Our room was over looking the pool which was very nice as you also had views of the esparanza lake which is close by.
The apartments are very clean as is the whole hotel and they are more than happy to help you especially Maria who works at reception. Frankie the entertainer is really good with the children and he gets everyone including the adults up to have some fun in the pool which was really nice to see.
The food at the poolside was nice and i did not find that to expensive either, i can not comment on the resturant as we never ate there as we were always going out for dinner and i can recommend the chinese resturant and woodywood peckers which was right next to the apartments and also tavolis which is oppisite the bellvue enterance.
The evening entertainment was good also but as we have good friends that run the venencia bar on the main stripe we never got to see much of the entertainment.
We went on a few excursions and i can recommend no frills as they were really good and explain everything about the place while on your travels. We went to aqualand areneal but i prefered aqualand in maguluf and also Inca market, please beware here as my other half got pick pocketed but he caught them red handed.
All in all we had a really enjoyable holiday and a very nice stay at sol de alcudia apartments so if you are going to these then please don't take any notice of some of the reviews as they are not at all bad, some people expect to much.
