Hotel le Notre Dame Reviews

9 / 10
Dec 2008, hagan1

We booked this hotel because of the cost as we wanted an inexpensive get away to Paris. The hotel was in a great location close to metro stop. This made most of Paris just a short hop on the tube away for us. There are lots of nice little restuarants and cafes nearby, and... more

Most Excellent!
My partner and I stayed at Hotel Le Notre Dame 2/24/10 for four nights. I was initially hesitant to book here due to some of the pretty bad reviews on this site. BUT, the hotel has recently been renovated (as of Jan 2010) and is under new management and I was thoroughly pleased with the physical facilities/decor, the service and overall value. Simone was fantastic and provided superior service. We received a wonderful room on the 4th floor (#42) overlooking the Seine AND Notre Dame. The view was spectacular. The room decor was modern and very interesting (Christian Lacroix design). And, although the hotel is located in a very busy area in the Latin Quarter, there were no noise issues at all as the double paned windows (3 sets of them in this corner room) effectively provided quiet. A lovely area with charming tables and chair sets is just off the registration area. We had coffee and took in the views there a couple of mornings before starting our day. Cocktails are served at all hours in the same area, so you're never far from a place to sit & relax after a long day of sightseeing. The rooms are on the smaller side by U.S. standards but typical for Paris and perfectly acceptable. The televisions are flat panel and WiFi service is free throughout the hotel. The bathrooms are nicely decorated in a mixture of warm charcoal shaded tiles and glass shower (no shower door or curtain which is also characteristic of most Paris hotels). The only complaint I have about the bathroom is that there is no place to put soap, shampoos, etc. in the shower itself. Had to use the floor of the shower. Also, no washcloths (somewhat typical of Paris...it's hit or miss, depending on the hotel), but the bath towels and hand towels were high quality. Overall, I'd give it an 8 out of 10...great location, very good accomodations, excellent service and can't be beaten views. Highly recommend.
Excellent Hotel, Excellent location, Exellent Staff
This hotel is in the perfect location. Take the Paris by Train to St Michel. One stop, exit Metro Exit 2 and you are 200 meters from the hotel. It is directly on the Seine, diagonal from the Notre Dame in a lively part of town. Staff is very friendly and very helpful with area information beyond the ability of my French. They were very helpful in English. Rooms are small to be expected, but the renovation of this old hotel is very cool. Great decor, great wallpaper, large bathrooms with big showers. There is a great cafe on the street level and the salon for breakfast is nice, and has afterhours cocktails. It is around the corner from Rue de la Huchette, one of my favorite streets ever for food, fun and drink. My daughter is at the Sorbonne so it is an excellent location to rendezvous with her. I will go back. Chris M, Modesto Ca.
Loved Le Notre Dame
Le Notre Dame is at the heart of Paris, the location is just perfect. Make sure you get a room with Seine and Notre Dame view. It is magnificent! Close to St. Michel in the Latin District were you will find lots restaurants and nightclubs. Julie in the front desk is very nice, and the best: habla español!!!
Great hotel as location and comfort
I stayed with my wife 4 nights, 22.01 / 26.01.2010, in a room with Notre Dame view and Sena view. We didn't need anything else. I am sure that there are not hotels in Paris with such views. it is perfect for a romantic holiday. Just remind that the hotel is renovated in 2009 ( on January 15th 2010 they ended the renovation ). I recommend it for couples looking for romance.
Just papering over the cracks!
Just got back from 3 nights in Paris one night at Le petit Paris (review elsewhere 5 star !!!) and because they were full I had 2 nights at the relaunched Christian Lacroix Notre Dame Hotel The location is absolutely superb literally 20 seconds to the main line B metro and looking on to Notre Dame The hotel has recently been given a "face lift" it is a Lacroix riot of colour but the public areas are completely souless with the main lounge come reception and breakfast area winning the prize for the worst room with the best view The rooms are better thought out and comfortable enough though I felt that I just didn't want to spend any time here at all -beware not all rooms have a shower mine had a bath -not all that handy when you just want a quick splash and dash The staff manage the bare minimum fine in a big corporate hotel but in a small boutique hotel-they really need to engage more All in All I would not return to this hotel 200 euros per night and after paying slightly less at Petit Paris,This hotel was just not in the same league .
Perfect
Our stay was perfect. The location was amazing; a stones throw from Notre Dame. The room was nice, clean, and had an amazing view. I would not hesitate to go back and would recommend it to anyone travelling to Paris.
Very Nice Hotel
We decided on this hotel in Paris for location and view. We were not disappointed on either count. In any other location, the rate would be considered excessive, but at this hotel, you pay for location and view. In my opinion, the value was there. Hotel employees are quite pleasant. The service is right on for a three star hotel. Some guests would be concerned about the noise, being in a very busy location, but if the windows are closed, there is no noise. The hotel itself was quiet, a very peaceful and pleasant place to stay in the heart of this beautiful city. The bathrooms are quite nice, modern, with good fixtures. For those who care, the wi-fi works best in the hotel lobby. We were on the next floor up and the signal was a little weak. We had breakfast at the hotel only once. It was presented on a lovely tray, nicely done, but a good breakfast is available in so many close by places, that gets a traveler off to a good start. As others have mentioned, the hotel is entered up a flight of stairs that would be difficult for some, especially with luggage. Shortly after we made our reservations, I communicated with the hotel and asked about any available discounts, and was told none were available. A few days later, we received another e-mail from the hotel, offering a 10% discount, which was very much appreciated. We had booked directly, so the discount may have been what would have been available through any number of booking services, but they did not have to give it to us, so we very much appreciate that. For a prime tourist experience, this hotel is a very good choice.
Great location, beaucoup charm, very romantic.
Our room was on the fourth floor, down half a flight, back up half a flight, then up a spiral staircase into a small tower facing the courtyard. Sounds like a pain but it was actually very romantic and charming! The ceiling was vaulted with exposed beams and the whole nine yards. It felt very French. Great bathroom with marble floor, tub and shower but no shower curtain! We had to hold the shower nozzle for each other. Made for fun mornings! There was a mini-fridge and the plumbing was totally modern. The breakfast service was fantastic, with great bread & pastries, delicious coffee and the hot chocolate made my wife's heart melt! Location was absolutely perfect. 5 minute walk to Notre Dame, 2 minute walk to pastry shop and Metro. On Saturday the 5th Arrondissement has its farmers market just around the corner. Unbelievable! We would go back!
Ideally situated
Very small hotel but ideally situated with breathtaking views (ask for river front room). Like most European boutique hotels, the rooms are very small by American standards. Fitting your suitcases in the hotel elevator is a challenge, and hallways are narrow and cramped. The room was ordinary but for the spectacular view of the cathedral. If you want a peaceful night's sleep, this is not the hotel for you because it's situated in the heart of one of the most heavily visited areas of the city. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast was not worth it, though. Croissants were stale and the hot chocolate was an instant mix.
Just a great place to stay!
Just came back from vacation to Paris. Hotel le Notre Dame is cozy and immaculate. It's location is terrific: close to Notre Dame, Louvre, and much more. The staff, especially Juliet, is so friendly and helpful. It can be very noisy at night in the rooms facing the street, but with windows closed, it's quiet and peaceful. Great restaurants and shops are just around the corner. Metro is close, so it's easy to get to everything. I would certainly stay there again.
